After you shoot it you'll find more cosmoline lol. Keep the bolt clean and have fun.

You never completely get rid of the stuff 
. I soaked my turks in kerosene and gas/diesel to solvent it off.
20 years later the metal is clean but it still coming outta the wood when she gets heated. Nowhere near as much anymore.
I like the sks. She looks good.

Bake the wood in the sun or with an old clothes iron. Mind if I ask where you picked yours up?

The wood on Chinese guns I have owned had characteristics that took some getting used to. It has a tendency to fuzz up when sanded, and is soft as well as tough. I ended up with my SKS in a red fiber stock, my olympia clone was sold before I could make the crudely checkered grips even worse, and the JW-15 went to make room for the CZ. I am sure there is good information out there on how to work with it by now. Good luck!

No it’s not. Even less fun with a Glock 19 that breaks a firing pin and jams the pin extended forward.

I had a Norinco that the soft metal of the firing pin and the fp retaining pin wore away on and allowed the fp to jam in the forward position. Had some doubles and slamfires. Had to replace them both. But it runs fine now.

My first rifle was a Yugo SKS and it was caked in Cosmo. I found that WD40 cleaned up the cosmo pretty good and I refinished the stock with Linseed Oil. Not bad for my first try. Yours looks good as well. Get ready if you're shooting in the summer heat. It will still seep cosmo out of the stock. No way to get rid of it all.

I ordered it from Sportsman's Warehouse here in Utah. I know they have stores in other states as well.
Is there ever end to the Cosmoline? Lol
I disabled the bolt, cleaned the firing pin, and under the extractor.

They have one here but won’t do store to store transfers and are out of stock for the foreseeable future.
I shot it today, still have some minor work left on it, but seems to shoot fine.

Doesn't surprise me. When I ordered mine there was a limit of one per person, and when I went in the line at the gun counter was fairly long. At least around here (and from what I hear other places as well) people have been buying guns like crazy. I know finding gun powder is still somewhat of as a sad joke as well, or primers, bullets, pretty much you name it.
I ordered mine from their website, and had it shipped in.

I put my bolt in am ultrasonic cleaner with some de-greaser. It did the trick. Your SKS looks great. You will certainly enjoy it. Cleaning it and getting it ready to shoot is all part of the fun. Enjoy.
