I bought a new LCP (with long trigger). I'm having problems seating the mags. I mean I've got to smack them hard. None of my other pistols has this problem. The mag. release is iffy too. They are Ruger mags.

I have never noticed this problem with mine. I would guess the mag spring is just new and hasn't taken a set yet. Do you have the same problem if you try to seat the mag with only 2 rounds in it? A heavy spring could also be making the mag release harder to active too.
I did have an issue with the mag release on my XD mod 2 when I first bought it. The mag release was very hard to actuate and I had to push it way in before the mag would drop. It worked itself out in time.
Have you shot it yet? I cleaned off all the lube and racked the slide a few hundred times before I shot mine for the first time. (I put an appropriate light lube on before shooting of course.) I have never had a feed or any other problem with mine.
I would put a couple of boxes through your LCP and then see where it is at. If you are still having problems you can send it back to Ruger and I am confident they will take care of you.

The mag that came with the gun is much better than the other three Ruger mags. I suspected the same problem with the springs needing to take set, but this is not the case. The mag. that came with the gun is pretty good, but the other 3 Ruger made in USA mags are problematic. Even when empty they are hard to seat and 2 require a slap from the palm of my hand. I have heard of others having the same problem. I know Ruger will fix it, but it's a known issue for many years and it's still a problem. I haven't shot it yet, but I did hand cycle some different types of ammo thru it. Some h/p balked, but I can polish the feed ramp which I have done to many of my pistols. I will probably just carry ball ammo in it. I have owned a Kel Tec p32 since they came out with them about 20 years ago and have carried it as long. Other than a weak extractor spring which they fixed and a firing pin that got peened in the rear (they sent me a replacement and new spring) the gun has been 100%.

I'll give them a call after Christmas as there may be more problems that arise after I shoot it.

Ideas: clean the mag wells, and magazines innerds with CLP. Be sure to use the mag release button to drop AND Insert a magazine.

The problem as I see it now is some of the mags. are a little out of spec. They are older ones. I would rather try and fix the offensive mags. with a little use of a Dremel, little by little until all seat properly. Granted this is a backup weapon so the chances of a reload are pretty slim, but it still needs to be right.
I rapped them so much that my palm is sore today.

I've had 2 LCP Gen 2's, my original and one Ruger replaced this year when the original finally locked up and died. My mags on both were stiff to fully seat when fully loaded and new, but I've never had a problem with them going in the gun when empty. Call Ruger. If it's a real problem with multiple magazines, I don't think I'd want to trust my life to a homemade fix.

I am assuming the OP is speaking about the 1st gen LCP, not the LCP II. Since the LCP does not have a last shot slide hold open the slide remains closed. This makes it more difficult to insert a fully loaded mag.
On both of my LCPs, unless I push the mag release button while inserting the mag it makes it even more difficult to insert a fully loaded mag. Just press the mag release button while inserting a mag.

it doesn't matter with this magazine problem. I have two regular lcp (non-hold open) magazines that would bind up the same as the hold open magazine that came with the gun. I modified all three so the top round of the loaded magazine would stop binding up the slide.
some shooters (not me) like to top off the mag, so inserting a fully loaded mag with the slide forward applies to both guns in this situation.

I have my LCP at 6+1 (full load). I was stating that if you push the magazine release button in while inserting the magazine it will be easier to insert the magazine.
