Getting down right scary

Crazy times. The LASO Sheriff had flip flopped on the gun shops being declared as essential businesses. The local shop that I checked on is only processing pick-up's of previously purchased guns. No new sales are being done. The local Walmart had long gun ammo on the shelf, .223, 5.56, 308, 45-70 and variety of 20 and 12 ga. I was hoping for some 12 ga 00 or slugs but nope, mostly birding loads like #7.5 and #8.

My local B-Mart only has bulk 380. and 22.lr for pistols, some rifle ammo, lots of 12 gauge shotgun ammo. The pistol display is about 2/3rds empty, and about 1/3 for their long guns.

Don’t give up the hunt though. Before all this rush started the wife wanted an M&P 40, and I was hoping to find a single stack RIA 10mm. The RIA just wasn’t around for the last few months.
Then, on Friday, I found a small hardware store with a gun counter that had a M&P that had been sitting there for weeks. And they also had the 10mm RIA that I had been looking for.
So, hunt the small stores and especially check the hardware stores. You might get lucky!

In times of distress I’d adhere to the old policy, if you don’t possess it you don’t own it.

Needless to say no way am I ordering guns online, two weeks ago I did but now is a whole new world.

The only thing I'd be concerned with is whether or not someone is at the FFL location to accept shipment so it doesn't bounce back & forth.

Not being able to complete the transfer at the FFL because the shop is not open to the public should just be a waiting game if it has at least been delivered.

Todd.
I may be totally uninformed, but I have only had guns shipped in to 3 shops. All 3 of those had a storefront address, but listed a P.O. Box for incoming shipments for transfers. It made things easy for them, and I just assumed most, of not all shops did the same. The frustrating thing with my current neighborhood shop is that the store is closed on Mondays and that’s when he goes to the P.O. Box, and only goes through the week if he has an opportunity to do so while out running errands at lunch (he has to close his store to do so). All of the guns I have shipped to him end up at the P.O. Box on a Tuesday and he generally gets to them Friday or Saturday, but one had to wait a whole week until picked up Monday evening and I was able to receive on Tuesday.

It avoids all the back and forth mess.

The gun shops around me are still open and getting in ammo.
My hometown does have a 5pm curfew. So there’s pretty much nothing open after 5.
No kidding? A frickin curfew? Lubbock hasn't thought of that yet.

No kidding? A frickin curfew? Lubbock hasn't thought of that yet.
It’s turned out that the people in my area are pretty much going about their lives.
The curfew pretty much turned into a request and not an order. Restaurants have been open for delivery and take out much later then 5pm.
My mechanic that is just up the road, just opened today. He told me that he would have stayed open but his employees were scared and didn’t want to work so, he closed for two weeks.

I had a a similar issue. My FFL had an office in a closed business so couldn’t take delivery of the pistol. I used gunbrokers FFL search to find another local FFL that was open. It took the USPS 4 or 5 Daly longer to shop than normal, but no problem after that.

All those people standing in lines remind me of Marines standing in line at skivvy houses in Kin Village Okinawa.

That reminds me of a former marine I used to work with who had an interesting story about a situation gone awry in the Phillipines. Thanks for reminding me of my friend.

guns stores are open where I am in florida. now getting what ya want.......good luck. very slim pickins.

there is a fella down here from michigan working for the spring and summer.......hes from the part near chicago and indiana. he calls people from those areas that vacation in his part of michigan "fip's. " I wont break it down as it isnt so nice, but funny. he calls home and they tell him gloom and doom up there compared to here. so I guess it is that bad. not saying here is joyous, just not as bad as his family tells him up there.

hopefully ya get your revolver. good luck on the hunt to get it to an open ffl or one who will hold it for ya.

OP, when you do finally get that Taurus please do a review of it after you've had a chance to work it over.

I couldn’t be more pleased with this revolver, very lightweight, 6 round cylinder.
SA the trigger breaks easy and DA a little harder break(but comfortable).
There are only 2 things that I really don’t like,
1. Obviously the cylinder is larger than the M85(5 vs 6 shots), it’s really hard to find a decent concealment holster(I don’t enjoy IWB), but I’ll eventually find one.
2. Shooting +P loads, the grip is thinner than I was expecting and again it’s a very lite weight revolver, It’ll leave your palm knowing recoil isn’t your friend.
I’m looking at a set of thicker rubber grips to compensate.
Overall, I’m going to buy another.

No, things are not "that bad." Your governor is busy illustrating the saying, "Scratch a Liberal, Find a Fascist."

The naked lust for power is incredible to behold.

Know what you mean. When our little Hitler closed down the state she told everyone that saw someone not following her orders to call in and they would do something about it. We have found that a lot of rats live among us. Gunshops were declared non-essential and ours had a police visit to close them down but the farm and ranch store that sells firearms and ammo on the other end of town was allowed to remain open. Then the gunshop was allowed to reopen. Other than people not gathering in large groups people here are pretty much going about their business. We have had no c-virus deaths and no one deathly ill from it either. Local law enforcement is having nothing to do with her orders and said it's up to the state police to handle this.

man that's rough.

Up here in Northern CA, my local shop is mostly business as usual. Ammo is a little scarce but they are doing their best to keep it stocked.
I buy something every time i go in to kinda... help them along as I appreciate the lengths they are going through to serve the community.

I guess when this all started the owner called our County Sheriff and asked if they were closing. Sheriff response was along the lines of "of course you're staying open!"

I didn't think shipping to a P.O. was allowed? Thought it had to be a "Physical Address"?

Our LG Stores in SE PA are open, selling guns and ammo, and processing FFL Docs only for their gun sales. No individual transfers or Internet sales transfers. Ranges are closed. Only ten people in store at one time (lines waiting to get in. Looks like things will get better here in mid May as restrictions will start to lift. I am just happy that things are not worse.

Here in SW Idaho (and the rest of the state as far as I know), gun shops and stores that sell ammo have been declared "essential" businesses. Personally, I think all businesses are essential, especially to the owners and employees of those businesses. We're supposed to get some relief from this nonsense in May. I hope so. What really puzzles me is the few states which didn't have a so-called quarantine or shutdown don't have any problems with the phony virus. Just like the rest of us if our "leaders" hadn't bought the BS from the drones in DC.

Run the numbers yourself, taking into account that EVERY death even remotely touching COVID is being classified as COVID death...which we don't do for the flu or for any other disease....Yes, the same flu that reportedly killed 57,000 Americans last year and 79,000 the year before that. The same flu for we have had tests and vaccines for many decades, which clearly isn't the answer. LA County is reporting 89%+ of deaths associated with COVID are people with compromised systems due to advanced age or chronic illness. These are the same ones that every communicable disease or illness attacks first and hits the hardest..always has, always will.

I have been doing this for weeks, and I think I have a better chance of being hit by lightning while holding a winning lottery ticket than dying, or even being hospitalized, by COVID-19. So do 99.99980% of all Americans....(Estimated to date by CDC as 60,000 out of 300,000,000) and 99.9999984% of Americans who aren't in the highest risk brackets or in a nursing home (6,200 out of the same 300,000,000).

Now our imperial governor is throwing a tantrum because people went to the beach when it was 98 degrees outside last weekend... and today it's reported he wants to force a state closure of city owned beaches. I can't wait to watch the CHP being forced to trundle around the sand chasing off people when the locals tell their police force to leave people alone.

My two most recent gun purchases are now 1 day delayed by the DOJ, it's been 11 days since I filled out and my FFL sent in my paperwork to start my 10-day waiting period. The DOJ claims they have 30 days in which to perform the background check, which isn't true. The statute says if that can't do their job in 30 days then the gun is transferred to the buyer, whether it's completed or not. That's a big difference.. but hey, it's a pandemic.

Man, I can't wait for the range to open again. :(

Stay safe.

Just won a Taurus 856UL off of Gunbroker, paid for it and had my LGS send the FFL info so it can be shipped here, now my favorite store is closed, the other FFL close to me has been closed for 3 days now.
I live in a very rural part of Michigan, are things really that bad?
Here in the 'people's republic of Boulder', the one LGS is deemed 'essential', and is open. I go pickup my new Mossberg MVP today, well, at least go fill out the 4473...

'That bad'..lots closed, people staying away from each other..
