I know either the store in Wesley Chapel, FL or Tampa (Citrus Park) had them in 2011. Only reason I know that for sure is that I bought my Mossberg 500 from there and looked at one of the ARs they had there at that time, forget the brand they had back then.

They had them here YEARS ago. They had 2, and they were dramatically overpriced. The staff was rude and the place had a generally unfriendly atmosphere. Fast forward to the Field and Stream store they opened here where they had everything, and the staff was great, still a little high.

In this age of "woke" capitalism, I'll give you 50\50 odds that they destroyed them.

I dont doubt it my experience was in Tennessee , Alabama and Kentucky , When i worked for them they carried different things in different areas up here the closest thing we carried was the remington rifle cannot remember the model that was all metal and fired 223 it was a cammo nightmare

What you said makes sense about the feild and stream stores I forgot that Dicks owned them , When I worked for them the only thing that mattered was clothes and golf they ignored pretty much everything else . The butt that runs the company Ed Stack nephew of the founder was a huge golf nut so we had a useless postion Golf Pro that sucked up payroll and played on the putting green all day setting up lessons that he got paid 100% of , insane the shareholders finnaly forced them to pull the postion.

They live up to there name.

Pretty old news. Dicks get some media attention from the liberal press in exchange for a reported $5 million worth of "assault rifles". I would be willing to be that's full retail.

The important news is the the Supreme Court is going to take the NY gun case to render a decision.

I don't believe it. If it is true, it doesn't matter- there are plenty of these guns available elsewhere, and at reasonable prices. So if it is true, its just helping that sorry business go under.

"Woke" capitalism is a strange one. More concerned with Twitter than the real world.

The Sixers basketball team threw out a fan for yelling "Free Hong Kong" recently, so free speech and the constitution is not a priority for woke capitalism

This made me think of something.

Just for the heck of it let’s do a little math.
They claimed to have destroyed 5,000,000 dollars worth of “assault rifles” let’s stay they were $800 each. That’s 6,250 guns, divided by 610 stores, equates to about 10 guns per store.


I’ve never been in a Dicks, so I have no idea what they stocked in the way of guns.

Its about as oxymoronical as one can get.

Do firearms distributors/wholesalers even take back unsold rifles from retailers?
I am curious about that point. (One year I got good deals at Walmart on a CVA Bobcat at the end of BP season and in another year markdown on a CBC 7022 when that model was discontinued; they marked them down til they were sold; they didn't send them back.)

Plus with Dick's was not $5 million in AR rifles; it was $5 million in AR rifles and accessories.
To a company that had a $250 million loss, $5 million is 2 cents of a dollar lost.

It just dawned on me...perhaps someone else mentioned this, I did not read every post in this...at Dicks’ prices wouldn’t this be more like $2.5 Million?

If you're bleeding to death, what's one more gash?

I suspect that they might think the free publicity with a certain class of customer is worth $5 million of AR guns and related merchandise.

Here's JMHO.....

The rifles were Dick's property, so they certainly can do whatever they want with them. Kinda the basic mindset here in the- U. S. of A. Do I wish they would've rather sold them to me for a penny on the dollar? Why sure, looks like everyone here does. But that did not and was not gonna happen. Whether for a publicity stunt or just corporate sentiment, again, makes no difference to me. Maybe the guns were worth more as a tax write off than what they were worth for wholesale value. What they did took no guns outta my hands, not did it create a shortage of AR type rifles and accessories, nor did it increase the price on remaining pieces in other stores that still happily offer them, nor make them more difficult for me or others to get them. So in reality, no reason for me to get my undies in wad over. I as a legal and responsible gun owner, want to use and do with my firearms as I wish, as long as it's legal, as I would suspect most others here desire also. So why waste the time and energy to bash someone else who wants the same thing.

Are there folks out there who are applauding Dick's for this? Odds are yes and odds are just as many as those who are actively criticizing them for it. ARs and what are considered assault type weapons are a emotional and argumentative subject. This thread certainly is a flagrant example. Dicks in all reality is a moot point to me. Last time I shopped there was a coupla years ago when I bought my grand-daughter some soccer shin pads. The gun industry and market around me is healthy and I have plenty of other places to shop for guns and their accessories. Where I spend my monies will certainly speak louder than anything I post here.
