I have a friend who wants to sell one cheap. I've never owned one, seen a few and IIRC they have a pretty decent reputation. Barrel appears to be about 20" long with full length mag tube and rifle sights. The rear sight elevator is missing, but that should be easy to replace. I'd guess 1970's, maybe 1960's manufacture. Wood appears to have been refinished at some point. Not a professional job, but I've seen a lot worse. No rust, just looks like it could use a good cleaning.

I really don't need it, but it has to be worth $100 right.

Sounds like something like a K102 riot gun with the rifle sights.
Could the barrel maybe closer to 18 inches - though some were 20 as well.
How about sling swivels?

A High Standard riot or Flite King in good shape is certainly worth $100.

Todd.

It may have been 18". I just looked at it briefly. It looks like it may have had swivels but it appears they were removed and not replaced when the wood was refinished.

They were 18 and 20 inch both due primarily the ease of getting the 18 inters into and out of police cars.

Swivels shouldn't be a big deal if it had them and you want to replace them.

Too, in case it's an old GI gun rather than Cop, look to see an Ordnance Department stamp on the barrel ahead of the receiver. No big deal, just worth a bit more.

If decent I would jump on it for $100. I love my circa 1968 purchased High Standard 12 ga. Flite King and they are very well known for the smoothness of the actions. I can point that gun up at a 45 degree angle, hit the slide release and it will open the action by itself. How many pump shotguns can do that ? The only downside I have read about is that by the mid 1970's or so High Standard was in trouble financially and some of the shotguns had some quality control issues. But I read that on the internet so who knows? Sounds like a great deal according to the description given.

Rifle sights and swivels cold be a Flite King Riot or Flite King Brush. Some variation made in the K-101, K-102, K-1200 and K-120 series. Most Riot models had 18.00", 18.13", or 20.00" barrels while the Brush models had 18.13", 20.00", or 26.00" barrels. A good number were sold to police departments but there were no Government orders. Some samples were sent to the government but none accepted and the samples were returned.

The Riot models were made from about 1961 through February 1977. There are a lot of stories on the net and should be disregarded unless you know and trust the source. Quality degradation was basically a lower level of polish and choice of stock wood.

I have a JC Higgins model 20 which is the Sears rebranding of a High Standard model 200. The action is very smooth and she works just fine. I did have an odd failure where the roll pin that retains the firing pin worked it's way out and jammed the firing pin. Might just have been age, but I was able to get the gun apart and tap in a new roll pin. Still works mint.
Moral: Take it apart when you buy it and give her a good through once-over.

I've been debating pulling the adjustable choke and shortening the barrel for a more home defense minded gun. The 28" barrel is pretty unwieldy and I don't hunt.

High Standard was known for their rimfire pistols, but their shotguns were actually quite good, and their riot guns were well regarded.

if it’s in good shape, $100 is a best friend price. $200 would be more “fair”.

I picked up an old 60's Supermatic deluxe semi-auto 20 gauge from a gunshop a few years back that is branded as a Revelation 425. Whoever had it before me must have tried to shoot it with the selector put in the wrong position with some high brass... It must have jammed up, as it had been taken apart and put back together incorrectly (the gas port can get covered up if you are not paying attention when you put the selector shutter back on).

I bought it for $80 as a parts gun in pieces, put it back together, and it works a treat. Fits me just right, and runs nice and smoothly! Has ducks engraved on the side and looks almost brand new, too. Really nice shotgun.
