has anyone loaded any 38 special with Hodgdon Lil Gun?

I have a box of 38 Cal Sierra Sports Master 170 gr JHC0

1lb of Lil Gun

brick of small rifle primers

just got my reloading room put together, stuff unpacked, ordered up a whole bunch of stuff last week for my 30-06 and 308 which is what I usually only load for, but I'm starting to get reload fever and would like to roll a few rounds

Can't find anything other than internet chatter on using lil gun in a 38 special

anyone know of any published load data?
or does anyone have a target/plink load that uses LilGun?

any help is appreciated
THANKS

I've not seen any loading data for Lil Gun in 38 Special cartridges.

Lil Gun powder is in the same range as 2400, IMR 4227, H110, and W296, it is more suitable to 357 Magnum, .410 Bore shotgun and such.

Yes, it could be done. If you have to ask how you should stick to published data. Not trying to be rude, the consequences of getting it wrong are too great.
Be safe.

I do have some numbers in my mind for charge grains, I was hoping to hear from someone who has personally done it and see if their load data jived with what I was thinking

My biggest concern would be the gun it'll be fired in, if it's a 357 mag, the biggest risk is the rounds finding their way to a gun only chambered for 38 sp. If the gun is indeed a 38 sp. I'd be concerned about the pressure exceeding the SAAMI spec. So it's a round and round. If the guns a 357 the load data your seeking is on hodgdons site for use in 357 cases. Even if properly scaled back for the smaller case the operating limits of the two cartridges are very different.

It's not a 357, it is a 38 special and thats what made me question attempting it, I think I will just put that idea to rest, I am just antsy that I finally got my reloading stuff unpacked and I am in the stage where I have the kool-aid, just not the sugar, I do have a few years worth of brass that needs prepared to catch up on so I will focus my time in that dept until the proper supplies arrive.

I do appreciate all the info and Thanks Alot

I can run it thru my quick load. But I'll bet it's not a good idea.
I use lil gun for my 221 and 450 BM rifles.

I'll check in the morning.

I have read on several forums of lil gun powder causeing damage to the throats of guns.
I had a pound of it and used a little bit of it and gave it away.

If you happen to be close to Utah County I’ll give you a pound of suitable powder...

I just wanted to ask, I will not be loading it in 38 spec, it does look like a bad idear, I have a few powders and primers and bullets on the way but as we all know shipping is very delayed, but I will hang tight and finish prepping all my brass I plan to re-roll.

I do appreciat the offer but I am nowhere near utah, Im in SW WA state in the sticks
