Got to handle one of these today and was deeply impressed. Fit and finish was as good as I have ever seen on a production firearm... and better than some high-end customs I've handled. Ergonomics are great, and the front sight comes up perfectly when I come on target. It's a remarkably svelte gun for a 5" barrel semi-auto. The action was glass-smooth and the trigger pull was excellent. If it shoots as well as it looks and handles, and by all accounts so far it does, this could easily become my favorite. It'd be quite easy for me to EDC this gun in an IWB holster. Magazines are a bit spendy, but not ridiculous, and it comes with two to start.

I can pick one up for $1050 plus tax, which is damned expensive on my budget, but I am seriously considering doing just that. I can't recall ever being so impressed with a new firearm.

I regret not buying one at our gun show about 6 months ago. But it was THE most coon fingered gun of the show and that just bothered me. I mean every time I walked by it there there were 2-3 guys pawing at it and more waiting to so as well. I have not seen another since, but I’ll be ready when I do.

MTP, are you going to work your magic and build some new grips for it?

That's the same impression I had of the gun. Wonderful trigger, great ergos, though I handled one with the target grips, and excellent fit and finish. I'd like to bring one home also, but I don't know if I'll be able to swing it any time soon.

I believe the target grips, and I think these "standard" ones are all done by Nill Grips.

I own two sets of Nill Grips for use on L frame S&W revolvers. They make an outstanding product, and the checkering they do is great. Their stippling is even better in my opinion. Very grippy stuff and very ergonomic.

The P210A Standard is outstanding, but two things keep me from getting one: the lack of a path towards optics and the single-stack magazine. It's basically useless for any competition beyond Steel Challenge. An adapter exists for optics on Target slides, made Armory Craft. But it takes away the rear sight and sits absurdly high.

Personally not worried about optics, and for Action Shooting International competition the low capacity magazine isn't really an issue and almost all stages include a mandatory reload.

I've owned P210s on and off since the '80s. "Svelte" is exactly the word I would use to describe them. I guess there are more practical pistols for about any purpose, but I still like the 210s, whether Swiss, German or American.

I've had my American version for a couple of years, and I think they are worth the asking price. Barrel/slide/frame fit is just as precise as the Swiss and German guns, and the trigger on mine breaks cleanly at just under 3 1/2#.

We had a long debate on this forum recently about these guns, and some felt that they simply couldn't be as ACCURATE (or precise) as the older models. Anyone done any accuracy evaluations?

When I had a P-210-6, it came with a proof target showing a 1.7" group at 50 meters (approx. 55 yards). I could never shoot any gun that well at that distance, as I don't have a Ransom Rest. 20-25 yards is about my limit. (I'm think SIG used a Ransom Rest.)

I've seen a bunch of proof targets for P-210 that were smaller than 1.7" -- and mine seemed to be a tack driver at the closer distances I could handle.

Yes. Q/12131 on the SIG forums shot Swiss, German and American versions at 25 yards. No Ransom rest. Some groups with the US version were an inch or less. The American version did hold it's own against the other versions.

Don't think too long about it....Sig has discontinued the standard model.

It looks like SIG has discontinued a bunch of stuff, I just noticed about half of their 1911’s are gone from their site when I was looking around on there. Hopefully they keep the target P210 around for a while as I really want one. I’d hate to have it gone after only a couple of years as that will affect mag prices and such and I intend on using it and not having it sit in the safe.
