Early Teal and Wood Duck Season

Teal is my favorite duck to dine on. Sounds like a nice morning with your dog.

Oh man. Tony's makes everything taste better. Did the dog at least get some scrap meat?

Well I hunted 1st 8 days of LA teal season in Cameron Parish in fresh marsh, my daily Teal totals were 5,6,0,3,0,0,0 1. for a total15 blue wings in 8 hunts. the teal migration is evidently delayed!! Ill try the last 5 days of the 16 day season but things are not looking good in the 3 different blinds that I hunted. After 4 scratch hunts I have a severe case of duck less depression!! the only known cure is to find ducks and killem. LOL

if you haven't figured it out I am a diehard duck hunter.

Those are tough days for sure. I remember days like that, sitting in the blind thinking "I'd be more productive at the house raking leaves than sitting here staring at an empty sky." I hope the end of your season brings you skies that go dark with ducks.

Sadly, you're not alone. I remember one particularly warm winter day when it hit me. I had been stalking deer all morning and had nothing to show for it. They just weren't findable that day. The sun was getting high and warm, and I'd stripped off all my outer layers and had them dangling from my pack. I had just stalked up to a long green clover field where I can usually slip up on something, but it too was devoid of life. I remember turning to walk up the edge of the field and back toward the barn where I could sit and wait for the afternoon hunt to start. I walked in the manner I typically do when it's just a grind of a hike with no other purpose, my mind was disengaged and I was just focusing on a spot on the ground in front of my feet. As I marched along, I couldn't help but notice the crunch of the leaves with every step. It was winter, so all the leaves had fallen and I had to trudge through them to get where I was going. They were shin deep in places, and were giant leaves, bigger than both my hands put together. That was the moment it hit me: "I need to go home and rake leaves today."

I hate it when reality intrudes on my relaxation time.

Not to derail your thread, but would ya'll mind disclosure of your favorite duck gun?
My battered old 2¾" 12ga 1100 is my do-all.
Sometimes I borrow sons 3½" 870 express for geese.

I sure would love to find a nice 3" sxs to hunt with.

I use one shotgun for everything: a Remington 870 Express Magnum,12 gauge. It's OK if the gun gets muddy, or wet, and if ice freezes the bolt shut I can fix the issue with brute force. I have some other shotguns, but they're too nice to bring to a muddy, wet, duck pit.

Tip for you Teal hunters: the mojo dove works great on teal.(About $30 at Academy) I like it cuz when you take the wings off they fit in my shell bucket along with the body. I usually use 2 mojo doves on extended poles about 3-4 above the water. I put some old mojo blue wing teal wings on one of my Mojo Doves!! LOL

The mallard and other mojos are very large and awkward to tote around in the boat so the dove mojos work better for me.

By the way I use a 12ga Beretta A300 with 2 3/4 inch 1.25oz of #6 steel in mod or imp cyl choke for my teal hunting.
