Did you hit it on the run? Shot looks a little far back which is why I asked, looks like a nice pelt.

The head looks big for the body, probably just the picture though.

Depends on how big a hole :D
Two came in running and one stopped. I had a misfire and it tried bolting so I barked and it stopped behind some brush. That’s actually exit hole and entrance hit heart area and through guts.

What rifle and ammo?
Ruger American go wild or something like that with Hornady custom ammo. I was facing north with a SW wind and two gut piles close by and he and what appeared to be another were coming from the NNW heading south. Shot was a hair over 80yards.

What are pelts worth nowadays? Way back in the early 80s in ND, we would upwards of $65 during the winter
Not sure. I’m having it done for a friend of mine who always helps me with stuff. $100 shipped to tanner.

Hopefully after leaving him in the garage all night it’s still good to tan. Trapper shop said be here by 7pm but after my buddies who drove killing 2 deer it was 730 by the time I got to the truck.

yes, but Dakotas/Montana/Wyoming coyotes generally fetched the best prices due to their coloration and high “silver” coloring.

Eastern Yotes, while bigger animals/hides, generally fetched less due to more browns, unless fashion preferences changed these days.

That hole can be sewn up by a competent taxidermist. The real damage occurs when using a hi-speed expanding bullet like a varmint bullet at 3000 f/s.

Yep.

.458 SOCOM with a 100 gr. Lehigh HP. Just under 3,000 fps at the muzzle.

Warning: Pictures are graphic.

Great looking Coyote OP, I'd definitely get that hide tanned.

Well not sure what’s going on now. I talked to the trapper shop last night and he said he’s leaving at 7pm but we ended up with two deer, so I was late. I show up this morning and the retail shop says skinner is trapping and leave it out back on the deck and he would have the guy call me. No one called so going to check tomorrow. I with it having guts and stuff in it that it was okay to leave there.

I don’t know anything about coyotes but watching Mountain Men Tom says yotes need to be skinned quickly or the bacteria from their guts affects the pelt.

I never had issues with beaver or rats and we didn’t have yotes in the 70’s when I was trapping.

great shooting.

Local trap shop called and said the yote has several buckshot holes in it but would send to the tanner and taxidermist for me anyways. $100 to have professionally done isn’t bad.
