If it’s in a position to injure, or cause injury to a human then it meets a quick end. My girls (both under 10) recently found a very fat snake under a piece of plywood, and decided to poke it with a stick and make it angry, I wasn’t able to get there quick enough. I don’t know what kind of snake it was, but when it was angry it came at them and my youngest tripped and bloodied her nose. Their fault for angering the snake, but it caused injury to a human. It met a shovel. This is why they die immediately if they are a risk. If they stay in the woods then they can eat the mice and squirrels til their little bellies pop.

Part of the area that I hunt have these Rattle snakes protected. If you just want to kill snakes, I ask you please do so in your backyard, but kindly stay out of my neck woods and others who do appreciate all of Mother Nature. I have ran across them on occasion and NEVER a problem and I sure as hell did not kill them. And for those that actually want to take the time to learn something rather than kill, below is a interesting PDF.

Unless one owns said woods, it is hardly your place to tell others to stay out of them. Imagine if some anti hunting activist told you to stay out of public woods because you thought it was okay to harvest a deer, then even had the audacity to claim the woods as "theirs".

I don't feel like my last article was articulated well enough. Most VENOMOUS snakes on property die, I deal with two of the Texas 4 here (western diamond back and Coral) the Rattlers being pit vipers I kill or as I said before my new friend Maggie does, a Coral snake is much more docile, I generally like to box them up and release them elsewhere I have had corals in my hand before with no bites. When a rattler is killed there is NO solid projectile that is used, a .38 caliber shot shell will work or a shovel. Out while hunting and fishing I try to give them leeway if myself and the family are camping or spending increased time out there then I will assess the situation as I see fit. If the snake is away from us and slithering off then I will leave him be. If he's too close to others them I will regretfully do what I think is right.

Just changed to MY NECK of the woods and if you read the post, It said "Please". So do not put words into my mouth get off the taking this to a different level. And wake up! I am hardly a ANTI hunting activist.
And as far as the word, MY, I feel I do have a duty to obey the laws of nature and the laws of the Commonwealth to protect what I love. And you can bet, if you do come down and kill a Canebreak, I will report you to the game warden. And then if you want to call me a Anti hunter, or some kind of activist then please go ahead. Hopefully they would take away your So called Right to hunt or kill.
And you are the last person I hope to see in OUR woods.

even a group of "folks that love nature" do not have the authority to tell anyone else to stay off of public land because of differentiating views on rattlesnake problems. Granted where law prohibits, everyone must follow the law. Where I live, it is not illegal to dispatch copperheads, they are not protected, so no one would have the right to tell me to "stay out of their neck of the woods" unless they owned this neck. I'm not sure why you think "your right" is more right than what others seem fitting, but going so far as to tell others to "stay out of your neck of the woods" as a personal statement or a collective one among your "folks that love nature", is not okay. It's honestly a bit obtrusive and is nothing more than virtue signaling, much like what the left likes to do on social issues.

Of for God sake man get off of it. What are you doing, spending time to cherry pick each word and start a argument because you disagree? Yes, I DO hope you stay out of my neck of the woods. First, I'd say that I actually don't disagree, I actually said in my first comment on here, that if they were in the woods, I have no desire to kill them. You literally said in post 52, "stay out of my neck of the woods", thats far from "hoping you stay out of my neck of the woods". One is a command, one is a wish. I also agree'd that if it is against the law, then everyone should follow the law. YOU are not the law, YOU do not have a right to tell someone else to do anything beyond what the law states in regards to public "neck of the woods". I can't help it that you took what you thought was this morally grand standing "I am sparticus" type stance on this issue and get butt hurt when someone tells you that you are outside of your authority. You can go back to your virtue signaling now if you wish, it seems you do not do well with those that differ from your every opinion.

No, not really. But if it can do harm to me, my family, my livestock, or my crops, it will meet a swift end at my hands. Make NO mistake, I love nature, and I love to be out in the woods amongst God's creation. There are many times that I've walked by a turtle on a log and never given it a second thought, or stood and watched a possum or coon playing in the creek. Shooting them never crossed my mind, even though the turtles are a bait-robbing nuisance while I'm fishing, and we all know what coons and possums can do to a chicken house. And yes, I've let snakes crawl off if they're a decent distance away, or swimming across a pond or slough. But if that sucker is within rifle barrel distance to me, he'll die. I have a fear of snakes that very few can fathom. I don't want them anywhere around me, period. And, I don't want to feel threatened on my own farm, or in my own woods. What others do in their woods and fields is their own affair of course, so long as it doesn't negatively affect me. If you enjoy snakes, and want to handle them or observe them, then that is your affair, as I said. Whereas if I want to shoot them on my farm, that is mine. I'm sorry if that is offensive to you, honestly I am. Everyone has a right to their opinions, and while I disagree with yours, I don't dislike you for them. That's the way it should be.
