Some ome sneezed and just like that all the pistol ammo was poof and gone.
It was all the common stuff like 9mm, 38spl, 357, 380, 45acp.
Most but not all of the 44mag, no one wanted the 454 or the 45colt. I think the "forty five cult" either has a ton of ammo, manufacturs their own or both.
I don't think the local stores ever ran out of 5.7x28, not that it's super popular.
Didn't quite run out of 22lr here.
For 9mm it was real bad no one had any ammo, midway had no 9mm projectiles for a few days.
For long guns it was .223, 7.62xcommie and just about all the buckshot and slug shot gun ammo was gone but bird shot was still available.
A lot of the big rifle ammo stayed on the shelves, pretty much 30-30 and up.

How about for you?

The only ammo or reloading component I bought during this time was some 8lb containers of lead BB and lead T shot.

I don't buy in stores mostly online. It's cheaper got a box of Federal hst 9mm from Targetsportsusa yesterday. Still waiting on the 44 mag I ordered. Just paid for targetsports membership. Should pay for itself in a couple orders.

For some reason we had a good amount of .300 BO at the Atwood's...they cleaned out the pistol ammo at Cabela's everything but the .32-20 most of the 'hunting' ammo was left alone .30-30 .270 .30-06 seemed easier to find creedmore, 6.8 spc, .223, and 6.5 g went poof though.

I really don't want to get a black out rifle but there's a REALLY dumb voice in my head saying yes but no one else bought any maybe we should get a little at pistol for it.

Did I mention that the voice is dumb.

I found it interesting that when I went to look for reloading supply's, nothing for 5.56mm, 9mm, 45acp or 40 S&W. But I could buy 125 grn 357mag bullets. Small and large pistol primers and most all powders were gone.

I had bought 1k 9mm and 500 22 CCI at luckygunner by happenstance and glad it did. At least I got range ammo. Stocking up 22 for the kid.

Heard 22 will be out for a while once stock depletes. Guess it the least profitable and last to be made

Based on the volume of sales it's probably the most profitable, it's just demand is so high it's tough to keep up, especially when factories may be shut to stop the spread.

Locally I first noticed the 50 count boxes of .38 SP, .357 Magnum and the 20 count boxes of the budget .223/5.56 like Tul and Wolf. That was the second week of March. The following week it was panic city. Empty shelves everywhere although our local Academy was good at limiting sales to three boxes and restocked as quickly as possible.

The panic seems to be abated some here but I don't think it's completely over. Last week, before I self quarantined, I went to an LGS for an FFL transfer. Their ammo supply was definitely pre panic mode. Plenty of everything but like other places limiting the amount you can buy.

Just as with the last panic run on ammo, I can still find some 40 S&W, but little of any other handgun calibers.
This is precisely why I still have two guns that can shoot 40 S&W.
I just make sure I buy ammo when times are good so I don't have to worry. I buy it by the case of 1,000 at a time.

Same here, but it is still nice to have the odd duck that ammo can still be found for.
The thing about .40 tho is with all the cheap used trade ins more people own .40 than they did post Sandy Hook and there are people like you who have bought them to have something in a less popular caliber, so now even .40 is starting to be affected by these panic buys.

The next logical step is .32, .380, 9mm Mak, and maybe even .38 Super, .357 Sig and .45 GAP, but that ammo is more expensive.

Agreed.

Locally? Nothing for pistol. Absolutely nothing! Since Walmart stopped selling pistol ammo, that left one gun shop within 50 miles that was also a hardware/camping/outdoor clothing store.

They shut down last week.

Last I looked at Walmart, they had some .30-06, one box of .308, and some other hunting rifle calibers. Lots of shotgun shells.

So yeah, I have to drive 50 miles to even LOOK for ammo that is likely not there.

Which is why I reload and stocked up on components a while ago and have plenty for my level of shooting, or maybe a month's worth for a lot of avid shooters here.

I've only casually glanced at the Bass Pro ammunition aisle, and only at the pistol section. The last two times (the second being yesterday), there was plenty of .22WMR and .25ACP. The second time there was also some .32ACP. I bought nothing, and wasn't looking for anything. I do have guns in all three of those calibers.

I looked in the rifle section maybe two weeks ago and noticed it to be missing .223/5.56 and .30-30 Winchester, and a little weak on 7.62x39mm. Seemed like there was plenty of everything else.

22. lr and 380 is the most common where I am at, followed by 30-30, 30-06, 270, and a smattering of other. Lots and lots of 12 gauge though.
