Carrying the K6

I bought a Kimber K6 some time ago.

i am not really a fan of five shot revolvers with trigger pulls that are difficult for me, and I realized that not long after having started with one for concealed carry.

I prefer flat semi-autos with good triggers and longer sight radii.

And I do not like the idea of a "carry rotation".

But as a fan of the old Colt Detective Special, I see a place for six shot revolvers with good triggers.

So I bought the Kimber.

I found it heavy for pocket carry, so I ordered a really good leather IWB holster for it.

I found it uncomfortable--I have back issues. Also, the short grip made the draw difficult.

So it stayed in a drawer in the computer room, where I am likely to sit in pajamas.

Enough. I found that Crossbreed has an OWB holster with leather backing for it.

Ordered and received!

Altamont makes grips that provide more finger support.

Ordered, received, and installed!

Now I can carry it when I choose.

The Galco combat master is also a nice OWB holster. The factory grip fits my hand very well so I didn’t need to hunt for grips thankfully.

I have a Galco Combat Holster for 3" LCRx.. great holster!

I also have a leather Azula IWB that I found uncomfortable until I discovered a different way of wearing it. I tuck the holster between my belt and my pants and let the barrel slide into my front jeans pocket. Very comfortable and very concealable.

I put the slightly larger factory grip on my 2" Kimber and it made all the difference in shooting. I have not tried any of the Altamonts although I have been a huge fan of their grips for my S&W's for a long time. Priced reasonable and the quality is great. They will also work with you and alter standard grips if you need something a little special.

I can't really do IWB either. Back problems, too. If I carry a SS revolver (rarely but done just to see), I used an OWB leather holster. The gun was a 3 inch SW 632 J frame.

I use this with a Colt cobra(first edition). Very comfortable

Glad you managed to make it work for you. A lack of a larger grip is a big part of why I haven't bit yet.

I'm more or less happy with what I have, but the notion of a compact little 357 like the K6 is very appealing. I wish someone made a grip that covered up the backstrap without extending the grip. I need meat on the grip, not length.

When I got the K6, it was because I carefully observed the snubbie market, and intended to buy only one.
Till the K6 came out, I was having difficulty, finding a 6 shot, .357, with good sights, and a good trigger, all in brushed stainless.

After 2 years with the gun, IMO,
the cost is justified. It has been faultless in performance. It gives you the option of carrying a couple ratshot, which, IME, come in handy, around the property. All in all, if you can afford it, and the 80$ additional, for real grips, to Altamont, this is one handy CC.

I carry a 5 shot .357 SW m649 J frame appendix using a clip draw. I find it very comfortable and pretty fast. It maybe even more comfortable with the K6.

I like the way the mixed the use of polymer and leather to take advantage of each materials best features. I am a bit surprised at the size of the leather backing/mounting plate

Learn. What folks like to see is a pic of a gun that belongs to someone in their holster against a background where we have an idea of size, wear, fit etc. This helps get an idea of size of the rig in relation to the gun and relative size of the overall piece. A factory pic of a holster, against a blue background or floating in space really don't mean much.

It's like a fella saying they have big hands. To prove it they post a pic of their hand against a blue sky. No info there. But post a pic of the hand swallowing a Glock 19 and I'll have an opinion.

Well OK. I don't think anyone is demanding that you do. Folks are saying that in a discussion of guns and holsters it's nice to see some pics.

We are not discussing an original Paterson revolver or a rare French Army pin-fire.

The revolver, the grips, and holster are stock factory items, machine made. Pics are available from numerous sources.

Ok you don't want to post pics of your guns and don't think anyone else should. After all there is google and I can find a pic of a gun, a pic of a holster, a pic of whatever and get a 12 year old to photo shop them all together.

You may notice though that on gun forums and in gun magazines and books that there are often pics of guns and gun accessories. In fact whole threads devoted to pictures of guns and holsters and etc. There are a few on this forum. Many people on gun forums enjoy seeing pics of guns.

A lot of times it's very helpful to us forumites particularly when folks want to show a gunsmithing trick or a custom modification. Or heaven forbid just want to show off their new gun or gun and rig, vintage or otherwise.

It's not unusual or rude for people to ask to see pics. It's heck-a-common. It's part of the fun.

I did not take it as rudeness.

I simply do not post files i have created when I cannot tell what data remain in them and what do not, and what may be decipherable by others.

It's a personal thing. Camera and photo management software are so complex that I find them daunting--not like silver halide.

I am happy that Driftwood Johnson feels otherwise.

That's a good looking revolver. That clip is a great idea. I can't see how I could attach it to my SP101 without some drilling and tapping. Not sure I'm willing to do that.

Thanks! They make a universal version that attaches with some type of adhesive. That maybe an option.
