Ever wish you had never gotten rid of it, Never sold it, Still had it? I do. In my old age I think of all the guns of past years that I let go for one reason or another. Wish I had them all back. But I still have few left. Not worth much to most. But they will stay with me untill. 20200518_122535_resized.jpg

Gunny, this is a stock I was inspired to work on after seeing many of your posts. It’s one of the recent Chinese SKS imports that as I understand had been in Albania. It was in really rough shape when I got it and I refinished it once with shellac, thinking it looked like something the Russians might have done. In reality it looked like cheap shiny furniture and I was never very happy with it. At that point the Original finish was gone but I figured I’d try and show it a little more respect. The dents, scrapes and dings were mostly still there so I removed the shellac and finished it with hand rubbed BLO.

Gunny
I got all my polymer frame handguns out today for a pic. The only one not in the pic is my Glock 19 Gen 3.

Wow Gunny that's quite the extended family you've got there!

Got a favorite in the bunch?

Here is my big boomer. Navy Arms Rolling Block replica in 50-140 Sharps. When you shoot it you know it. I'm not tough anymore to do so and I've started loading it as 50-70 with cream-o-wheat to fill up those big cases. It still has enough whop on the rear end that I wear a Past recoil protector when shooting it off the bench.

This is another 50 caliber. T/C Hawken I built from a kit many years ago for my wife to deer hunt with. It's killed one mule deer. This was back when I could still stand to do checkering and I put a simple pattern on this and also a bit of brass wire inlay.

Hmm, don't know how I managed to post two of the same picture but I did and don't know how to remove one of them.

My little Ruger #1 in 270.

Henry uses better than average wood with their Frontier 22 rifles and then covers it up with a finish that look like dried mud. Despite that it's a really nice rifle.

Last is a Marlin 917VS my wife bought for me. It was a shiny gun with a dull finished stock and I said to myself that doesn't work for me so I refinished the stock with MInWax clear poly after doing some reshaping of the stock in the wrist area and adding vent slots and milling a groove under the barrel to lose a little weight and give it better balance. I also turned the magazine into a four shot to keep it from hanging down underneath the stock.

Got this back from #4 son. He hunts in some pretty extreme conditions and is getting a stainless/plastic 308.

This is a tang safety M77 Ruger. 30-06,minty 5 star Redfield 1-4,Lee 309-150 cast bullets,Earnie the gunsmith trigger spring nets a 3# pull. Otherwise bone stock, ragged holes @50yds. Just a fun little pkg, goes nicely with my Colt comander.

upload_2020-5-22_21-39-4.jpeg Alright here’s one to turn you all green with envy. Nothing special about the rifle per say other than it was the first rifle I could say I “built” myself. It’s a DPMS lower with a Delton upper and lower parts kit.

What makes it cool is that little bit of graffiti on the stock. That’s right. Jerry Miculek was in town as part of an outdoor expo at a local sporting goods store. He did a little Q&A and then hung around the Smith& Wesson booth where I got him to sign it. He also signed my 12 year old son’s range bag. My boy didn’t quite get why I was so excited, but some day he will.

Very cool with the autograph but now you're going to have to get another buttstock for your AR!

No doubt. I think m going to have to. I’ve got a couple other M4 style AR’s but that 20” model is my favorite. I’ve thought about trying to cover it in some clear paint or something but I’m scared to mess it up.
