92FS vs FNX-9

If it's mostly for range use, I'd go Beretta by a large margin. I always liked shooting the M9/92 style guns. There's also the 92F clones from Turkey by Girsan as well.

I'm just not a fan of the FN guns thin meltable plastic and hyper aggressive texture. I always felt the triggers were mediocre as well, especially considering the price.

And to be that guy... I would suggest checking out a CZ75 or Jericho... In polymer or steel. Or maybe splurge and get an HK p30

Likewise I would probably go with the Beretta 92 though I would greatly prefer something like the 92X Centurion with the straight back strap. Better ergonomics for my smaller size hand. Also it's a bit lighter and shorter than the full size model.

I also would go 92. I am familiar the FNX style guns for awhile and they never grew on me. The remind me a bit of the old Sig P250 modular series that I never really liked either.

Beretta 92s have good magazine availability as well as enough aftermarket support to have a little more fun with them if you choose.

I also like the Centurions a bit better

I've had both. I would go with the 92 as a range gun. The only thing I liked more on the fnx was the cocked and locked option.

Plus, you can buy about 4 milsurp 92 mags for one FN mag.

I would go with the Beretta 92 or the Taurus PT92/99.

Heavier is useful in a range gun. Lighter is useful in a carry gun.

If I were going to be "that guy" I would opt for a CZ75 or clone thereof.

For range use the Beretta. I have a Brigadier model with a decocker only, and it’s a great shooter.

Had an FNP-45 and have handled an FNX-9. As JeeperCreeper mentioned, I greatly prefer the HK P30 in a polymer 9mm. My FN was traded for an HK45.

While I'm sure this isn't representative of all or even most FNX pistols, you can't have an FNX thread without this video...

Let me state first that I have a 92FS and a 92A1, and they are great pistols.

That said, I would look very carefully at the FNX 9. Mine draws a lot faster than the 92s, for one thing.

For what you want to use it for I say definitely the Beretta 92FS. There are a ton of parts for it including the inexpensive D spring and a trigger upgrade in a bag upgrade available from Langdon I believe.

It's made the rounds. The video is from 2015.

For all I know that was a single bad gun, or they've fixed the problem in the ensuing years, but it's worth watching since it is fascinating.

M92- easy decision.

I own both. I like the 92fs and sometimes I carry a 92fs compact.

I like the FNX-9, It's accurate and never had a malfunction. My wife is a south paw an the ambidextrous controls make this an excellent
"house gun" for me.

You will do well with either, but, I would pick a 92fs.

I totally want an FNX9.
I have no hankering for a beretta. just my bias in the location of the safeties, and the way they point for me

92FS for me, all the reasons above along with great aftermarket support and lots of low price magazines out there for it.

IMO, go with the one that points well for you.
At the FFL, just point it without aiming; then move your head to see where it hits to check how well it points for you.
Again IMO only, not all pistols point well for me, YMMV.

While it's always good to see internet lore arise from the dead to cast aspersions on makers other than Taurus, Kimber, Colt or SIG, the "melted FNX magwell" (it was an FNX 45) was debunked a long time ago.

FWIW, I have an FNX-45, while bulky and possessed of a long trigger pull, is 100% reliable and a veritable tack-driver. I'd not be averse to the FNX-9 if looking for a lightweight, full-size 9mm with this very nice operating system (DA/SA, frame-mounted de-cocker/safety and cocked'n'locked capability).

If you are into customizing your sights, the 92 is not very friendly. You might need to get a different version of the 92 if you want custom sights.

My number one complaint I have with my Beretta 92 INOX is the sights. The front site on my Beretta is milled into the slide and can't be easily / inexpensively changed. The front sight wasn't a problem when I bought the Beretta 25+ years ago... my eyes were a lot younger and I had no experience with nice target sights. Now that I have a couple really nice 1911's with target sights and my eyes are aging the front sight on the Beretta is really detracting from it ease of shooting and how much I shoot it... I will probably never sell it though.

Does the 92FS have a milled front sight or is it attached by a screw?

For a range gun I really prefer the single action trigger of the 1911's. There is a night to day difference between the smithed 1911 triggers and the very good for a double action trigger on my 92.

If I were going to buy a double stack 9mm for range / competition use I would give serious consideration to the new Dan Wesson DWX... a heavy CZ75 influence with a 1911 SA trigger.... oh it looks sweet!

If you are going to carry the pistol AT ALL I would highly reccomend the plastic gun of your choice. Have ypu looked at the Beretta PX4 Storm? I have never shot a PX4 but I liked it when I held it in the gun store. I can't reccomend a PX4 one way or the other though.

Don't forget to look at hammer fired SIGs. I love the decocking lever that is seperate from the saftey on some of their models. It seems like there are some good deals on trade-in SIGs currently.

Are 9mm's even legal in your neck of the woods? I thought every pistol had to be 10mm or larger in Alask? LOL

The FNX-9 is a Polymer Beretta 92? Okayyyyyy...I don't think so, but...
I like the looks of the FNX-9, but I feel it's overpriced, and the grip texturing is over the top, but some people like all that "stuff". I don't need, or want an overly textured grip. The grip on a Taurus PT111 G2 is about my upper limit. I owned an FNS-40 for a while, and while it shot fine, the grip totally turned me off and I sold it off as I was getting out of .40S&W. I really like the 92FS and the clones, along with the Sigs..
