I see the hipsters in downtown St. Petersburg, arts district...for the most part I only get as far as Clearwater to go to Bill Jackson's https://www.billjacksons.com/
Now there's a place that blows Dick's and even Bass Pro out of the water. Not in breadth of selection, but in quality of product and personnel. The folks they have working there for the most part are very knowledgeable of the products in their department, and what they have for sale there is what you need. Not the low price leader, but good quality stuff. Probably why they've been around since the 40's. Hope to keep them around a while longer. I think they even accept AMEX now:D
 
Why is Breitbart reporting on this now?

Well it's reporting on an interview that Ed Stack, the owner of Dick's, gave to CBS this Sunday, Oct the 6th. He explains that they pulled all ARs from the shelves of their stores in 2012 and pulled all guns from their stores after the 2018 shooting in Parkland, Fl. Stack says that after he learned that they had sold the Parkland shooter a shotgun he was going to stop selling guns and destroy the ARs even though the shooter did not use the shot gun he bought from Dick's.They then destroyed the ARs and there are pics of that in the interview. Says they lost over a 1/4 of a billion dollars due to their actions. Worth watching the brief interview.

Since I live near Austin and work in Austin perhaps my level of hipster knowledge is higher than yours? I do have several recipes I could discuss here but this isn't a cooking forum. One thing I will say is that I hear some gun owners complain that they couldn't pull off a hipster beard but I found a quality roll of gorilla tape really makes quick work of it.

You can generally only write off losses to the extent you have profits to write them off against for the most part and since they are losing money, I doubt they can get any tax benefit from destroying product like this.

The distributors have no incentive to take the rifles back. They can't sell them. In any case, what's another $5 million when you already lost $250 million.
 
I have a dicks two minutes from my house. So I drive 20 minutes to academy. Purchase all my ammo from them. Same thing for Walmart five minutes away. So I drive ten minutes to Kroger. A few extra miles isn't going to break me. if enough people will drive a few extra maybe it will break them! Last thinking I bought from dicks was a Carhartt jacket for my wife. Didn't have a tag. So I got it for $25.00.
 
Dicks is bad, but where I live we have worst. People destroying our Monuments, our Heritage, and butchering history in the school systems. Dicks where I live is alway dead. Let them dig their own grave. They want to play politics over doing business is a joke. Akin to McDonalds protesting beef to make some stupid political statement. (Greasy Fries would still be served).

He's implying "all those guns" would be used in criminal activity on the street and he's protecting the public. Shows his disdain for his own customer base who can pass background checks in order to purchase firearms. Also implies those who buy those firearms to hunt with are a threat to society. Probably indoctrinated at an Ivy League school and has little understanding of why people buy firearms.
 
Years ago when they were building a new shopping center near us on I-25 I noticed that a large building that had a big "DICK'S" sign facing the Interstate. When a local morning radio host was doing a segment on the center I called and asked him about the sign. Having never heard of them I asked "What do they sell?" He chastised me later for embarrassing him on the air. Little did I know that the sign was referring to the management of the store........

Unfortunately, not much. Stock price has had only a slight upward trend overall for the past couple of years. Its return on equity is high and debt to equity ratio is low(ish). Folks who buy stocks just look at numbers and emotions don’t factor into the equation. Dick’s is rated as a buy by most analysts and the stock is expected to do well.

As above. They’re unfortunately doing ok and have exceeded anticipated earnings per share each of the past four quarters. They had over $2.25 billion in revenue last quarter and are one of the few retailers in their market that are expanding, with 8 new openings scheduled for this month.

That’s what it was but more I think. I think they would have ultimately gotten out of the firearms business more or less and the big gun control push was just an easy out for them. They’re reshaping their brand. New stores being put up next to golf courses and higher income areas where kids play a lot of soccer and year-round baseball. Smart (business-wise), but sleazy they way they s**t on a large portion of the customer base that built them up.
 
I live in central NJ and I can't recall Dicks ever selling AR type rifles. Not the place to go to for gun type stuff anyway. They sold mostly shotguns and hunting rifles. Last time I tried to buy one there was at least 10-15 years ago. I looked at a bolt action Remington I believe it was, and told the salesman ok I will take one. He seemed put out by the upcoming paperwork but brings one out of the stock room. Like all the guns at Dicks it has a trigger lock on it. I asked for it to be removed to check the trigger, safety and action before completing the sale. Salesman went into a rant about Dicks policy of not taking the lock of the gun until you are out the door. Said something about "maybe I have a bullet in my pocket and will proceed to rob the store". I told him how crazy this policy was and who buys a gun without checking it out? Once you are out the door that gun is yours even if it has problems. I told him to forget the whole thing and left there never to go back. I don't need sweatsuits and headbands.

Dick's has ABSOLUTELY the worst customer service I've ever seen. I'm currently reading the book "Every Day Stalinism", and their disdain for the customer is THAT extreme.

How do you boycott somebody who can't be bothered to sell you anything in the first place?
 
Just because they are doing good now doesn't mean they will do well in the future.

Kmart has been lingering on for years, but the one in my town is closing in December.

Sports Authority lingered on for years but they all closed in the past year or two.

All these stores turned away from their base to chase a magical better clientele. They did ok until the next shiny store opened the better clientele moved on and their base never forgot or came back
 
I would like to view the ROI model they used to spit out that cash flow decision - the assumptions have to be all dandies.
 
True or not...doesn't matter. Anything that would make them close their doors sooner is okay by me...let the real gun shops pick up the slack.
 
I worked for Dicks as a Store manager about 10 years ago , As the store Manager I had an FFl and we counted all firearms twice a day . I worked for them about three years and worked in three different states and helped at many different locations none of which sold pistols or ar type rifles by policy of Ed Stack . I do not know of any store that has ever carried them or sold them . So where did all these guns suddenly appear from ? I call BS on them evem having any AR s

First new pistol I ever bought was from them a few years back. A Taurus snub-nosed 38. But this was a lonnggg time ago.
