Hi,
A few years ago I had a Glock 34 Gen 3. I really liked the gun but wanted an S&W model 60 Pro more. I no longer used the G34 in competition so I sold it.

I have kicked myself ever since!

Anyway, I have decided to buy another one. I live in California now (no groaning, please) and all that is available to me are Gen 3 Glocks. I own a G19X and a G45 so I am familiar with Gen 5 guns.

My question is, other than finger grooves in the Gen 3 and the backstraps and the MOS option are there an real differences in the Gen 4s and 5s versus the Gen 3s?

Thank you

Gen5 = traditional lands and grooves, ambi slide stop, beveled front of slide, flared magwell
Gen3 = polygonal rifling

Gen5 = traditional lands and grooves,
The Gen 5 barrel is different than the earlier Gen's, but I don't think it has "traditional lands and grooves".

The Gen 4 and Gen 5 have smaller grips than the earlier Gen's, think of them as "SF" models (remember the G21SF and G20SF). If you have smaller hands the Gen 4 and Gen 5 are better options.

The Gen 5 goes back to the "two pin" rather than the "three pin" that began with the Gen 3.

Inside, well other than the recoil spring, the Gen 3 and Gen 4 are pretty close. The Gen 5 has a whole new inside, though if you have a 19X and a G45 you already know that.

I have several Glocks gen 1-4. When one is in my hand and I am actually firing it, I can't tell the difference. I can tell if I have one with a good trigger, though.

I have both a gen3 34 and gen4. I prefer the gen3 as the trigger can be made a lot better than later versions

I have the APEX Enhanced Trigger on my Gen3 17, and I’m putting the same trigger on my Gen3 19. I like this trigger a lot better than the stock setup, but I like the stock trigger on my 19X.

The Gen5 barrels (left barrel in picture) may not be exactly “traditional lands and grooves” but they are a lot closer to that then the polygonal rifling Gen3 barrels (right barrel in picture).
