I do not agree with open carry in most public places because I feel it makes me the first target for some deranged idiot but I am not about to suggest that you shouldn't if that's what you want to do.
I'll simply try to stop the idiot before he kills you if I can.

I think you replied to the wrong post/thread.

The banner of the New York Times has always been "All the news that is fit to print." The operative word in that phrase is "fit." We all know the types of news they find "fit" to print and what they do not. This is simply part and parcel of what the NYT has always been.

What evidence do you have that we are winning the fight for gun rights in the courts?
The FACT that increasing number of conservative pro gun/2A judges and justices have been appointed to various federal district, circuit courts and the SCOTUS - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_federal_judges_appointed_by_Donald_Trump

And if/when Trump gets re-elected in 2020, he will continue to appoint more conservative pro gun/2A judges and justices.

Since most judges serve for life and generally don't change their ruling pattern, we are likely to win future cases presented to federal district/circuit courts and the Supreme Court.

And BTW, you ARE NOW voting for Trump in 2020 to secure the future of our gun rights/2A? Right? If not, you are wasting our time on our war against the antis. Time to fish or cut bait. So join us "deplorables" and vote for Trump in 2020 to win our judicial fight against the antis.

Also, that there are a lot of cases that are in the process of overturning bad legislation, and a lot that have already succeeded. The problem is, as hard as it is to get any legislation to pass, it is even harder to reverse it, as it would require those in power to admit that the system made a mistake. There is a lot of media hype on what the anti's WANT, but they are actually getting very little accomplished.

I would imagine few of those that signed know anything about guns and gun laws already on the books.
On the contrary. Many of those signed are already longtime antis and the fact that they signed the letter will mean little to law makers - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...g-action-on-gun-control.856155/#post-11231125

BUT this will fuel the dismay of gun owners and their increasing fervor to boycott companies/CEOs and bring the issue front and center for 2020 presidential election and future elections.

I think these CEOs may actually be HELPING our cause. ;)

Ah, I see now. Thanks for the clarification, makes even more sense now.

It was interesting to learn from the Times article that Uber disallows carry by their drivers and passengers.

Who knew? Hundreds of rides carrying and I was In a gun free zone! Now that we all know, I am sure all Uber customers will comply. :D

The spokesman for the CEOs on the news this morning said:
1. They endorse universal background checks and red flag laws.
2. His phone calls and emails have been overwhelmingly congratulatory with many other CEOs asking to add their names to the letter.

Time for another cup of coffee and to make a list of company boards to write to and add to my anti gun/2A company boycott list (I won't waste my time writing to already known ant gun/2A companies on the boycott list)
OK, I went over the list and I am happy to report that I already boycott many listed companies and do not shop at/use other listed companies - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...g-action-on-gun-control.856155/#post-11231125

I already tried Beyond Meat and I did not like it. I recently tried Impossible Whopper and while I did not mind it, will no longer buy it due to being on the "list".

And I can always book future cruises with competitors of Royal Caribbean Cruises.

I think most gun owners will find not supporting the list of CEOs/companies fairly easy to do.

His phone calls and emails have been overwhelmingly congratulatory with many other CEOs asking to add their names to the letter.
And I will be happy to add their names to my boycott list too.

Believe me, there are many more CEOs/companies not listed in the letter that I will continue to support/do business with.

Bring it.

These CEO's are just rolling the dice. I truly believe that the majority of Americans understand that UBC's and RF laws are not going to save a single life.

Criminals, being criminals, will look at this legislation and laugh.

Again, look to the Founders of 1791 and see the Truth.

I’m glad Beyond Meat is on there, I can use that as an excuse to say no if I am ever offered one of their plant based hamburgers...

I didn’t see any shockers some are noticeably absent though.

So I read the list of CEOs and wannabees.
Pretty much a grouping of the usual suspects, leading companies that are looking at a failure rate of 90% to 95% over the next five years.
These folks are thinking that they are the future... .
Yep, never heard of most of these. Dont (knowingly) use their products and will actively try not to in the future.

The one that raised my eyebrow was JJ Abrams, though Im hardly surprised. As if I needed another reason to hate him after he ruined Star Trek.:cuss:

More like CEOs that signed are already financially independent/well off and could handle any backlash/termination when company/corporate profits take hits from gun owners' boycott (And believe me, they have been proven effective against many companies/corporations) and CEOs that didn't sign are still working on their financial independence and can't afford to get fired. ;)

And I wonder what will speak louder to Congress?

145 CEOs signing canned letter (That's 145 votes) or thousands of voters sending emails/letters/calls to Congress?

145 vs thousands of votes ...

Yup, politicians live and work to get re-elected.

Follow the money what is more apt to swing a vote. Money, special interests or some JQ public complain about their Constitutional rights?

I've said for years that guns are inherently not a right-left issue. We need to decouple gun rights from conservatism in general. This is where the NRA is making a huge mistake. By making itself an arm of the Republican party, it gives political cover for everyone who is not a Republican to oppose guns.

As a practical matter, how do we get around this trap? Many conservative Democrats insist they'll vote against any restrictive gun legislation. A few years ago a Democrat in my district dressed his children up in camouflage in one of his ads to prove to us he was conservative. He lost three to one. Yet, this same Democrat supported Obama and Hillary and would support left wing appointments to the Supreme Court, which is a bigger issue than whether they side with Republicans on gun legislation that's dead out of the gates.

I like Democrats. I eat at the same table with Democrats, many of them are outstanding chefs. I like to date liberal women. It's just that I have a hard time voting for their political candidates.

I agree. The Second Amendment shouldn't be a Democratic/Republican divide. But how?

I might start when a political candidate knocks on my door by restraining myself from asking "Boy, can you whistle Dixie?" But it's hard.

More teenagers are killed each year, via traffic accidents, than have been killed, due to school shootings, over the last 10 years, combined, per the NTSB.
Where are these liberal weenies screaming to get the driving age up to 21, "to save lives"?
How about all the deaths caused by smoking cigarettes, but that is legal and endorsed.
How about all the deaths caused by excessive alchol use, which is legal and promoted?
This idiots are all about their political agendas, not what is a constitutionally protected right.

Not impressed at all, about 20% are CEO's at companies with 500 plus people. The rest are smaller than 500 people (could be 2 for all I know) and I'm not sure I heard of any of them. Really another nothing news "story" to me.

Uber and Lyft constantly in the news for mistreating their employees or employees attacking/raping riders so I think they should focus more on THEIR business rather than mine.

Why do I care what they want or think in the end? Why is this "news"?

Hmmm, I don't think any of those are in my investment portfolio and most of them I've never heard of so... o_O
"Whatever". ;)

On election night 2020, what will be in the minds of the voters - what these CEO's signed or matters much closer to voters' hearts/lives?

I KNOW what will be in the minds of gun owner voters. ;) What these CEOs signed will be the last thing on their minds. :D

And I BET law makers know that too. (And we have over a year to go to piss more voters off.)

Believe me, these social justice warrior CEOs are HELPING our cause.

From reports, it is apparently less than healthy to eat such 'fake meat' as it is both high in both fat and calories. I suspect that sooner or later, cloned meat that was never from a living animal might the better long term investment.

If you've read the list, a lot of these are "hip" internet darlings and startups involving service and software industries, some are high finance, and relatively few are retailers (the Gap and Dicks for example) and few are manufacturers. The retailers apart from Dicks which turned recently nasty due to their CEO and the fading Gap franchise, and manufacturers, aside from Levi Strauss which has been anti-gun for a very long time, seem to be sitting this one out and probably because they face mass markets that could significantly turn on them.

Venture funds, investment funds, etc. are not something that the average person interacts with nor most of these app makers or software companies who sell to corporations or wealthy individuals, not the average folk. For them, it is cheap advertising that these companies have the "proper wokeness" as to the current zeitgeist.

In part, like immigration, sexual practices, religion, art, etc., firearms have become involved as a topic in the culture wars which are primarily driven by the elites in society who wish to distinguish themselves from the average person as superior. One issue that democratic republics have is that elites in this country have to make up their own distinguishing marks as who is elite and who is not unlike recognition by the monarch through various honors or being a hereditary member of the aristocracy. Thus, they use public positions on current issues as a way to separate themselves and endless awards galas etc. Whether or not these policies work is besides the point, it is the thoughts that count. They would rather be wrong on policy than being marked of having "bad thoughts" and those seeking to rise up through the ranks via ambitions dare not voice the improper attitude.

For the most part, this is a list of companies that probably does not want nor desire the average gun owner's business and view it is a selling point to their market of corporate drones or leftist tech lords to hold such attitudes. End consumers probably make up little of their business or their product is "free" such as apps like Pintrest where they sell your information to others. Dicks simply wants to exit the hunting business and firearm business altogether because I suspect that Stack's ego won't let him admit he made a mistake in his earlier actions. The Levi Strauss originating family has been anti-gun for a long time as mentioned above.

I agree. The Second Amendment shouldn't be a Democratic/Republican divide. But how?
That's the problem. The left in the Democrat party started making it a major wedge issue in the 1960s. That was one of the major causes of them losing their support in the South and they ran with the idea. Honestly, I'm not sure if there are any more Conservative Democrats. They certainly aren't on the national stage, and they've largely died out around here. (The downside to that is that many of them here left their shattered party and came and joined the Republican party. Thy didn't leave their ideas behind...) As long as the DNC is antigun, and has that plank in their platform, they are the antigun party, and anyone who belongs to it is giving them cover to push that agenda.

If "common sense" had anything to do with violence involving firearms, we would have no such things as "gun free zones" and concealed carry would be nothing more or less than a basic human right in all 50 states. I read the list of the CEO's and happily discovered I have not given any of those businesses a dime of my money except for one. I intend to send a message to that one, though would not expect any positive impact from it.

The best letters to congresscritters and the white house are the ones you send your congresscritters and the president as a voting American. Just think of the impact if 10 or 20 or 30 million gun owners would begin to send letters demanding that "gun control" laws are already too many and too ineffective and we don't need any more. Sometimes maybe we are our own worst enemy because we pee and moan on the gun boards, but do not rattle the cages of our congresscritters often. It's a stamp, an envelope, a piece of paper or an e-mail. A couple of minutes out of your life to protect your rights and the rights of your children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

PS: As for the chairman of airbnb and his signature...Danny Glover who is a supporter of the dictatorship in Venezuala and other socialist nightmare countries at worst or a deluded modern liberal as best is an advisor to the board of directors.
