First thread. Missouri reloading hi-tec coating

I have used MBC coated in .45, .44, and 9mm. No complaints. They seem consistent in size and they do not lead (for me). I also like Acme Bullets coated bullets a lot. I use them for .45 and 9mm but use MBCs for my .44s.

Missouri is a great product. So is Brazos bullets. So is SNS casting. So is Bayou. All have some different selections, so pick a bullet weight and profile and use any of these with confidence. I haven't tried Acme, but have heard good things there. Lots of choices.

Had some issues with one lot of MBC coated, but they made it right. Otherwise high quality product. I personally prefer conventional cast/lubed for .357. The ACME 125 TC (at .38-.38+P speeds) is my do-all plinking bullet. It's a little harder than the MB 125, so a bit more versatile for me. The Missouri 158 SWC in magnum alloy is a good fit for .357 mid-power loads. No leading. Once I use up my existing stock of Penn 158, I will be going back. I've used both Missouri and ACME 9mm 121-125 TC coated with no issues to full power loads in several 9mms. IMHO, the ACME product looks a little "cleaner," but can find no difference on the scale or targets.

I use MBC, ACME, and Brazos, they all shoot great and haven't had any problems with leading at all even with velocities up to 1100+

+1 for MBC. Great people to work with! They offer 12 and 18 brn. I prefer uncoated 12 brn for my use - 9mm, 38/357, 38-40, 44 mag, 45 acp——-
Matter of fact I actually prefer 7 brn, but it’s really hard to find!
There is also Oregon Trail. I think they run 22 brn.

Missouri is great. I have put a 158 grain coated bullet in a 35 rem casse with 10 grains of unique with no leading, so I would not hesitate with the 3030.

Welcome to the forum and this madness of reloading your own. I get very good results with all the Missouri Bullet offerings and their pricing is reasonable. Don't forget the 5% discount for THR members either.
FWIW both are great to deal with and both offer members here a discount. Dosen't get any better than this IMO.

I have loaded several thousand Hi-tec MBCO bullets. They arent prone to lead and produce about half the smoke. I'll never by uncoated again.

I'm a huge fan of Missouri Coated Bullets. Great quality and a large selection in both 38/357 and 44 mag/spl. I've ran them over 1600 fps and not had any noticeable leading. Another great thing about Missouri is they offer 100 round trial packs. Gives you the opportunity to try different bullets without having to buy a huge quantity. SNS casting is a close 2nd. Quality is just as good. Not quite the selection. The cheapest I've found is Summers Enterprises. Their coating is rougher looking, but I can't see where it affects accuracy at all. Downside is limited selection but great personal service and the fastest shipping of any. Personally I can's see why anyone would not use coated. The cost is not much different and the cleaner loading and shooting makes it a bargain in my book. The only Uncoated lead I still use is Zero HBWC and even though it is the most accurate bullet up to 25 yards in .38 special I have ever shot, after I run through the last thousand I have now, I'll probably sacrifice the accuracy and go coated all the way.

I really like their bullets in general. The coated ones hold up to velocity very well.

Missouri Bullet Co (MBC) does a really good job with their bullets and offerings (including multiple sizes). When compared to ACME**, the Hi-Tek coating appears to be on the thin side, but I've never experienced any leading from MBC coated bullets when properly loaded. They also offer THR members a discount.

Bullets for 38Spcl are going to be the easiest to start with. The faster you shoot lead, the more careful you need to be with bullet fit and powder selection. So 9mm and then 357M may have a longer learning curve. Slug your barrels and order the correct size bullets.

Reasoning for that statement? I'm curious because I use a lot of ACME 9 & 45.

The finish on ACME look nothing like the MBC. The ACME is a solid, opaque color, whereas the MBC is translucent.

Either that or they add some pigment to get the red “lipstick” color.

There's a brick red Hi-Tek. It's bright red and opaque.
