What is your favorite gun to carry both open and concealed?

I like the M&P Shield by S&W 9mm for concealed. I don't carry open unless on private property and then I like The Judge with the 6.5" barrel and .410 buckshot. Of course I still have my concealed on.

Hey gary, welcome to THR.
my favorite is a glock 30 (mines an sf). Thick? Yep, heavy? Uh huh. But the butt is short with 9 round mags and its easy to carry a 13 shot reload (usually dont). But the thing the g30 does that others have trouble measuring up against is how it shoots. Very similar to a g21 in handling, soft shooting and very accurate. Like having a geo metro that drives like a cadillac - i haven't found anything else thats able to match it for such versatility with a short grip. I will often carry a g20 if i think theres a chance i may actually need a gun and sometimes a g42 if im going to a pajama party or something. Not a glock fanboy by any stretch, just prefer to stick to one manual of arms for defense. Training with one does translate to experience with the other.

Warm/Hot Weather: Ruger LCR 38 special in pocket of cargo shorts

Cool Weather: Ruger LCPII 380acp in breast pocket of flannel shirt

Cold Weather: Charter Arms Bulldog 44 special in coat pocket

Sometimes I will carry something else on a whim, but if I am out and about, one of these is on me 99% of the time. It's warm/hot where I live most of the year, so it's usually the LCR.

All of these are "draw, aim, squeeze, bang". I don't prefer to carry anything with a real "manual of arms".

With LCRx grips for my XXL hands. It still fits in cargo shorts easily.

Overall the trigger, shape, and sights make it preferable to the P3AT, Pico, and older LCP for me. YMMV. (Admittedly the Pico has better sights.)

A larger-caliber revolver gives me the warm fuzzies. I like the shrouded hammer on this one. Please forgive the poor picture quality.

G48 concealed these days, I like the thin profile and the 4" barrel. Most open carry is on a mower and that's a poly judge, or if in the woods a 686 or GP-100.

For concealed carry, something small enough to conceal OWB, light enough to carry all day, and large enough to shoot well.

"Shoot well" means shooting rapidly with control.

A minimum of six rounds, but preferably more.

No separate operation necessary to disengage a safety, unless it is a 1911 type with disengagement occurring during presentation.

For me, it's a striker fired 9MM polymer-frame semi-auto. No ultra-compacts.

I do not carry openly.

I only change what I carry when there is a very good reason. I like to know that the gun I reach for will feel the same, grip the same, and work the same way every day.

Kahr CW9 or CM9. I don’t open carry, generally, so it’s a moot point, but if I’m out in the woods, it could be anything in the inventory from a Buckmark to my 6” Dan Wesson .41, depending on the situation.

No open carry here, unless I'm fishing or camping. For that, it would likely be my three-inch stainless Taurus 85. I find this rarity a very handsome and nice-shooting gun.

My EDC is a Kel-Tec PF9, and has been for many years. It just can't be easily beaten for ease of carry coupled with simplicity of operation in a shootable 9mm pistol. But, I'm taking a liking to my Taurus G2C, too.

I always have a P3AT in my front pocket and when out in public I ad my G26 in a CBST IWB holster. No open carry for me.

I switch things around depending on weather and how I'm dressed. In the cooler months, when I can get away with wearing a vest or blazer, it's either a compact or Commander-sized 1911 OWB in .45. In hotter months, I usually have something IWB under a Hawaiian shirt-- like a Colt 1903 in .32 or a Defender in .45. For absolute can't-get-caught-with-a-gun times, it's a KelTec P32 in a pocket or on the waistline with a belt clip.

I used to carry .38 and .357 snubnoses, but after ten years of trying to get good with them, I gave up. They've always been a struggle to shoot accurately for me. Since I have .38s and .357s, I never got too into 9mm, which I guess I really should do someday.

I seem to have settled on the Glock 19 as my preferred carry. Sure I like some of my 1911s or my 226 more and may carry it a bit but I always come back to the Glock.

Of recent I have joined the 21st century with a red dot on it and am starting to really appreciate that option, though I haven't gone full blown dot carry yet.

I'm not familiar with most of these model numbers you guys are using. I'm sort of new. I know what a 1911 looks like and I think a 365 is a 9mm and I know mine. I'm here to learn. Oh I also have shot 460 480 and 500 and .40s&w and judge. I also know the g is for Glock but no idea what a 26 etc means.

If you google Glock and the number, you will get an answer. For example, Glock 26 is a subcompact caliber 9mm, Glock 20 is a full size in 10 mm.

Right now it's my Sig P365. I have it in a sticky holster for pocket carry. Literally sits there all day and don't even notice it. Unless I am going to a place where CC is prohibited, it's with me 24/7/365.

I generally carry a Shield 9MM or a Glock 26.

But I just went through this drill with my daughter (27 years old). She’s become a shooter, but not a carrier, ever since our “vacation” to the Grand Canyon, with a side trip to Gunsite for a 250 Pistol class 5 years ago. She did get her CHL a few years ago, but never carried.

She’s has tried to concealed carry with her XDm 3.8C. She won’t/can’t make it work, but she’s tried enough lately to spur me to get her out with some different carry guns I own to see what works best.

So we hit the range with 4 single stack subcompact 9’s, a pair of Shields (one regular, one performance model), a Sig P290, and my new Glock 43 that I bought a few weeks ago on a whim.

She had shot some of them before, but I asked her to load every mag and shoot at least three mags through each gun after first performing a half dozen dry fires before shooting each gun. After the required three mags, she narrowed it down to the PerformanceCenter Shield and the G43. So she went through a few more mags with each gun, back and forth. Then, she started focusing on the Glock, and after another 4 mags, she was ringing the 10” steel plates at 25 yards consistently.

So...my new G43, the new Sticky holster and DeSantis pocket holster, 4 boxes of range ammo, and a 50 round box of HST’s went home with her when she left the house. And I have a new Bravo Concealment holster on order that she’ll get soon. Yeah, I’m a sucker!

When I told my wife I gave her the new Glock, and she laughed and replied “you’ll do anything to buy another gun, won’t you?”

Really like the pictures. Understand better with them. I'll put one of my own up. Oh I forgot to mention that it has a Crimson Trace laser.

Next question is more specific...where on your person do you carry concealed?
