Beto doesn't have a chance. But I feel sure he's enjoying the spotlight and that could help him run against Cruz in the next election (he would think).

He's dead in the polls and knows it, this is just an attempt to make himself relevant and it's really unlikely to work. He's also killed any chance at a senate seat because you can't win a statewide race in Texas with that on your record.

Biden or Warren is a foregone conclusion at this point, and I'd put my money on the latter making it to the general if I had to bet.

But he sure is going to fire up Trump's base and increase the push for any gun owner to vote for Trump.

All this fervor on gun ban/confiscation is also overshadowing any meaningful talk/coverage by the presidential candidates on the "issues" which is only going to help Trump.

• NRA has not been the only voice as president has heard from a wide range of conservative allies that his re-election chances will be in jeopardy if he makes a deal with Democrats on guns. (Thanks Ivanka for getting the "information" from law makers! )

• Earlier this month NRA chief said he “opposes any legislation that unfairly infringes upon the rights of law-abiding citizens.” Willes K. Lee, the second vice president of the NRA board and a key ally of NRA chief went further, tweeting recently that “Nothing short of disarming America satisfies @Democrats. Give them NOTHING.”

• This year, the House passed its first two significant gun control measures in a quarter century. One of the bills would require background checks at gun shows and on internet sites, where private buyers and sellers can arrange to meet in person to complete a sale. A second bill would increase the waiting period if a potential buyer does not immediately pass a background check. These measures have stalled in the Republican-controlled Senate. So have the so-called red flag laws.

It would be a very bad time for one of these quacks to win the White House. Bad for them. The country is going great. But these idiots are creating civil unrest among gun owners. Gun owners, left or right, are not the people you want to be pissed off at you.

It would have been much better (for them) had they just continued to chip away instead of jumping the gun (pun intended) and blatantly admitting what we’ve known forever. But Robert Francis isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed. But he is definitely a tool.

At least he had the fortitude to layout his plan on the table, more than I can say for any other politician.

Others would (1) say we need “common sense” back ground checks and want to include person to person sales, to stop “loopholes”.

Once they get that, they will say (2) that’s not good enough because “how do we know if people are still selling without back ground checks?” So now they need the personal inventory of every gun owner, that’s just “common sense”, otherwise you could still sell them and no one would know.

Yeah, you guessed it the next step is to come and get them, the kicker is at step 2 they caught you in a trap. If you say you sold it, you are a criminal and if they find something you didn’t declare in #1 you are also a criminal.

In the immortal words of Nancy Reagan, just say no.
