New York hunters

Troy there must be acorns or some other food source there that they are after. Where I shot them two does has a bunch of oak in there and it looks like a bunch of pigs rutted it all up. I have seen deer in this area when the snow gets six inches or better.

The dems really taxed the he!! Out of the state. My friend in Huntington has a three bedroom ranch house that needs some attention and his property taxes are $13,000 a year. One of his friends lives in Loyd's Harbor two blocks from Durcans house. A two bedroom ranch house with zero maintance in over twenty years and his real estate taxes are $24,000 a year.
Crazy paying that much to the government to cover their entitlements and other scams.
Even out here in the liberal state of Washington is getting really bad. We have a two story three bedroon house with one bathroom. We paid $75,000 for it and they took the assesment up over $3000,000.
A guy I worked with bought a three bedroom double wide trailer in Bothel set up.in a trailer so no yard to speak of and they took his assesment up to $250,000.

About 30 minutes after sitting down, I see a deer way off like 300 yards. We were in pretty think stuff but the deer was in even thicker stuff with some pine trees. My friend said he had a shot, I told him to take it. He missed and it was so think even looking through the scope it was hard to see them. We went down to check no blood. We waited till dark but the woods seemed quiet after that.

I could not believe all the tracks we seen hundreds, Turkey mixed in. I forgot my camera. So it's a hot spot given the snow is not a week old yet

I think I can get out Sunday with him. I'll try to get out tomorrow morning if I can. I was just happy to watch deer today.

Sorry you didn't have a shot but now you can get a better position in order to get one.

Could your buddy stalk around behind and push them into the open.

I have watched this thread with great interest. It appears that not all of the participants knew each other before the start of the thread and there may have been people who met on this thread who met and hunted together. Would one of the participants be kind enough to outline who knew who before hand and who met on this thread or in the field?

Hunting in New York is certainly different than out west. Here my hunts, that I have to be drawn for, last 7 days. We do have the option of putting in for the draw in a group that actually increases your chances of getting drawn and hunting together. In my case I have no one to hunt with other than my daughters who are now old enough to not really care about hunting.

This has been a great thread and thank you all for the time you put into it.

I went out at about noon and by 1:30 o shot this 7 pointer.

I,m happy you like this thread and like it.
Some of us were posting on another thread and started to hijack it so Troy started this thread and others joined in and made it more interesting.
Most every one on this thread didn't know each other until we started talking and see where every one was located then we set up time for a hunt and time to get aquainted. Next year we will get together and spend more time out after deer. One guy is um around Albany, another up around Rochester, Speedo was from NYC and moved to Ohio. (Lots of beig anterled deer come from Ohio).
Troy is close to the City, his father lives about thirty miles from where I stay at with my family and Bert is from Binghamton (where I was born & raised and where Dick's Sporting Goods started out down on Court Street not far from Bert's house).

Maybe next year we will have more New York people chime in and get together to hunt and have a big meet & greet day.

We will probably keep this thread going to comunicate so check in once in a while.

What states do you hunt in on the Western Side?
I live in Washington State and don't hunt out here at all. It is to expensive. With all the cougars, coyotes, wolves and bears the deer & elk don't stand a chance. The licenses are to expensive, most everything is pay to get into a drawing for a tag.
I will not waste my money by giving it to this liberaly ran game dept.

I was in Afton on hunt road the same spot I shot the spike. The exact spot.
The 7 point didn't even know I was there.

First off my SIL and daughter both worked today so my wife and I watched our grandson overnight. We took him to a 2 flea markets, we had fun. Any way we got back at around 11:00 and started getting ready to go out. Yesterday I had asked my SIL, if I see a buck want me to shoot him. His response was hell yes.

I grab my rem 700 7mm-08, coat, fanny pack and leave., I forgot my ear pro, but had soft plugs in the truck so it was OK. I arrived at the first state game land on hunt rd in Afton, geared up, walked into the old logging road and loaded up 5 140 nosler ballistic tips. The snow revealed literal highways where deer were moving through. I still hunted the logging road, at 1 spot I stopped looked to my left and saw a lone deer watching me, I knew if I moved the gun to shoot it would spook. So I tried to ignore it, with my first step it ran. I gave it about 15 minutes to settle down and continued to my spot. When I got there I removed my pack, looked around and saw a deer moving belowe from left to right. I was a little surprised to see him stick his head under a pine bough to nose the ground, he was nearly facing me, I had an open shooting lane about 2 feet wide. Y only shot was high shoulder I took it. At the shot he looked like he was dazed then hunched and ran. I watched him looking for another place to shoot but didn't get one. The shot was about 80 yds kneeling, went to where I shot and found brown hair and dragarks in the snow. No blood, plenty of tracks, drag marks I found him 20 yards from where I last saw him. He went about 40 yds.

Sorry I left you all hanging I was kind of busy. I calledy SIL and told him I shot a buck and he came to me to tag it because I had already used mine.
He was excited when he saw the buck.

I gave him my doe tag so he can go out tomorrow. I'm done until muzzle loader season next weekend.

Years ago I use to use my old Remington 700 in 222 Rem. For deer hunting and retrieved several bullets inside on the deer.
My oldest son has several bullets that he retrieved in his twenty-five plus years of deer hunting. He can shoot distance with both handgun and long gun
He shot a deer 280 yards with his scoped 15" pistol 7mmTCU on a T/C Contender frame.
Same field he shot another deer 450 yards with a scoped 15" 270 pistol barrel on his T/CEncore frame.
I'll have to ask him what caliber and type of gun he retrieved the most projectiles from.

I just checked with my SIL, he didn't find the bullet. Sorry

He said that the front shoulder, scapula was destroyed and couldn't skin around it, so he just cut the front quarter off and discarded it. Well we still have 3/4 anyway.
