By the serial number, it would be a 1956-1957 gun, but Model 19's didn't ever have the S Prefix. In .357 Magnum, it would be a Model 27 or 28.
A Model 19 in that era would have a K prefix

By serial number technically would be a .32 Hand Ejector. 3rd Models ran from 1911-1942. Yours would be post war, but I am pretty sure it is the same gun as the 3rd Model.
You have to do some math Serial numbers 536685-712953 ran from 1946-1960. I would guess yours maybe 1947-1949. It would be a guess how many were made each year, but that
sort of narrows it down some.

I have 3 older smith and wesson revolvers from my fathers collection that I could use a hand identifying. The first one:
a) can't find a marking for this
b) 3 1/2 ""
c) round
d) 5
e) fixed
f) 217170
g) can't find one. there is a set of patent dates on the top of the barrel . The first seem to be may 14, 1880.

this one has even less markings than the prior one. Only indication that it may be a smith and wesson is the marking on the grips.

Out of nowhere, this one was given to my friend when his wife's grandfather passed away. No original box, but the firearm is in wonderful shape. Is this a 3" registered magnum by chance?

That is a Pre-27 shipped in 1956. Did you measure from the cylinder to end of barrel. Should be 3.5" They started with model numbers in 1957. If interested in selling, shoot me a pm.
That's my birth year. I would really like to have a pre 27 from 1956

I think I'm right on my research for your first 2 guns. This is a 38 Safety Hammerless 4th Model in 38 S&W Caliber. Should be a 3.25" Barrel. Probably shipped in 1907 give or take a year.

This is a 38 Safety Hammerless 3rd Model also in 38 S&W Caliber with a 3.25" Barrel. Grips look like replacements. Should have hard rubber like the first gun. Should have shipped around 1893-95

As soon as I saw "1956", my eyes also lit up, since that is also a birth year gun for me. I guess that you have "first dibs".

I apologize. I gave you the wrong info on the model with the hammer. I was looking at several guns and got two mixed up. Your gun with the hammer is a .38 Double Action 3rd Model.
These were manufactured 1884-1895 Serial number range from 119001-322700. 3.25" Barrel and it does have correct grips. Sorry for the mix up. It really is in great shape to be well over 100 years old. Amazing they made over 200,000 of this model alone.

Don't lump all big Smith topbreaks under "Schofield". Schofields were .45 with the patent top latch.
No 18473 looks like a No 3 Second Model Single Action, made only 1872-1874.
