SCCY CPX 2 - Anyone have this?

Does anyone have the Sccy CPX 2 that can comment on it? They are available for $149 right now, so thought “what the heck,” but not if they are junk. This would not be a primary use gun, just another to add to collection.
 
I think that it is basically a Kel-Tec. IIRC, one or more Kel-Tec employees left to form their own company: SCCY.

I owned a Kel-Tec... I think it was called a P11? It had a stiff trigger but it went bang every time and cost very little.
 
Santa brought one for Mrs Thunkit (Ida is her name:)).

The weapon is well sized, she likes it as a range gun.

The trigger is long, but after a few hundred rounds it's smoothing out. It's accurate for a pocket 9, easy to disassemble and clean.

At $150 I think it's a good purchase. If you want a pocket 9 you could do worse.
 
A discount Kel-tec. High praise indeed. Often I’ve looked at my POS... er, PF-9 and thought, you know what would be great? If this thing were even crappier.

LOL I actually have zero experience with SCCY and for that price would be tempted for something to fill the slot of disposable pocket 9 in my lineup. It could hardly be more terrible than the one I have...
 
My wife wanted (& got) one as her first carry gun. She wanted one with a safety. I know, right? It was a mediocre pistol with a great warranty. At first the trigger disconnect, trigger bar something failed & the company paid for parts, labor & shipping both ways, if I remember. After a while she rubbed a raw spot on her thumb where it rubbed on the safety shroud, & the pistol became less likable. SCCY was kind enough to trade it outright for the model without the safety. No questions asked. We had to pay for shipping this time, though.

I don't recall it being a horrible gun, but it was quite close. It went bang, most of the time.
 
My friend owns one. I discouraged their purchase and suggested they just spend the small premium for an M&P Shield or anything similar. They persisted because of the lower price. I have personally witnessed it failing to feed or eject more than a hundred times on steel cased wolf 9mm, and not always easy to clear. It functions ~90% on brass wwb or similar. Heavy recoil for size and not a great, although usable, dao trigger. Accuracy is fine when it works. Feeding is a huge issue even with fmj. I've read that the mags are to blame and the owner tells me that one mag is much better than the other, but buying one to save less than a hundo over a proven gun was a stupid idea. It's not enjoyable to shoot and I would never trust my life to it. Afaik they have never contacted the factory for service.
 
My son bought one a while back and he is actually using it as his EDC. I know at first, SCCY got a bad rep, but they have come a long way in such a short time. My son's CPX-2 has had zero issues and has about 1000 rnds through it now. Well, he did have one issue with a mag and SCCY sent him two for free. I know he has bought (3) 200 count boxes of federal aluminum cased ammo, 2 boxes Monarch steel cased ammo, 2 boxes of blazer brass and 2 boxes of his carry ammo, prolly some more I don't know about. All of that ammo has ran without issues and all is pretty accurate out to 15 yrds. Once you get use to the trigger pull, this pistol shoot very good and accurate. I was "this close" to buying me one, but found the Taurus G2C at a better price, which is also a great shooter. All in all, it is a reliable shooter.
 
Wife and I weren't a fan of the CPX-1 she tried. Same model you are looking at but with a thumb safety added. Know quite a few people that do like theirs, just wasn't the case for either of us. For the record, I didn't care for it because it wasn't as accurate as I wanted it to be. She hated it because the magazine pinched her hand when firing.

If the G2C isn't too large for the OP's needs, they are good pistols. I have a G2C and a Glock 26. After I shot them side-by-side I preferred the Glock, but just barely. The Taurus is a better design and better executed than the Kel-Tec 9mm that I owned.

I know of a local CCW instructor who will not allow them to be used in class because the number of malfunctions slows down the class too much. It is the only gun he has banned from his classes.
 
I purchased one of the SCCY CPX-2 for $149 last month. I thought it was a nice looking gun and liked the idea of the semi-internal hammer (all shots are double action). First shooting experience was not great. Shot 100 rounds of Remington 115gr ball ammo and although it fed and fired, the brass goes somewhere different every shot, about one round out of 10 hit me in the eye-pro. That can be very distracting once you realize it is going to happen again. Shot about 5 inches higher than point of aim at ~ 15 yards. The recoil seems higher than all my other 9mm pistols, but this is a light gun.

I've cleaned the CPX-2 thoroughly and going to try again today with hand loaded HP to see how that runs.

Shot 100 115gr HP handloads out of the SCCY CPX-2 at lunch today. Only had 2 of the dreaded brass to the eye-pro events, so that was an improvement. Did have 2 failure to feed and 4 times where I had to to press the slide home ever so slightly. I was better with the long double action trigger today and was a bit more accurate, still below average for me on accuracy at 15 yards.

I have to say this is NOT a soft shooting gun! Tried some one-handed shots and laughed out loud at how much my hand jumped.

I fired my carry gun, Glock 27, immediately after and the 40S&W kicked about the same as that CPX-2 in 9mm. The SCCY is NOT a girls gun to be sure. Don't be fooled by the colors.

My experience with the CPX-2 was better than the first time shooting it so I'll give it another chance next week. I really want this gun to be viable even if only as a range toy. I would not consider this gun as a carry gun.
 
You will get your $150 worth.:)

The other Kel Tec spin of was DiamondBack, Taurus bought them up.

Use the money towards something else if you don't need a budget gun.
 
I purchased 2 several yrs back for my wife and daughter, along with some friends we shot 500+ rnds (everyone brought 100+ rnds) we had brass, aluminum, steel and reloads, one person shot continously while everyone else reloaded mags, we had 2 failures 1 he said he limp wristed the other just jammed. My friend has sent his in for feed problems with hollow points and they sent it back with extra mags and stickers.
My wife and daughter prefer it to the G2C, they said the long trigger on the G2C was the biggest complaint.
149$ is a good price for the SCCY

Diamondback has no connection to Kel-Tec, aside from being a half-mile or
so down the street. They've been an airboat builder for about twenty years,
and just entered the firearms design/mfr arena a few years back.

Makes ya wonder if the DB guy rubbed elbows with George Kellgren at
a few chamber afterhours, and thought "I can do that, too."

If Mec-gar made the mags for SCCY, like the ones that came with mine, they should be ashamed ;) But seriously, there's no way they made those mags. I have a couple hundred rounds through my CPX-2, and while it has never failed, I don't carry it. The insides are not encouraging of trust, and I have much better made pistols for that. These days for a few dollars more you're getting hundreds of thousands and in some cases millions of satisfied customers behind you with the better choices today.

I've had one for a couple years, only problem was recoil spring crushed itself, they sent a new one, it did same thing. I found a site that sells uncaptured springs, no more problems, I have shot the crap out of it sense replacing the spring, no problems what so ever, actually, I carry it almost every day, have it on my side right now at work.

Hmm, that’s good to know. I have reliable guns in my line up, but thought would it hurt to through an extra in the truck or go bag..., but maybe not.
