NJ Magazine backfires as not a single one has been turned in

Because "We the People" can sue the states for unconstitutional state laws in violation of the Second Amendment and get them overturned. ;)

Relying on five wise(?) people seems like a heck of risk and poor planning.

Personally I think gun owners and Conservatives should organize and overthrow the Government. Once they are back in power pass strong 2A laws.

But alas organizing and getting out to vote is to much work for many.

Much better than having 5 anti gun rights/2A justices had Hillary been elected in 2016. :D

So how did Trump win in 2016? ;)

Anyways, enough of thread hijack.

Getting back to OP of "NJ Magazine backfires as not a single one has been turned in" and same thing that happened with 2015 Los Angeles city ban with no magazine turned in, to me, these show the sentiment of gun owners.

IMHO, It's just a matter of time until they make us all criminals, you just have a choice: bump stocks, magazines or hoild out for AWB bans and semi-auto bans.
Contact your Congress critters.
Donate to your 2A organizations.
Vote for your RKBA in 2019, 2020 and beyond.
This is rather hard to do when you're saddled with a pair of "donkeys" like "Tricky Dicky" Durbin and Tammy Duckworth(less) for senators.

Yep, you might as well have a sign in your front yard. "Please come in and inspect my arsenal of restricted weapons and components".:(
AGREED !!

The more we evolve into an "Irish Democracy", the more creative folks are going to get. Not to mention that once things get really bad, "in for a penny, in for a pound" is going to become more and more common.

If you can get hard time for a "normal capacity" magazine, or an AR, or an AK, then why not build a few fully automatic weapons, cut down shotgun barrels, or turn solvent traps into suppressors without paying the tax? This wholesale infringement of rights is going to bring about some very nasty unintended consequences.

It was found in several countries that when criminals turned to home manufactured guns (not pieces of crap zip guns), the easiest to make were fully auto 9mm. Semi-auto guns are harder. Google illegally produced SMGs.

That being said - it does the law abiding no good that this can be done.

By overthrowing the Government I mean through the ballot box.

It may be that gun rights are lost in N.J. and California. Then again maybe not. Civil rights in the 1960’s was achieved by folks linking arms together and marching peacefully against police using tear gas, dogs and clubs. India won it’s independence through non-violent protests. Try to imagine hundreds of everyday men, women pushing baby strollers and their children marching to polling stations to cast their vote.

Like I said I fail to see what is gained by hiding magazines.

BSA1: we know what You meant, but for some of the other people out there , "...overthrowing the govt....." might one day mean losing one's guns in certain states, depending on new Red Flag language.

State authorities would look for the leaders of a "movement", to send the correct signal in the future.
Cut off the head. This is exactly how Russia does it.

Donate to your 2A organizations.
After the NRA finishes cleaning house.
There are many pro gun rights/2A organizations you can donate to but consider this.

There are legal battles that are actively being fought right now by multiple pro gun/2A organizations. For each case win, it involves tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees - https://crpa.org/news/litigation/crpa-september-2019-court-report/

I understand why some may share your sentiment about NRA management but the active legal battles continue daily requiring legal fees. The antis have declared an all out war on our gun rights/2A and to win this war, we must focus on the objectives of sufficiently funding the legal fight and voting in pro gun rights/2A law makers and presidents.

If you really cannot donate to the NRA, then donate to many other pro gun/2A organizations engaged in active legal battles.

If you have problems with the NRA please go and donate or volunteer to another organization.

I have donated to the NRA this year, and sent numerous letters to my Congress critters what have YOU done ?

On many occasions, I've told invincibly ignorant proponents of racially invidious gun controls that modern submachine guns are so trivially easy to make that they're IMPOSSIBLE to stop the production of... at least without the creation of a Luddite police state that would make the Khmer Rouge cringe... to which they replied that they would institute government controls on the ownership of machine tools, comparable to those currently governing automatic weapons.

When the penalty for owning an AR15 is the same as that for owning an MG42, why not own the MG42?

and that would also include digital printers I presume.

I've had them tell me that they would ban gun BOOKS.

But I've known they were totalitarian sociopaths since AT LEAST the mid '80s. They come from the same vein of totalitarianism as Andrea Dworkin and Catherine McKinnon. They don't assert their right to speak. They DEMAND that they speak... WITHOUT CONTRADICTION. They know they can't silence ALL opposition without an absolute monopoly on the means of armed force.

Deanimator:
Ask them whether they would have a bonfire and throw all gun books into the flames as done in Hitler's Germany. I hope you will say "..Hitler's Germany...". Are these personal acquaintances or coworkers?

My wife attended Sweetbriar College while her father served with the Army Quartermasters on a one-year tour on a base in Vietnam, around '69 or '70.
She had the nerve to contradict one of her professors when he preached about our presence in S.E. Asia etc. Luckily (for her) only one of her professors did this.

They were "activist" types in usenet years ago. Everything you're seeing now I saw 15-20 years ago. Needless to say, "Nobody wants to take your guns" was a lie from day one.[/QUOTE]

I fail to understand why hiding “high capacity” magazines that are illegal is a good thing. The authorities have won when gun owners cannot use their magazines in public such as at shooting range and it is necessary to hide them so someone does not see them and inform the Police.
I would like you to consider the possibility that, there is a good collection of NJ firearms owners who did NOT destroy their by-legislative-fiat illegal magazines, did not remove them from the state's borders, and continue to use them at facilities around the state. As of this date I have yet to hear about a single range questioning someone about the size of the magazines in their possession, or demanding inspection of the same. There are logical/financial reasons for this being so.
State game areas would be a different story, as you need a hunting license to use them, and game police have arrest powers, but then we do not possess many (any?) game ranges that allow larger than .22LR on the "rifle" ranges, and shotguns on the clay ranges.

New Jersey's mag ban may pale in comparison to what awaits us here in Virginia, after the elections that are coming up in about a month and a half. The governor and his antigun minions have already given us a preview.

My only option would appear to be to move my magazines, belts, links, etc. out of state. My fear is that I might miss a few offending magazines, since they are so ubiquitous. I even have stick and drum magazines for dummy Thompsons. Those too would have to be exiled from the state.

Then I would have to buy a bunch of replacement 10-round magazines in order to have operable guns. I don't need this kind of hassle at my age.

I would again caution about announcing disobeying the law. If you suggest that banned items are used at range and you are a felon, it takes little effort for you and the locale to be a test case. A zealous believer in the bans can .... Think about it.

It's more interesting to be thinking (and discussing) about complying with the law, but in imaginative and unexpected ways. This may affect New Jersey today, but it will affect the rest of the country tomorrow.

The pro-gun side has historically been very good at workarounds. No sooner do the antigunners devise a scheme, than the pro-gun side figures out a way to get around it.

the fact that people can no longer use their standard capacity magazines without the risk of going to jail is a win for those on the other side.

Agreed !!

There have been PDFs out there for several years showing how you can make small SMGs using either .32 or .380 cal. ammo. You just have to have decent metal working skills as they do require some drilling and grinding for the bolt and firing pin. The body is mainly sheet metal and just needs bending and welding skills.

The final iterations of the Ingram SMG didn't even use forgings or castings in the bolt. Instead, the bolt was a stamping filled with molten lead during manufacture. The lead provided inertia mass.

There is literally NO way to stop people from making inexpensive SMGs without literally treating machine tools, sheet metal breaks and 3d printers the way actual machine guns are treated now.

Gun control might or might not actually produce a general uprising. The measures needed to actually implement it effectively certainly would.
