Cheapest bullpup?

I would like to try a buildup also. Unfortunately I usually get what I pay for! The Tavor X95 is what interests me, but like you said $1000+ is a lot to spend on speculation.

There are some bull pup conversions for 22s. I have shot one on a 10/22. I would typically say that a bull pup design has very limited operational advantage, especially for a person used to a conventional layout. It’s an entirely different manual of arms, and unless you have a specific need for the gun to be so short then you are trading off sight radius which is useful for compactness that is arbitrary. They do stow away better behind a truck seat which is one consideration, but they also take up roughly the same space as a collapsed AR carbine, more space than a braced pistol, and have a balance that takes a lot of getting used to since there is so much weight at the shoulder.

Im still seriously considering ordering a hipoint 10mm carbine, and dropping it into an HTA stock.


The other bullpup that interests me is the keltec rdb.

The cheapest you will find is the Hi-Point/High-Tower.

I’ve seen plenty of new shooters turn even the cheapest guns into bullpups!

That's pretty neat. One big complaint on bullpups is usually the trigger, as logistically it's hard get one on the level of one on a quality "regular" carbine/rifle. Nice thing with a Hi-Point is you really aren't ruining a great trigger to begin with.

EAA/Tanfoglio Appeal is probably the cheapest overall. It’s a rim fire gun (LR or Mag versions available). Cost right now is $429 new.

I’ve owned one. It’s a fun little gun, about 30” long from the factory (18” barrel) but that’s including a plastic muzzle guard and LOP spacers that come off easily. I don’t have any complaints, though I wish the barrel was threaded.

If you want a true rifle (and not a rim fire or pistol-caliber carbine) then you can’t beat the Kel-Tec RDB. They aren’t cheap, it they are solid and dependable.

And you can dress them up pretty nicely!!

I used to be interested in bullpups, not so much anymore. The reason is twofold, triggers and if there is a catastrophic failure it occurs closer to your face.

If that's any more than a rimfire, she's going to be needing some coverup eye makeup.

Bullpups, although there are exceptions, generally don't do good things for lefties.

If you look closely, it is a spring air rifle. The recoil from the spring will pull it forward.

The Tavor is pretty much an AK in a bullpup configuration with great ergonomics. I found mine barely used at a significant discount. Tavors can be completely swapped to LH configuration, including the side the CH is on.

The manual of arms is somewhat different if you have lots of experience with AR15s but nothing that can’t be picked up with some practice. The ergonomics of the Tavor are much better than an AR15, with large, well placed controls.

Not going to be as cheap as a KelTec but I suspect that the resell value will be higher as well.

I keep looking at that KelTec. I will probably bite when the price gets down were it was (<800). At the same time, I would like to see an AR bullpup kit; yes, I enjoy tinkering.

Some places have the rdb for just over $800 maybe there will be some less then 800 on holidays. I've been looking hard at the survival. Some real gun experts like them, and said to have a better trigger then any bullpup.

Not an AR, but Centerfire had Steyr AUG kits on sale last weekend.

The KelTec RDBs, at least back at the last show, about Valentine's Day were down to about $7-800.
The RDB is not bad, especially in 5.56.
I've tried to like Tavors, I really have; but they just don't, well for want of a better word, "fit" me well.
The AUGs are ok, if having an odd balance point and cranky about optics.
I'd love a Desert Tech, but not at the current MSRP.
That's my 2¢, spend it as you will.

I’m the reverse. I like the design simplicity of the Tavor but the AUG just fits me.

I put the HTA kit on my 9mm Hi Point. It changed it from a gun that sat at the back of my safe, unused, to one that goes with me to the range quite often now. One day it may even become my bump in the night gun, it's balance and compactness really makes it an excellent option for indoors IMO. The biggest drawback is Hi Points seem to be more picky about magazines than other guns. I have 2 that don't work 100% reliably (one Hi Point and one Redball) and I visually can't see a difference between the good ones and the bad ones.

Yeah, I kind of wish I had picked up one back when I was seeing them just over $700 some places. From the reviews i've seen, the quality is decent and most folks seem to be satisfied with them.
