Enjoyment Options: Autoloading .22 WMR

I would always pop for an Auto-Mag at a good price.
Then, I'd commence to confirm fit & finish, magazine feed lip tuning, ONE PARTICULAR LOADING initially while chasing potential gremlins and ultimately have a fine and satisfying gun.

Most of what gets regurgitated regarding the *AMT* failings is overstated across the entire AMT line of firearms regardless the; generation, manufacturing site, contemporary metallurgical knowledge, etc...

ALL Auto mags can be *made* good if they are bought at the right price and the owner is patient and handy or can afford to have a better qualified person go through them.

Me? I see AMT firearms as essentially un-finished, or, fully-assembled kits and purchase accordingly. Some have needed nothing to run sweetly but I have yet to give up on one.
Sadly, as with another oddity, the Olympic OA-93, I like to buy other fellas' problem-children and when I'm done, I get offered too much money so.... off they go.

As to the PMR-30.... I'm so happy with mine that I'd GLADLY own one with only 10-round capacity and most especially in a single stack.

According to a person much more knowledgeable in physics than I the 22 WMR is difficult to manufacture in a reliable semiauto handgun. According to my personal experience I have never fired a reliable handgun chambered in that caliber. My experience with AMT has been poor. I would not purchase their products. The opinions expressed are solely those of the scribe.

My early 6" AMT Auto Mag .22Mag works well with Winchester 40 grain FMJ or HP, It works well with the same weight CCI Maxi Mags. It also works well with the 50 grain Federal load.

I have an old AMT, an old Grendel p-30 and a newer (but early ) keltec pmr. The AMT is the least reliable of the lot with a range of ammo but it works with some ammo just fine and the mags are much better than the other two, and are actually still available. The Grendel has worked fine for 20 years but admittedly none have been used a lot. The only 22 magnum handguns I have that shoot reasonably accurate are revolvers. I've seen plenty of 22 magnum rifles that weren't even accurate. Oddly in 22 LR, some of my handguns are just as accurate as many of my rifles. Maybe the magnum powders just dont like the shorter barrels or twist rates. Idk all that said if I were limited to 10 rounds and wanted a 22 magnum handgun I'd likely get the revolver or AMT.
If you want a truly reliable and accurate 22 magnum (ish) I'd just buy the Five Seven and be done with it. They are around 1k new vs (400 for the pmr) with 3 mags and not known to be problematic. Also FN will be around later for service. I have a few thousand rounds through my 5.7 with no problems. The ammo is 20 bucks for 50, higher quality ammo with v-max bullets, and during the ammo shortages it was still on shelves. My only complaints are that they are loud (and so are the 22 magnums) and they throw brass a mile. Compared to 22 magnum the 5.7 ammo is just more accurate

I have no intrest in a 22 mag but if I did the KT PMR would be it. The trigger is actually very nice.

I am a .22mag fan, and would definitely consider a keltec PMR30.

Working with Winchester 40 HPs means it's well on its way to working with most anything. That's a HUGE plus.

It doesn't like the light bullet loads or Remington loads, for some odd reasons

I was most excited 15 or 20 or maybe 25 years ago when Remington came out with a ballistic tip in 22 magnum. I thought it a perfect bullet for my grendel and AMT. (Kelgren was running Grendel in the ground and hadnt started keltec yet so no PMR). Unfortunately the AMT wouldn't feed it through the magazine because of the length and tip and the P-30 didnt shoot if worth a darn. Nor did any rifle I tried it in. Not sure why.

I would get a 22Mag but the ammo is just to damn expensive for "plinking" and even though I don't hunt, I see no use for it there either.
I reload so 9mm or whatever is fine for me.

22lr Hv is good enough for range use and small critters.

22lr for plinking

32 for small game

Two Kel Tec PMR 30s in the family. When loaded according to instructions with recommended ammunition, we have not experience any failures after the first 50-60 rounds. I would like the 5.7, but it costs about three PMR 30s.

so few .22mag pistols. not much to choose from. the keltec pmr30 is what I have. mines finally reliable. dont believe many start out that way though that I've seen or read about. could be wrong, I usually am. ya might consider the 5.7 as well

I know ya said mag capacity an issue for legal issues but dont most makers always have a 10 round mag option? maybe not on the state only allows certain guns on a list, eg. cali and maryland style, in rule though? I don't know. I live where I can buy anything pretty much.

The PMR's are too much fun, nice trigger, light, ours have been reliable and cheap. I'm both biased and limited as I only own the PMR. SGAMMO runs serious bargains on the mag ammo and the two we have eat them all. We have an early one and a newer production and both have functioned remarkably.

Our last one was used, very little and dirt cheap. Serious bang for the buck.

I bought a FN 5.7. Got ammo on sale with a Federal rebate. The ammo is cheaper than 22 Mag.

I was gonna try and reload it, but it is a royal PITA and by the time I get the projectiles, factory ammo is cheaper!

It is one of those guns "i just had to have" Don't bother the trigger sucks (its a military gun) and no mods for it (unless you pay big money) It has a "cool factor" but that is about it.
