Looking to get a new gun.

So I've already got a few firearms (three to be exact) all for self defense and SHTF scenarios but now that I've had time to think about it I feel the choice I made to but to Single Action Army replicas was a made in haste. Now I'm relatively well versed when it comes to weapons and am thinking that it would be a good idea to give one of my replicas back to the store or sell it for full price to anyone willing to buy it. (It has never even been fired and hasn't had any kind of work done to it so it's in brand new condition.) I'm thinking of replacing the single action with a Taurus Raging Bull for the sake of ammo versatility plus I can still shoot my single actions 45LC ammunition from it as well. Does anyone here have any exsperance with the Taurus Raging Bull or any other weapons they would think could be a good replacement for one?
 
The only Raging Bull I've shot was a good gun, but personally I agree with Nightlord40k and would pick a redhawk over it. If you still want a single action then there's always the ruger blackhawk but that would be a lot like your replicas so depending on why you are getting rid of one that might not work.
 
The Super Redhawk, that's a 44 magnum right? I thought about it but didn't want to have to get a third set of ammunition but I'll take a better look at it now.
 
Well for me the Single Action that I'm getting rid of has a very heavy hammer pull and instead found that I really don't need two of the same single actions. Honestly the only reason I considered the Raging Bull was ammo compatibility and versatility, I love the thought of having a portable shotgun in hand. But I now have two leads on other guns to look into.
 
New Super Blackhawks were just recently selling for $600 or so. I’ve seen used ones in 45LC with an unfluted cylinder. You can run hotter than normal ammo in these tanks. I’ve got a 44 Magnum that I’m thrilled with.

Ive owned a raging bull, raging judge, and a ruger toklat, (super redhawk variant). All are solid guns, and I would recommend any of them, though the judge variant is unnecessarily heavy.
 
I have to say that I'm probably not going to go with the Blackhawk because of the single action mechanism on it unless I can test the pull of it but even then I find myself gravitating towards a double/single action revolver. I already have a double action only for concealed carry and my single action for open carry. I will most definitely look into the Redhawk seeing as it has a DA/SA system.
 
Really? I never knew that's what dictated how hard it was to pull the hammer back. Hmmm, I'll have to see if I can get my single action slicked up some then. It's got a nice hammer so far but if I can make it even smoother then that would be an awesome blessing.
 
The single action revolvers you have are fun guns. So is the raging judge. I’m really having a hard time seeing what any of them have to do with SHTF, but to each their own.

I’m going to suggest something that goes in a different direction: a small caliber revolver in .22 or .32. You already have a carry pistol. You already have a big bore revolver. The logical addition is a gun for inexpensively hunting rabbits or practicing your shooting skills. The classic “kit gun”.

Personally, if I was ranking guns I’ve had by “SHTF-ness”, my single six or single seven would rank much higher than my Super BlackHawk.

My single six had cylinders for .22lr and .22mag meaning it’s relatively flexible, and good for plinking or small game. My Single Seven fired a variety of .32 rounds from .32 S&W up to .327mag meaning it wasn’t the cheapest gun to shoot but it was usable for everything from rabbits to self defense.
 
Honestly as much as I love the 22LR I just don't see it being viable in a life or death situation. If I was to go out and try to hunt something small then it would be great for me but I'm not a hunter sadly.

Hunting is a skill you can acquire. And not all life-or-death situations are gunfights.

And, anyway, you already have a life-or-death gun, your concealed carry gun. And you have fun bowling pin guns in your .45s. Going with something in .22lr will round out your capabilities. Drop one .45, add one .22lr, and you still have the same number of life-or-death guns you have today.

If .22lr doesn’t do it for you, that still leaves guns like the single-seven, Sp101 in .327, LCR(x) in .327, and countless guns in .32 H&R etc.. The .327 is in the same league as .45 colt against humans and all of those can be brought down to very good plinking/rabbit loads. Add some basic reloading equipment and they aren’t a lot more expensive to shoot than .22mag. Which is another good choice...a .22mag revolver or pistol is a step up from .22lr but still better than .45 for many uses.
 
The two New Vaqueros are in 38/357 and the larger original Bisley Vaquero at the top is in 45 Colt.

Well my shooting skills are good to go. Last time I was at the range I put 32 rounds down range 25 of those were torso shots, 3 of them were head shots, 2 of them were neck shots, and the last two were flyers but they were literally mm above the shoulders.

Right now we're looking into going to an indoor range so I can try out my .38 & my single action but having shot both calibers before I can safely say that I'll be just fine with them.

As I said 22LR is great for pests and target practice but I'd rather have something more substantial for my third gun. Plus I've honestly never seen 327 anywhere out here in AZ. Sure I could find it online but as I've already said I'd much rather have as few types of ammunition to work with as possible.

Anything that can shoot 45LC or 38 Special ammo would be good and if it can also shoot something else that would be easily available and versatile then that would be a much appreciated bonus, at this point though I'm trying to decide between the Ruger Redhawk & the Taurus Raging Bull, so far the bull is winning my favor, however I do believe the Redhawk has a conversion cylinder for 45 ACP and we have plenty of those at the house as well.

Well that does sound good. Only 1 miss per 16 shots on a man-size paper target. I assume this was at real-world combat distance. Sounds like a fun hour at the range.

Given what you’ve said, I do think you have everything you need already. And I saw your revolver pictures in the “Let’s see your single actions” thread and that Uberti is a very nice gun! But if you absolutely must change things around the Raging Judge would be a fine addition to your collection. The convertible Redhawk would be OK too I guess but let’s face it the Redhawk fires one fewer types of cartridge and is 29 ounces lighter than the Raging Judge for basically the same money. The .454 casull is a much more powerful round than .45acp so that definitely brings something to the table you won’t get with the Redhawk.
 
I'm personally going to advise against any of the shotgun revolvers. S&W Governor, Taurus Judge, any of em; and those on here who have researched it should as well. A novelty. Not *useless*, but dang near close. You want a DA/SA .45 Colt, go with a Ruger Redhawk (45 Colt & Auto), a S&W M25 (made in either .45 Colt or .45 Automatic, but not both; to my knowledge), or a Ruger Super Redhawk in .454 Casull. Stay away from junk guns for SHTF purposes. IE, Taurus.

Well from what I've researched and seen people tend to love the Taurus weapons. Can you ilaberate on just what makes them "junk guns" because I've personally found d it to be more of a hassle using auto-loaders more than any revolver out there and I seriously doubt that Taurus could somehow mess one up. But if you prove me wrong and provide some convincing evidence then I wi definitely take your advice into consideration.
