Ruger LC9s. Buy or pass

Didn’t like the grip. I’d say pass if you already have the shield.

I've never handled or owned a Shield so I can't comment on the comparison. But I had a LC9s for a while and liked it quite a bit. It was very accurate. The trigger is a major upgrade compared to the older LC9. Having a usable safety was a big plus for me. And with the trigger as light as it is I think a safety is advisable. I don't mind that my Glocks don't have a safety, but the Ruger trigger is much lighter. 9 round magazines are available from Ruger which is another good point.

I only sold mine after buying my Sig 365. I do like the Sig better, but it's a $500 pistol vs the $200 Ruger.

Buy it. Enjoy it.

I like mine, but it has been regulated to truck back up. Now mine is the EC9S, but its basically the same thing. Great trigger, feels a bit weird in my hand, rusts if I look at it funny.

I find the Shield superior in every way short of price as I like the firmer trigger of the Smith over the Ruger, but for what get i think the Shield is a better value.

Loved the gun as far as size etc. Snappy. My trigger had worn into about 4lbs. A little take up and barely no Wall. Way to dangerous. Got rid of it. Hickcock45 even made a comment how the LC9S trigger was so light it was like a target gun. And I do not need a target gun trigger for a EDC Carry.

I have the Pro, no safety or mag disconnect. I added a Hogue grip boot to solve the narrowness problem. It’s my most carried piece in a Sticky type appendix carry. I hardly know it’s there. I love the gun

I didn't care for the overall ergonomics of the gun and the way it felt in my hand. Definitely like the Shield a great deal more but for the price it would make for a decent gun for a late night run to the convenience store for some milk and bread, which you were supposed to get on your way home from work!

I like mine a lot. I got it cheap when they were discontinued.

I owned a LC9s for several years. As @Dan-On stated above I also did not like the grip. It was very acceptable but I would have preferred better ergonomics. I. Replaced it with a Walther PPS M2, which has fantastic ergonomics without being much larger than the Ruger. The L9s has aa great trigger, is highly reliable, and is backed by a company that has great customer service. When I bought my 380 I decided on the Ruger LCP2, because it was very affordable, and received excellent reviews, plus Ruger service. You will not go wrong with the LC9s.

She loves it.

I have the EC9S and like it very much. The Hogue grip makes it a great fit for me. If you want a double stack the SR9C is still available and not much larger.

I also have the LC9s pro (no safety or mag disconnect) and like everything about it besides the rather long trigger reset. I bought it to replace my Glock 27 (40 cal) as my carry gun, but it didn't. Still a good get at $230 I think.

My LC9S is an accurate workhorse, easy to carry in a sticky. I did wrap the grip, but that is the only thing.

It is a great gun. I have a shield and a lc9s both shoot pretty much the same although I changed the trigger in my shield.

I still have a LC9s Pro and it is a decent carry gun except, the slide is not very resistant to corrosion.
My Sig 365 made it obsolete. Higher capacity, smaller, much less snappy recoil, more ergonomic for me and I shoot it much better.

The gun feels cheap compared to the other options on the market. It does not feel very good in the hand and is more snappy vs it's competition IMHO. The LC9s Pro has a blued alloy frame and barrel which isn't very corrosion resistant. The Shield, like others popular single stack 9mm's, has a nitrited stainless barrel and slide. The LC9s Pro only ships with one mag. Just about all of the competition ships with 2 or more mags. There are a hell of a lot more after market support for the Shield. Lastly, the LC9s Pro has been discontinued.

You already own a superior gun IMHO.

I have an original LC9.
Utilitarian, reliable, nothing fancy about it at all.
The s model is supposed to have a better trigger, but the above descriptors still fit the s.

You'll basically be duplicating the Shield 9mm. If you’re looking for an inexpensive piece to put away as an emergency gun or truck gun while you EDC the Shield, this may be a good buy.

I have the LC9s, and my son has the Ec9s. We carry them on an everyday basis. Great shooter too ! Very accurate. I also have it's little brother , the LCP, which I carry when I am wearing light shorts in the summer. Love them both. Four of my friends also carry the LC9s .

Happy with my LC9s for a carry pistol

If I'm not carrying my Glock 26 or Glock 19 OWB, I'm pocket carrying my LC9S Pro.

Had a Shield, absolutely hated the jointed trigger. Gave it to my Brother In-Law.

Had one, first small 9mm..hated it..malfunction city plus it wore a blister right where the back strap/beaver tail touched my thumb..Mine was $319..shot it twice, traded it for a Glock 42...

I had the original with the Long Trigger. Later the first LC9S. Shot them quite a bit. The LC9S never had a problem as far as reliability. Shot about 6.000 rds through it. I liked the gun, actually shot very similar to the Sig 365 as far as recoil and snappiness. Just could not go along with the Light trigger combined bang with any pressure on the wall for EDC. I used it as a range gun for years but would not carry it. Finally got rid of it when I started thinking that if someone got it if something happened to me down the road and how it would be a danger with that trigger for any one using it. I understand many like light triggers with a glass wall. Just not my thing.
The only only complaint was that their was not much room in the trigger guard.
I shot they gun side by side with other Micro's and the LC9S was much snappier and more muzzle flip. Otherwise it was a solid performer as far as reliability. Just my two cents.

I have an EC9s for my daily carry. I like it's size, balance and fit. The mag that came with it has a small extension and I got a 2nd mag with a longer extension. I have nothing but good to say.
