Springfield's Hellcat carry pistol

Spent some time looking at this gun and the pics and size. One thing I really like is the grip.. I think Springfield heard some of the gripes about grip on the 365, in that some folks thought the receiver to grip distance was too narrow and would ride the slide. Myself included when I was able to tryout the gun along with a few others that tested the gun. I also like the way they did the serrations and the TOP serration.
Check out how they allowed plenty of room for the offhand to haven ice real estate for any size hand, really like the Dimple for placement of the thumb. That will IMO be a big bonus. And if round count is your thing, the this gun is the winner.
I would prefer a DAO but have to say this gun is getting me interested more each time I see it. I predict it will be a Huge Success.

Without an external safety. I don't see many revolvers with external safeties or flipper triggers, they seem to be working acceptably well.

If you're going to keep the trigger pull at the same weight as it would be without it, DAO for instance or DA/SA then I find the flipper unnecessary. If you're using it to to make a long heavy trigger pull shorter and lighter then I find that more dangerous as it may be harder to notice if / when it gets hung up on a piece of clothing or the holster or an obstacle stuck in the holster.

In addition, the flippers I have seen seem to be comparatively flimsy compared to the rest of the gun (the externals anyways).

Interesting, and thank you for the detailed response.

So you believe the 365 is a long DAO type trigger? Because the one I had felt about the same travel as my flipper equipped Glocks and felt lighter upon break.

It was in the category with the PPQ where I felt it was maybe getting towards too light without a thumb safety (or grip safety), still fine but getting towards that edge of my comfort level.

In regards to flippers? I dont mind them, might be useful as a safety, probably won't, don't bother my fingers and have never given me an issue in terms of breakage and reliability.

Hinged triggers, on the other hand (M&P, FN 509) I hate just for feel reasons.

I will be very interested to see what the price point comes out to be. That will be the make or break moment for it.

Seems like the P365 owners aren't to thrilled or positive about the new release, and I'm not just talking about on this forum . Guess the others don't like smaller guns. The silver lining is that it's great that we all have options, and that there's a new option on the market for those who aren't interested in the P365 and for those who want smaller pistol w/o having to really sacrifice on capacity...

That's some good reasoning. I like having the flipper there personally because I've never noticed them at all while actually shooting, and it's just a little extra safety that doesn't get in the way, but I can see why someone wouldn't like them. To each their own.
My experience mimics your own. I have pistols with and w/o them. It's pretty much passive, and I don't notice a difference. Never had one break on me either, but anything is possible.

Some people can't remove their egos from what they own. It's unfortunate for them because they get booty hurt when the next biggest and best thing comes along, and unfortunate for us that we have to listen to the bitching. Brand loyalty is one thing. Childish fanboyism is gross.

Personally, I want every single law abiding citizen to carry a higher capacity gun than me, so they can cover me while I deploy my own pee shooter that suits me fine, but isn't necessarily the max capacity, tacticool……..whatever.

I'm actually fairly interested. I carry an XDs and a P938 Legion, and this fits right in that same size class. After a parts failure last year, I realized the benefit of having multiple small carry guns.

Personally I really like HK guns, and I wish they'd figure out a way to debulk their guns and be a little more competitive in the small gun market. I really like my P30SK, but this holds more ammo and is smaller.

Looks like a nice gun but in nearly video I have seen shooters have an issue with the slide not locking back on the last shot. Common problem with these small guns.

Interesting. I like to pocket carry so I'm a big fan of these micro nines an 380s. Started with an AMT Backup .40 quite a few years ago. Terrible gun BTW. Today I have a Kahr CM9 along with a Sig P365. I actually prefer the Kahr over the Sig. Fewer rounds but just a little bit smaller. I'm waiting for Kahr to come up with their own version of a higher capacity CM9. Thin out the grip panels and go from there. Not sure what they've been waiting for since they've been in this category for about 15 years now.

I also love the Kahr. Personally I hope they do not jump on the band wagon to try and squeeze more rounds into such a nice gun. They got it right. No need to fix something that is not broke. I just am not into the high round count thing. I think the Springfield will be a great gun, a great seller but it does not mean a great gun for me. I believe Kahr marches to a different drummer. Look at the Kahr. Only 15oz in weight.Nice, neat package and great shooter. While triggers are subjective, there are many fans of the Kahr trigger. Kahr did not cave with this and buy into the light striker fired fad that seems to have taken over. A smooth, deliberate DAO no safety. Even the staunch ardent lovers of safeties love this gun. IMO the best of both worlds.
Weight matters. Size matters.

The more the merrier. I see no issue with Kahr continuing their current line while bring more options to the market... Theirs a market for smaller guns with higher capacity. Kahr would do themselves a disservice by not taking notice IMHO.

The CM9 is 15.9 and the P365 is 17.8... You're able to get 4 more rounds in the P365 for not a really noticable weight or size difference.

Not knocking the CM9 at all. I EDC a MK9 a (about same the size as the CM9 but heavier) and would not switch to a P365 even if someone gave me one for free. Then again I don't pocket carry, weight doesn't bother me, and I prefer metal frames pistols....

Well, one thing for certain. There are plenty of super nice Micro 9mm's out there to fill anyone's preference.

Who established the dimensions for what a micro-9 should be?

Now we have gun marketers trying to horn their bigger guns and magazines into a niche category by calling them something they're not.

I have tried multiple times to make the Kahr trigger work for me. I think it’s less to do with the type of pull but more to do with how far back the break is.

I’d love to have a cm9 with a lc9s trigger, and accepted Glock (any larger manufacturer with better aftermarket support) sights. That would be an amazing pocket 9.

So far I’ve yet to find the balance of shootable and pocketable in the 9mm for me. I’m stuck to a lcp II, which I shoot considerably better than the cm9, and a j frame for pocket carry.

MSRP does not necessarily indicate what you will pay for an item.
Uh, yeah, I get that ... I've bought a handgun or two retail.

Where are you seeing that in this forum? Not seeing this, even on the SIG-centric forums.

Speaking as an owner of multiple versions of the P-365, I don't feel particularly threatened about competition. My ego is not defined by the tools I own and favor. No need for anyone to try and inject any controversy into a thread about a new product.

Don't know if my opinion counts for anything though as I'm somewhat of a Springfield Armory fanboy. I'm all for productive advancements in the field of pistol manufacturing and will give anything a try ...

Lol, You and I are on the opposite ends of the spectrum my friend. I love the Kahr trigger, but stopped carrying the LC9s because I felt the trigger was too light. It had broken in to around 4lbs of pull. I love the Kahr CW380 trigger and the LCP Gen 2 trigger, but would not carry the LCPll.
One thing I have always said, is that triggers are subjective. What works for someone, may not work for the other. That said, the more I shot a DAO the more I started to like them, the more I just did not want to go back. But shoot what works best for you. All is good. Just go with the flow.

MSRP $599. So no, not really. I got my last 365 for $488 out the door.

MSRP does not necessarily indicate what you will pay for an item.

The MSRP for the Springfield Armory 3.3" .45 XDS Mod.2 with Fiber Optic front sight is $568.

I recently bought one, NIB (Cabelas), that featured the upgraded Tritium front sight for ... $372.97 OTD ($350+$21tax+$2BC). ;)

Uh, yeah, I get that ... I've bought a handgun or two retail.

Yeah, I figured as much, but your post to which I responded suggested that you had temporarily forgotten that very important aspect of properly-played MSRP vs OTD Cost. :)
