While this clearly demonstrated to Northam and his cronies that they underestimated the support for the 2A in VA, a successfull rally is the fun part of Activism. Now the hard work must be seen to.

Keep the letters, emails, phone calls flooding in to the elected officials. Remind them politely that you oppose any restrictions on gun owners and that you will support them if they support us AND that you will work against them if they vote against us.

Remember that there are Recall efforts already starting to unseat Antis so you don't have to wait until November to unseat those who would infringe upon the 2nd. Get 5 friends or family that are VA voters to sign those Recall petitions. If just one seat is recalled it sends a huge message.

Start NOW working politically against the Antis that have publicly pledged to take away your rights and remember that the Antis are against all of those that showed up for Lobby Day regardless of race, creed, color, gender, ancestry, left, right, or libertarian. This is a natural right guranteed to all Americans that they would infringe upon.

Volunteer with the peaceful efforts to unseat those that would infringe upon the 2A.

Important action: It at all possible, attend committee hearings when both anti- and pro-gun bills are heard. Committee votes are where the fate of most bills is sealed, especially making sure bad bills never reach the Senate or House of Delegates for full vote.

To learn when key bills are scheduled for committees, subscribe to the VA-Alert email newsletter.

When you attend, wear your Guns Save Lives gear so they know why you are there, even if you do not speak.

To keep up with the VCDL position and current status of every bill of interest, check the 2020 Legislation Tracker page regularly.

p.s. Join VCDL.

It seems as the rally did nothing to deter the state legislators from proceeding as planned.

https://wset.com/news/at-the-capitol/va-senate-and-house-leaders-praise-peaceful-rally-in-richmond

"Democratic lawmakers — including House Speaker Eileen Filler-Corn and Senate Majority Leader Dick Saslaw — told the Associated Press that the rally wouldn’t impact their plans to pass gun-control measures, including universal background checks and a one-handgun-purchase-a-month limit. Democrats say tightening Virginia’s gun laws will make communities safer and help prevent mass shootings like the one last year in Virginia Beach, where a dozen people were killed in a municipal building."

Very important. Committees can be where bills go to die. We can make sure that bad bills die and good bills have life breathed into them by focusing appointments, letters, emails, and calls on the critical committee members.

I'm not so sure about that. There are at least 4 Democratic Senators that have serious reservations about an AWB. (Deeds, Edwards, Lewis, Petersen.) Impartial observers consider that it's unlikely, at this point, that an AWB will pass.

Now, it's true that these Senators were expressing their reservations before yesterday's rally. If the rally had turned violent, they would probably have voted for an AWB. The fact that it didn't turn violent means that the legislative calculation did not change. Which, I suppose, is a good thing.

Committees can be where bills go to die.
Let's remember that Saslaw had a close call in last year's primary election. (In his district, winning the Democratic primary is tantamount to winning the general election.) His primary opponent would have been worse on guns than Saslaw, but she would have had zero seniority and therefore no leadership position or plum committee assignment.

So, if you don't have a viable pro-gun candidate where you are (in my area, all the Democrats were running unopposed), at least vote strategically among the candidates that you do have. That may mean voting in the Democratic primary.

(Saslaw doesn't come up for re-election again until 2023.)

No one should have expected the rally to suddenly fix things. There is a political process that has to be followed. Keep the pressure on the Committees and the politicians that can afford to respond to our pressure instead of Northam's and vote our way when it counts. There is no genie's wish solution to these things. It is instead going to take real work to capitalize on the momentum from Jan 20.

Vote?
I’ve voted in every election except for one local one that was a special election that didn't matter.

I even vote in primaries. I’m toying with voting in the Dem primary, but I don’t want them showing up on my door, and I don’t like any of their candidates.

I’m grateful all of my representatives at the state level are pro 2A

I’m with you. I try to get people to vote.
And I do contact my reps via phone, email, and in person.

Recall petition is the answer!
Can you just recall a governor in your state because you dislike his or her policies? Seems to me that's what the general election is for.

We're in the early stages of a recall campaign in my state, but here, the recall campaign has to prove that the governor broke a law or did something unethical to be allowed to have a recall vote. We can't recall a governor just because he is unpopular. (That may be a good or bad thing, or both, but I wont get into it here.)

We would expect anything from someone outside VA that doesn't have frequent work in VA is wasted bits on these people and can do more harm than good (how many idiots sent emails that could be interpreted as threatening and helped Northam build his wall?) unless you can make a compelling argument that they care about AND you have some "hook" or relationship to them.

If you don't live or work in VA the best thing to do is stay on VCDL's emails and support them and those that might need legal assistance or who may be working on Recalls. VCDL is going to need a legal fund for more than just challenging these absurd useless bills when Northam signs them.

This^ We need to keep up the pressure! Some bad bills passed the senate and now are heading to the delegates for consideration. Remind your legislators they represent you and not Fairfax, Richmond, or outside money.
