Small Ring Mauser Stock Options

Hope everyone's Christmas festivities were amazing and safe.

I want to see if anyone has experience with small ring mauser actions/stock choices.

Cost isn't a giant factor, its about the bonding over building, assembling, and shooting finished rifles.

I am talking about 1893 Odevo Spanish Mausers in the original 7x57 caliber.

What I am looking for;

A Manlicher style stock, I have always loved the look of them.

A Military reproduction/original option, make a pseudo-calvary carbine. (All of them are 21" barrels) so an original stock would need to be cut. (My 28" barrel 1895 Chilean looks just a hair too long, but could be cut down) Figured I'd cut it to length and put a Cavalary sight post to hold it together. I know it wouldnt be a true cavalry carbine, but it's more about getting a similar look.

These two are the ideal options.
I am also open to sporter style/Monte Carlo stocks.

Open to composite stocks as well, my father is leaning composite with scout scope mount. I want to surprise him with a "cavalry clone" stock like he wants/cant find. Wood is our ideal first pick though.


I have seen a few websites selling stock blanks.
What are your thoughts on these?
Anyone ever cut a blank?
Is there an option of inlay/bedding a large action stock to accommodate a small ring mauser versus the large ring 98?
I know the 1893 will work/fit with 1895 Chile and 1916 Spanish Spanish guns(ours are dated 1929, 30, and 21) so figuring between those three I can find something to fit them.

Worse case, we'd all just get sporter polymer/wooden stocks. Really hoping to find a manlicher/pseudo style.

I could be wrong, but i think you may need to custom build your own if you want a manlicher style. There is some, but not much out there for aftermarket small ring stocks. It seems no one wants to put money into the small rings anymore, and aftermarket part makers have noticed. Im not real familiar with 1893 actions, but I know 1895’s have some extra material removed in the wood for the auxiliary safety lug behind the bolt handle, which would leave a void when you place an 1896 into an 1895 stock. Keep us posted what on what you find please, as I am very fond of small rings and am still curious and learning. Ive taken to just cutting down and refinishing/checkering the original wood on these rifles as some of them can have really pretty wood. I also do not “molest” collectibles unless they are already modified.

Thank you all for the responses.
Maybe I'll get an 8MM or 98 Manlicher and just make mine a Sporter. Just seems the easier route honestly.
My dad was leaning synthetic, but wood is just aestetically more pleasing.
I can always buy more guns.
Never need an excuse for that!

I will post updates on what I buy in the upcoming weeks. Probably get its own Mauser build thread soon.

Edit;
Maybe I can buy a junker .308 part it out. Sell the receiver and barrel om GB recoup the cost. Might do just that actually.
 
Try Richards MicroFit. They will take some work, but I’ve had okay luck in the past with them. I’m pretty sure they offer their stocks in mannlicher length under options.

As for Mausers in full length stocks, I’m a fan...

(Note: this stock is of unknown origins, not a Richards stock)

Someone mentioned Boyd’s Stocks and I second them. You won’t find a mannlicher style among the offeings but they have several Monte Carlo stocks for the small ring mauser. They can be had unfinished so you can apply a traditional oiled finish if you prefer. I’ve built a couple of Howa action rifles on Boyd’s Stocks and have not been disappointed. Also, Numrich sometimes has original stocks on hand. SOMETIMES being the key word their and they usually go quickly.

i like the unfinshed look you can put your own stain on them and tru oil
