We’ve had some fun picture threads lately that have remained mercifully free of bickering or controversy. Let’s keep the good vibes rolling.

I’m hoping this will become a long running thread capturing pictures of some of our favorite outdoor load outs.

Every post must include a mention and/or picture of the gun you carried in the great outdoors that particular outing. This isn’t a general non-firearm gear thread as that’s outside the scope of THR. But if other gear is in the pictures, no problem. BUT THERE HAS TO BE A GUN, or we’ll get shut down. Also, let’s not debate or disparage anyone’s choices. This isn’t the thread to debate the effectiveness of bear spray.

Tell us what you carried, your ammo choice if you like, and maybe the purpose of the outing and load out choice.

I was off work today and had some time to go out for a nice hike. I took my time and enjoyed it. I saw some deer a smooth green snake, a marmot, and all kinds of birds. Weather was great.

Mountain lions are the biggest predator here so I carried a Sig Sauer P220 chambered in 10mm auto. It was loaded with Underwood Ammo 140 gr Extreme Penetrators. The bullets are made by Lehigh but the cartridges are loaded by Underwood.

Normally I am trucking along but I was under a doctor’s orders to keep my heart rate low. So I had time for a few pictures in the woods.

I also carried a WE Knife Co. Chimera knife. It’s a 3.9” S35VN bladed flipper knife. Very handy and very comfortable to use.

And finally I also was using a 48” Rowan Tree walking stick. Rowan is also known as mountain ash. It was made by a man in Ireland and makes for a nice hiking stick.

All in all it was a very peaceful time. I saw no one and just listened to some relaxing music on a single ear bud. Couldn’t have been much better.

So what did you carry into the outdoors today?

We are adjacent to a recreation area thus we have vast amounts of woods to roam. Sometimes we find people that are challenged as to their location and direction of travel. Since we've been here 25+Yrs,we are will versed as to giving out instructions thus guidance to these poor souls!:) Some times the young ladies even give an old man a hug!

"Every post must include a mention and/or picture of the gun you carried in the great outdoors that particular outing."

Headed to the rocks at the top of the hill behind my house with the dogs. Carried the M65 LS with 158 grain XTPs. Saw a porcupine (the dogs didn't get into it and it let me pet it), and a black vulture, and then her eggs (not really in their range here, so an uncommon bird).

Well, my "outside adventures" today consisted of getting the mail, working on the pool, and going grocery shopping. Didn't feel the need to carry for the first two, but I did carry my 43X while shopping. You neve know when you might have to ward off an old lady challenging me for the last can of ravioli or the last pack of TP.
Better safe than sorry. ;)

I spent half the day today stomping around in a preserve of marsh, wetlands, and deep lakes, made from a former ranch and quarry. It was hot but breezy, and I knew there wouldn't be anyone else around (we had five solid inches of rain last night.) Just some good old, get-out-and-stretching space, and I enjoyed every minute of it. A four-mile, 4x4 drive on the mud trail around the largest lake finished out the day, in my old, rusted-out '97 Grand Cherokee woods wagon.

On my hip the whole time was a Remington R1S Enhanced Commander .45, and in the watch pocket of my jeans was a NAA .22LR mini.

I threw the pic together when I saw the thread. I had taken the Jeep pic before heading back into town..

This was on Good Friday of this year.....

Figured I would make one last attempt to get to where I hunt whitetails, look for deer and moose antlers before green-up. One does not want to be there now as the biting insects will carry you away!

I was carrying my Virginian Dragoon in 44 Remington Magnum that day in a shoulder holster because, well, I can!
Stopped near the hunting shack at "the range" and shot at least fifty rounds.

Here is what I found when the snow melted.

Some of my cast bullets, but not as tasty as the mushrooms "Armored Farmer" finds! :)

I try to get out into the woods on a regular basis and the wilderness of Idaho is maybe 40 minutes away.

Preferred sidearm is my Glock G29 with KKM 4.5" barrel and X-Grip extension for 15 rounds of 10mm with my own hand cast 190gr boolits.

I used to carry a Ruger SR1911 while hiking. In VA, the only bears are black bears, way more likely to run than attack. So, snakes and 2-legged varmints, maybe a chance of something small and rabid, caused me to carry a round of snakeshot in the chamber (which would cycle the action), followed by a mag of JHP, with a spare mag full of more snakeshot. Never drew it, but felt comfortable with my choice.

Beautiful pictures. Touched by your best friend, just had to put my girl down last month, 13 years sure flew by fast.

Haven't had a chance to enjoy nature in some time, just playing in the yard with my two young kids and new puppy. Probably take them for a walk this afternoon, couple mile loop.

I'll have the EDC X9, as usual. Only ever seen one bear in the neighborhood so the 10mm or .45 with 255 grain hardcasts usually stay home. Also the usual Spiderco ..whatever I have, Endura maybe, and a Leatherman Skeletool.

WELL DONE!

I took a little crew of 6 up into the mountains last weekend for some booney romping and trail finding. Always a good time !

It’s days like yesterday that I really love, but they also make me miss the past. I used to get paid to bush wack 3-5 days a week. It was great and my mood was better in general. Now I get out a few days a year for work.

I guess I’m still pretty lucky though, and giving up some fun was the only way to make a better income in my field.

Well my outing was a bit different. It was to a LGS to pick up my latest.

It was like this; I wasn’t sitting on the fence to buy this new Wilson EDC X 9, I was just reaching for the post to climb up. But JR24’s thread last week about his Wilson EDC
just pushed me up and over the fence!

I’m not crazy enough to go the range on a weekend here in Redneck land where lockdown is a total joke. But I hope to shoot it during the week at least before the credit
card bill arrives. That way it may not sting so hard.
