there is NEVER a “panic run” on 30-06 ammo because guys who own 30-06’s don’t panic!
I've killed a lot of deer with my .308 and I haven't ONCE bought a box of factory ammo for it.

I have been shooting, hunting and reloading for my .270 Win for over 35 years. Has never let me down. Not about to change now just because some caliber becomes "trendy." But by all means, suite yourself.

Its perfect in every way.... long range capable, not a terrible kicker, reliably accurate, and it's just plain cool looking.
My 12 year old son put the smack down on a big doe just this evening with mine....a 550 yard bang flop....she was dead before she hit the ground.
That makes 16 deer in 16 shots for this rifle.... from 200 to a little over 800 yards...it does what it does without any fuss.

You know, I remember getting into "best deer caliber" arguements in high school. I'm 67 years old. That's been a while.
Well since I started this debate ill give my pick. I have 7mm08 3030 270 243 308 3006 6.5cm 7mag 35rem
375rem 300wwsm. But out of all these if I could only keep one I would keep my 30/06. Just because its hard to beat for many situation. Everyone has their opinion and that's all I was asking. Every gun I mentioned will kill deer.3006 is my pick. Thanks for everyone's opinion.

You think a .30-30 or .35 rem will kill deer!? You're joking! Not with all the new fangled armored guerilla warfare they present nowadays!

I used to hear it for hours at deer camp..You know, I remember getting into "best deer caliber" arguements in high school. I'm 67 years old. That's been a while.
The yearly 270 with a 130 vs. the 30-06 with a 180.. So I bought a 7R mag..
Although I shot them and admired the results, much to my dismay, I never bought a .270.

Boy I'll tell you what, I guess I'm the odd man out.
I would use either .243 win or .257 Roberts. I never thought deer needed any more than that and I can ground hog hunt, varmint hunt and anything else I needed to do with either of them.
I have also used 30-30, 32 special, 308 win, 30-06 and 8mm for deer hunting and with the 308, 30-06, and 8mm always felt a little over gunned.
I never had any trouble putting anything down with a .243, if I had to pick only one it would be a .243.

I never cared about anything BUT the .257 Roberts until I was in my 40s thinking about elk.
It normally leaves 'em dead in their tracks. Of course, this is Texas. Never shot anything over 200 lbs on the hoof with it. The gun has killed a lot of deer for me, though, over the years, starting in 1963.- Status
