New York hunters

That would be a scary thing to have walk up to you out in the woods.

That might makee feel a little under gunned Bell might disagree.

Last year on one of our shooting trips i was checking out some forest serice roads up in the Cascade Mountains looking for some more places to shoot, we seen a half grown cougar cross the road.
Between the cougars coyotes and wolves the deer and elk out here don't stand a snowballs chance in hell.

This mountain is across the road we turn off of to go shooting. The picture was taken in the middle of July.


My grandson shooting the Marlin 17HMR. I let hom carry a handgun while we are out in the mountains. This gravel pit is about three miles back in the mountains. If you drive over the summit the next maintained road is over thirty miles north. There is lots of big predators and meth cooking operations going on out there.
That day he was carrying my stainless 6" Ruger GP100 357 magnum.
He can hit soda cans full of water with it.

Washington State game department lies all the time. They restocked wolves here and they are killing everything in sight, deer, elk, cows and sheep.
They say there are between 1,900 and 2,100 cougars.
Oregon is about the same size and the same geography make up and they say they have about 6,500 cougars.
So some one is lieing about the numbers.
People are getting trail cam pictures of wolves and the game department says they are not wolves. They are either coyotes or someones house pet.

There isa lot of differece between a 65 pound gernan shepard or a 35 pound coyote and a 150 pound wolf.

If I see these Pos I would SSS when i see these coyotes and or misplaced house pets.

I have a lot of place that I found to go shooting up in the mountains. Some times we will leave Saturday morning and camp.out and shoot again all day Sunday.
My grandson will go througj a hundred, some times a hundred & fifty 38spl, 357 magnum, 44 pl & 44 magnum and a bunch of 22lr.
A friend gave him a 223 - AR15 this past spring so he shoots that a lot as well. Along with what ever else I happen to take out for the day.he like the SKS I bought a couple of years ago.
He has shot my 30/06 Springfield M1 Garand.
That is why I get back into reloading.
I do need to pick up a progressive press.
I have two single stage Hornady Lock n Load presses. I will be getying a Hornady progressive when the time comes.

Iirc nysdec was doing the same thing, in the high peak region of Adirondack park. I haven't heard much about it lately though.

This afternoon on the way home I will be stoping by Belair airport shuttle place and pay them for the ride to & from the seattle airport. A week from today I will be flying back there. My son will be pulling the SD cards from the trail cams set up where I will be sitting first day. They have been seeing a nice buck in that area, but a nice big doe will work just as good.

Any one interested in a $5 pool for the first deer on the16th? I'd be in and my brother would be in.

I'm in for $5.00.

I'll probably skip work next Thursday Nov 14, it's been weird the last few weeks. Real slow I've left early at least 3 days a we or not gone at all. It is a slow season but never this slow.

That's what I hear too, not sure how much though.

It's been pretty cold here last few mornings thermometer in my truck said 33, had ice all over it. I slipped and fell on my front stairs this morning. No serious injuries, just sore.

Mine's and but I can lock it in 4x4 . I like snow while hunting as well. Quite walking usually. Easier to track if necessary. Hearing the snow fall is quite relaxing as well.

It works both ways, it is easier to see them, but they can see you better too.

I don't mind the snow as long as it isn't to deep. Beats the hell out of rain.

Looking forward to the 1st day.
It sucks to trip up on the stairs or anywhere as far as that goes.

It rained a couple years ago on my first day out that season. Near the end of the day I did a spot and stalk on 4 does I didn't shoot couldn't get a clear shot between the brush and ground fog rising. It was better to give them a pass.

About thirty-five years ago it was about mid deer season and we seen some deer in the field late one afternoon up on Old State Road on the right side of the road before you drop down to the Springs Road and the fog was getting thick.
The fog was just above ground level about three feet. You could see most of the deer but not their heads which didn't matter because my friend had a doe tag and his buck tag.
He picked what looked like the biggest one and touched his shotgun off, a old Remington 12 gauge plain barrel 870.
It was a nice big doe, he alwas said she died with her head up in the clouds.
We shot a lot if deer in that area, Clet Bolton, Charlie Raish, the Rishlou brothers and a couple of other people all had from 50 to a 100 acre parcels of land and we had acess to all of it. Most of them are all dead now. Those were the good old days.
When I get back there next week I want to go see if I can gain acess to some of the places I use to hunt thirty to forty years ago.
It would be nice to shoot some deer at these places again.

We will have to exchange phone numbers for the first deer of the season. When you harvest your deer text a picture of it to the other guys.

If you know other people who will be out hunting first day ask them if they want in for $5 on the 1st deer.
It would be nice to get fifteen to twenty guys in on it.
I use to hunt with Ike and Jack Goodrich up on the Page Brook Road in Quinnyville. Up above Chenango Valley State Park. They use to put a bunch of deer drives on. They did a drive pool, a dollar for the first buck and a dollar for the first doe each drive if no one got a buck or a doe you put another dollar in fortthe next drive.

On one drive no one shot a doe, the next drive I got dropped off to drive the deer. I walked across a small field, got to the brush line and two does were bedded down. As they were getting up I shot the bigger of the two. I ended up with $30 on that push.
Any money left over at the end of the day was used to buy beer.

This year I want to hunt with all reloaded ammo.
I have a bunch of range brass that I have been processing. Last weekend I wet tumbled about a hundred & seventy pieces of 30/30 brass.
After they dried I resized them.
Tonight I measured it all and pulled out sixty-one pieces that didn't need to be trimmed.
Now I have to go buy some projectiles for them and get them reloaded for my Marlin 335.
I think I will wait until I get back there to load up some 308.
I alread have a bunch of 243 loaded with 100 grain Hornady SST projectiles.

Getting ready is half the fun.

Bring some of them up to Walton and we can get out and see where they are hitting. Most of my shots should be less the seventy yards.
That is if I can keep still and not screw up.
Years ago you could hunt almost every where, now a days it is hard to gain acess and most of the places I use to hunt got broken up in to small parcels and sold for building lots as they died off and the kids inherited the property.

Cancer sucks hope she beats it permanently, I have a buddy who used to hunt with me. He works at Lebanon seaboard Corporation right across the parking lot from my house. He got remarried 2 months ago and found out last week his wife has breast cancer.

I saw him Sunday morning he had an accident and broke his hand. He loved hunting, but can't seem to be able to get time off to go. I've even offered to loan him a rifle to get him out but have been unsuccessful so far.
