Putting aside my negative thoughts on Walmart's recent decision to stop selling handgun ammo....I did note yesterday that most had been tagged and priced as "Closeout" at the Freeport, IL store. I have been somewhat waiting for this to happen and jumped on some 9mm 115gr practice ammo at $7.00 a box. Just FYI in case you want to pick the carcass clean along with us ammo vultures.

Thanks for the “heads-up”. Following their CEO’s anti-2A virtue signaling, picking the carcass clean for ammo is the only reason I will darken the Walmart threshold with my shadow.

I posted there - somewhere around post #30 - and continue to shop elsewhere & email Walmart to let them know competition is getting my family’s $8k to $10k grocery- drugstore-etc spending).

Last time I attempted to purchase ammo at WM I waited so long for someone to show up to the counter I ended up calling the main store line from inside the store on my cell phone then waited another half hour while they tracked down whoever it was that had the key to the display case. All done with that nonsense.

I have not been by the ammo counter at my local walmarts in quite some time. I will make a point of taking a peek soon.

I took home the last three boxes of Winchester 230gr JHP at $30/box today from the local Wally--- $6/box cheaper than the "old" price.
The .40 cals were down to $15/box.
Lots of handgun ammo on the shelves---a lot of Federal---the clerk said the warehouse is clearing them out

I've never been a fan of WalMart. They come into smaller towns with cheap prices and shut down all the local stores that did at least offer some service. They then steal the employees and won't let most of them work enough hours for benefits. I have a good friend that is in management at Sams Club. He said the real reason Wal Mart is not going to sell handgun ammo is they aren't making the profit margin they want. One of the main reasons is employee theft. The reason they stated of helping to stop violence etc is just a publicity stunt. Makes sense. If they were really that concerned, they would have just pulled the ammo off the shelf instead of milking every last dollar out of what they have in stock. It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see handgun ammo on the shelves for a long time. Some of their stores still have cases full of guns and I thought they were supposed to be getting out of the firearms business all together.
Its all about the dollars my friends. I only use WM as a last resort when I need something. I don't mind paying for service within reason.

I went to check it out. They had federal 180 gr .40 for $13/50. They also had the federal synthetic jacket defense in 9mm for $11/20. The remington defense ammo was $13/20 in 9 and 38 and $15/30 in 380 and 45.

Dallas, Old Denton @ 190. They had about half of their handgun and all 223 ammo labeled discontinued on the price tabs. I spoke with the store manager, as the ammo key was not available elsewhere. It seems nobody knows what will or will not be discontinued. Outstanding pricing.

So I went over to the sporting goods counter at my local Walmart this evening period late and doing some remodeling and it appears that they have combined the sporting goods counter with the counter for the auto shop. So I took a look at the ammo display. lots of clearance tags but nothing that really jumped out at me and forced me to buy it.

Well I was standing there looking at it and employee came by and asked me if I was interested in anything. can't say I've ever had that happened before when I'm looking at the ammo. while I was standing there the fire alarm went off. Several employees came to the area. Most asking each other what to do. One older lady came up and said customers are not allowed behind the counter. I looked at the guy was talking to and he said he didn't know that was a rule. Not too long a announcement was made over the radio saying it was a water problem and not a fire.

When I was leaving I saw a fire truck parked out front

I must say I was under impressed with their response to the fire alarm basically they just congregated around the counter asking each other how long it will take management to tell them what to do

All possibilities of the alarm's origins being considered, I'm glad no one attempted to herd customers out the door. I told our kids that in the absence of actual signs of fire to not react to fire alarms at school or in public spaces.

I believe Walmart has quietly backtracked at a lot of their superstores.

One thing I find amazing in my little corner of the world, is that all the humans “up in arms” about WalMart’s statement of discontinuing ammo sales (even thought they didn’t) went to shop at MEIJER, who actually DID remove all of their handgun AND AR-15 ammunition.

I find these human think that only “Wal-Mart people” shop at Walmart and they pay a little more not to have to deal with “those people”.

I laugh at their flawed reasoning and abject distain for those they view as lesser humans. Even though these lesser humans are found quite readily at any venue open to the general populace, whether Meijer, Macy’s or Saks...

Wal-Mart can keep their ammo. I don’t care if they are giving it away.

I would be the first in line for free ammunition...

As a single Dad, I must be thoughtful in where I stand in my personal values.
If Wal-Mart has to say things to keep the sheep happy, I will still try to spend the least amount I can on me and my hobby.
That way I still have one and Dadi doesn’t go crazy from only being mommy, and the kids still get new clothes.

I just bought four hundred nine millimeter rounds for less than I could have just bullets shipped to my house for.

I've been stocking up on 38 spl mega packs and 9mm since the announcement. It's my understanding that Walmart still has contracts with vendors they've got to honor so it's not just a matter of emptying their warehouses. When the contracts are fulfilled and the warehouses empty it's over. I've never liked the mega stores business practices but I like the price. I don't like the political views of a lot of actors but I like some of their movies. Same with some professional athletes, but I still watch them play. If I stood on principle alone, I'd go broke and have nothing to watch on TV.

I haven’t even looked at ammo at Walmart since the 22lr panic. Especially after catching employees selling 22lr ammo out the back door to their relatives/friends while refusing to sell more than 1 box of 50 to customers in the store.

There are a few things that I do buy at Walmart, either way cheaper than elsewhere in town or only available there (small town living). Otherwise I avoid stepping foot in Walmart if I don’t have to.

Thanks for the heads up. I just checked my WM and sure enough everything was marked down from a few days ago. 250 mega packs of UMC 130 gr FMJ 38 spl $59.00 down from $68 and change. 250 pack UMC 9mm 115 gr FMJ $40. Winchester 9mm 115 gr FMJ-500rnds for $74. I almost wish I'd waited 'till now to buy.

I went in for a couple pair of jeans and swung by the sporting goods and they had pistol, .223 and 7.62x39 on clearance.
Also seen Remington core lokt .270, .308 and .30-06 on rollback to $12.87 a box.

I talked to the older counter guy at the local WM. He works at two stores. Both managers have told him diffetent stories about ammo. From what he sees they can only order replacment stock. This for handgun ammo, 223/5.56, and 7.62X39. No ordering a pallet for that store and most stores will still be selling hand gun ammo stock until all is gone. He said it may take years literally. We all know this has been a loss leader to get us into the store in the first place for years anyway so I am not surprised this is happening. Buy away if you need to but I am a reloader.;) I might buy some bulk .22 on occasion but that is not going to be removed as he hears it.

Just looked at the ammo at the local wally world...I mean, it's a couple of bucks cheaper than normal, but nothing to get excited about. For a "discontinued closeout special" they seem not to be trying too hard to clear it out. This may just be a marketing scheme to sell off the overstock of ammo they contracted themselves for. If they wanted to dump their ammo, they could certainly do it, I have a feeling there will be rounds on the shelves for many months to come...and depending on the election, perhaps indefinitely.

Purchased 2 boxes of 12 gage in the Warwick Rhode Island store, everything seemed normal Ammo shelves were well stocked. This is one of their super stores. As I type this I realized I’m getting low on 22’s. I’ll have to go back and check it out.

I just checked the local wallyworld. The best deal there is a 500 pk of 9mm that was $6 off. Most things were exactly a dollar less than before.
