.22 Long Rifle

IMG_1937.jpg I'm waking up this thread because I just finished a project.
Pictured is a Mossberg 42M-C. I acquired it in somewhat rough shape ; light pitting , badly bunged up screws , missing butt plate. Bronze wool , Flitz and oil freshened up the steel. I used a variety of small files and cold blue to clean up the screws. I gave up trying to find a decent proper butt plate , opting for making a mahogany piece that extended the short-ish pull. Cleaned up rather nicely , I think.

Yesterday I took the 42 to the range for a function shakedown. The rear peep sight and front hood act as a bullseye kind of a sight , really focuses on a target. My range was only 11 yards - really short for a rifle - but for a preliminary sighting in and function test I was quite pleased. The target represents 21 rounds (3x7) and a bit of rear sight adjustment.

Peep sight , bolt action and Mannlicher stock - What's to not like? IMG_1939.jpg

Gotta love them Henry rimfires. Got the base model , H-001, lever gun on sale back in the fall of '18. Takes shorts & longs as well as 22 LR. Then last spring it got a rail and a Tasco red dot just for grins. Now I'm ready to put it back to the way Henry made it..... It's fun either way but that red dot looks too big and out of place on that trim little 22. I can still see the irons good enough (also put a fiber optic front sight on ), and I say it looks better without the red dot & rail... What say you ? ...... IMG_3066.JPG ..... IMG_5162.JPG ... ..

Take off the red dot for internet photos. Put the red dot back on and leave it there for actual shootin'. :D

If the Tasco is too large, make it an Aimpoint Micro. :D

Uh oh, you're starting to give me ideas. I do think that Tasco is kind of oversized for a .22 lever gun. It was on sale at Midway USA and I just had to try it.
