One mans trash is another mans new bedside gun

The 3rd generation S&Ws are great guns. They are really overlooked for what they are. My favorite 3rd generation is the 4006 in 40 S&W. I also like the 539 in the second generation. It is just an all steel model 39. They are very nice firearms and will last a lifetime.

5906 was second pistol bought few years ago very comfortable to shoot .Really like the weight but wouldnt want to carry it all day. I have used it for bedside gun but now have M&P 9 and shotgun nearby

I enjoy quality arms that are out of fashion or cosmetically challenged. And thus darned cheap for the functionality. I could use a few more.

I liked the Model 469 and 669; the shorter grip frame was better suited to my smaller size hand. The DA trigger was okay but had a bit of over travel to it. Single action was fine. Was never a fan of the slide mounted safety. The guns themselves were very reliable and durable and along with decent accuracy made for a solid combination with S&W's all metal autos.

Congrats on the find! I do like the 6904 I have and a 5906 would be a nice companion to it.

I was really getting excited when DA/SA pistols were falling out of favor for the reason's OP mentioned.

But now they are gaining popularity.

I blame CZ and their involvement in USPSA, 3gun, IDPA, etc.

I always wanted a 1076 with the hammer drop instead of manual safety. (FBI model)
Had one chance to get one, but like so many other nice things, didn't have the cash available at the time.:(

Pics will come soon. I'm embarrassed to say this...but I shattered the grip when I went to strip the gun apart. Those factory grips are some brittle b@stards! All was not lost cause I had a pair of Hogue grips in the mail already. Can't wait until a range trip!

I’ve never really forgiven S&W for discontinuing the 3rd Gen product line, in favor of the cheaper to produce, and therefore more profitable M&P product line.

I'm still looking for a nice 5906. I've got 7 different third gen smiths in 9, 40, and 45. All of them will feed empty beer cans if you can get them into the magazine, and will shoot any ammo i feed them. They've all been 100% reliable. Congrats on a nice shooter.

picked up a s&w 5906 for next to nothing the other day. Polymer frames be damned, I love this boat anchor!

I love reaping the benefits of other people’s gun preferences.
"boat anchor".really ?.
I carried one as a duty weapon for a few years and LOVED it,one of the most accurate and reliable tools I ever owned.
Would bet my life on that one I owned any day !.
Lucky you.

A very happy and proud owner of police trade 5906 bobbed hammer and a 6906. I'm still looking for 3913 Lady Smith.

I just bought a 6906 and have owned my 5906 for about 7 years. I used to own a 4506, a 4586, a 4006 TSW, another 5906 that shot fine, but wasn't cosmetically good at all, and a very rough 6906 that I got for $100 due to it looked like it was totally messed up. It shot fine, but I wanted a nice one and finally got it.

potmetal

Way to go with your Model 915! That's a great price for all that you got with it!

Personally S&W could have stopped with the 2nd generation.
