It's not in the wind here in Terre Haute, Indiana; the run's begun.
There's a locally owned LGS big store with indoor ranges that normally has several yards of bulk ammo stacked anywhere from knee to waist high on the display floor -- 380, 9, 40, 45, 5.56, 7.63 x 39 and .308.
Their stock was halved, or more, in the last few days. Talked to a clerk there, who said it's a been a bit nuts since Wednesday.
I picked up about 1,100 rounds of this and that on Saturday, not because I'm hoarding but because I shot easily that amount in early March. Just wanted to retop.
Personally, I'm good and am going to play it like some others here ... not buying during a craze.

If someone reading this thread is in need of ammo, here is what you can do:
Without looking, I'll bet you can obtain plenty of 40 S&W ammo, stock up on 40 ammo then get a Glock 22/23/27 or Shield 40.
Ammo problem solved.
Do it now, before everybody makes a run on 40 S&W.
You're welcome.

LOL ... when the run on .40 begins, we'll know we're in end times.

SG still has(had) .40S&W last night, I believe it’ll move a little slower because it’s more expensive.

Personally I’m or was planning to add to my pile in Aug so I’ve got a few months for this to either settle or go bust, either way I’m good for awhile.

I’m not loading up on 40 because I already went down that road in November and December. Hit the Walmart close out and Academy black packs. Bought 2k rounds plus bullets and dies from Midway. One of the few things I’ve ever timed right because I’m terrible at anything to do with investing. I bet many others have done the same at the end of ‘19.

I was looking on SGammo a couple hours ago at some 10 mm and thought I'd order some later on. I started reading this thread and thought to check back and multiple brands of 10 were sold out including the one I was going to buy! I ended up ordering 500 JHPs while I still could.

I don't (mostly) see this as panic buying, not at first.
Ok, so, imagine having, say three weeks off work. What could "our" community do that allows for a 2m separation between participants, and gets us out of the house to beat cabin fever?
Well, not most indoor ranges, but outdoor ones would be ok (sunlight is the best way to stock up on reserves of vitamin D, which is anti-viral). I mean, really, no sports on, and little or no interest in Days of our Lives, what better to do?

Sadly, we humans are herd creatures, and instead of hearing "buy a couple boxes for a range trip, they heard "buy all ammo now!"

That's probably everyone from Champaign coming up in a panic after the mayor's emergency declaration. Not sure why, no one is talking about banning gun or ammo sales, not the government anyway. But those are powers that could be exercised under the emergency order so some have taken to the internet to whip up fervor. As far as it being a widespread run on ammo....doesn't look like it. Think this is more of a local thing
As far as gun stores and ranges being busy...yeah I can see that. Kids are out of school, lots of folks working from home, I'm down to go to the range. Actually, if we're off next week (doubt it) I'm definitely going to get some trigger time in

I'm seeing it as "Folks with a lot of time on their hands, suddenly, going shooting, now they have the chance.".

Cabela's in Columbus Ohio was out of 9mm at 2pm this afternoon. 223 was getting thin. Stock guy said all others were ok. Glad I don't own anything in those calibers though.
Side note: Fin Feather Fur in Milan Ohio had piles of 9mm. Guy at the gun desk said he's taken 5 calls since Friday from people who have never owned a gun asking what they need to bring with them to buy a gun. THAT is scary.

I was at Palmetto State Armory today where I belong to the range. The store was pretty busy, both guns and fishing. There was plenty of ammo, but they may have had limits. The range was not that busy. There was lots of gun buying. Among reasons sited above, there may be some income tax return money being spent.

Well I have LE turn in M&P in .40cal on order from PSA. I thought about waiting to pick it up and getting ammo from the LGS. I decided to order some cheapo Targetsports just in case they are out when I go to pick it up. 200 rds of aluminium case Independence, if the LGS has the good stuff when I go I'll get a few boxes

Sg ammo and target sports reporting shipping delays of 14 and 10 days respectively. Midway reporting shipping delays. Definitely some panic buying going on.

I'm short on 308 and 6.8SPC ammo, the rest I should be fine for a bit. I'm a little low on 380 and 9mm Largo, only about half a 30 cal. ammo can of each. I have a full 30 cal can each of 9mm, 40, 45, and 223 (all reloaded ammo).
Do you reload or buy fresh 9mm Largo, just curious.

I am ahead on the guns and ammo shortages. At least for a couple of calibers.

About a month ago I got a wild hair and brought a Ruger Wrangler. I did not have a particular reason. Something gave me a urge to buy it. It may have been in part that I was tired of waiting for my LGS to get a bronze one in.

I also brought two Ruger SR22 magazines so something was giving me itch.

However I have a itch left for a Taurus TX22. I was looking forward to the Gun Show this weekend but it got cancelled.

Then two weeks ago I brought 1k of .223 62 gr. FMJ. I have a particular AR-14, er,15 that will not shoot 55 gr. bullets accurately so I want to test it with heavier bullet. I just don’t need 1k of rounds to determine it’s accuracy. 10 rounds will tell me what I want to know.

I have been buying 22 L.R. when I catch it on sale. I just did a inventory and I have 9,907 rounds in unopened boxes. I didn’t count the open boxes.

Well I foresee another panic coming in August.

I don't why people would ammo and gun panic buy over the virus, fact is if you are sick you won't be able to go shooting, and if it gets bad best to stay away from ranges for a while anyway.

I bought a bunch of supplies, food, pet supplies and so on last week for the virus, I saw the writing on the wall. As far as ammo I started buying cases lately as of last week in prep for the election buying spree that no doubt will hit and I had already started stocking since late last year.

Really, after the 2012-13 nuttiness, anyone who's truly low either had a financial constraint or a lack of foresight.
Not trying to be harsh, but that stretch was absolutely ridiculous. And if anyone failed to take note ...

my local gun shop said they were sold out of 9mm ammo, and that this was the single biggest time of both ammo and gun sales they've ever seen...been in business for years... what's the deal? do people think that they're going to get robbed for toilet paper and hand sanitizer? Is it that they believe the market will crash, and full blown collapse? Or is it that they just don't have a gun and are buying for the first time? I don't know. I don't get it... and I really don't get the whole toilet paper thing... There have been plenty of times I've wiped with leaves, and we all were fine before toilet paper existed. It helps in no way with this virus... I'm confused...

Maybe everyone thinks we will be invaded by some foreign enemy while our defenses are down. I don't know, but its the beginning of a very weird year.
