I seen the Sub-X bullets on the shelf locally yesterday. I passed them up because I have about 100 factory rounds. The price was $22 per 100. Online, I see they are listed at mid $30s or more. And out of stock. Now I'm thinking I should go back and buy them.

Hornady claims they will expand down to 900 fps.
I have only shot 1 box of 20. They fed cycled through my AR pistol with no issues.
 
That is the first time I have seen them for sale as a component. I would definitely snag them. I personally would like to see some more tests or field reviews on this bullet before I put it into use, but providing it performs well, it would be something of great interest for me.

I misspoke in my 1st post. I posted the price locally as $22 per 100. I must have looked at the price for .224" bullets right above them. Duh! The price locally is basically what your price was from MidwayUSA. But I had a $10 coupon to use for my birthday.
 
I have been testing these now. Initially ordered two boxes from midway USA after shooting 3 boxes of factory loaded ammo and I have 300 more projectiles arriving tomorrow. So far they are way better than the Lehigh defense 194gr maximum expansion which are over $1.20 per projectile. Here are my testing results thus far. More to come:

 
I bought a couple boxes of the Sub-X when it first came out. It was supersonic from my 16-inch gun. It was subsonic in my 9-inch pistol. Terminal performance was not as good as I expected. Shooting water jugs the bullets lost more mass then I would have expected from just water. They also did not expand uniformly just sort of mushed on one side then tumbled.

I have been using Maker Bullets 220gr REX for 300 BO hunting bullets. Still expensive but I am loading it for ~$1 a round and the terminal performance had been excellent.

I used Hornady's "contact us" last Thursday about any load test they may have done. I began to doubt whether I entered in my correct email address. But I got an email from them today.
Their response is that they are currently testing loads for the 190 gr. Sub-X bullet, and will be available very soon. And when they are complete, it will be posted on their website under the load data section.

I just got back from 2 weeks of travel so no new news. Work really screws up my fun time. All the latest videos are on my youtube channel. I did manage just yesterday to change to the Wilson Combat barrel I have so next set of tests will be with the new barrel to see what we see!
 
I have some Hornady factory loads but after using the Nosler on a buck this season, I'm leaning in that direction. I just have an aversion to Hornady's bullets.
 
Headed to the range today with 3 loads using the 190’s.
Good news, they grouped well at 25 yards. Indoors is all I had for now. Used 1680 at 10.5, 11 and 11.5 grains at 2.068 C.O.L. Will get a new chronograph and check speed again upon its arrival. Will do longer range work when weather warms up and outdoor ranges become available.

Bad news, my chronograph gave up the ghost and wouldn’t register.

I'm really tempted to put some in my WSM...better call Hornady first to make sure they'll tolerate the forces they'd be subjected to.
 
I’m just about ready to load subsonic Sub-x and 190 Nosler custom competitions. My first attempt at reloading. Some questions. First, can I use the same starting weight to work up loads in these different length projectiles? Second what types of crimps? Taper or none on the smooth Nosler? Roll with the cannelure of the Hornady? Very light for 8.3 and 9” pistol gas ARs?

Going to try CFEBLK first. Dedicated suppressed guns. Soft shooters with the A5 buffer system. No hiccups with 150-220 gr so far with or w/o can.

As for crimping, I'm going to apply a light crimp at the cannelure. It probably doesn't need it, as I just seated my round with the 190 gr. last night for the setup. Neck tension is good. I'm using the Lee crimp die.
