Disabled vet lookin for someone to recommend a N. Illinois gun range.
I'm in a wheelchair, so it can't be blocks of walking in the wilderness.
My mind, arms & speech are just fine.
(and I have an electric outdoor mobility cart)
I'd like to go during the week, maybe, or weekends, stay an hour or two.

Not interested in weekend only, or so many policies that they're crawlin up yur six.
I have a chronograph I'd like to use.

I know that's lots to think of.

Thank you very much.

Thanks for the suggestion.
Sounds like a bunch of rules.
  1. Please read through the Range Rules before your visit. We do not allow shotguns of any size. If you have a Judge or Governor please do not even bring 410 shot shells or slugs with you.
  2. Reserved Lanes Are Non-Refundable - If you do not show up; you still pay.
Due to my disability I'd have to wait til the day of to make reservations.
Would they allow a chrono?
Is it wheelchair accessible?
Don't mean to make excuses, I guess I'll have to call to get answers.

I belong to Aurora Sportsman's Club o Waterman. I’m not sure where you’re located but it’s an outdoor only club and sounds like what you’re looking for. I’m not sure if there’s currently a waitlist to join and if there is how long of a wait, but can look into it if you’d like.

TomJ - If you would, I'd appreciate it.
I'd like to get a phone number too please.
Then I can ask questions.

PS - I love your avatar - You're correct, God is faithful! ;)

Thanks. He is. The club's phone number is (815) 264-9000. I sent an e-mail to the membership director asking if there's a waitlist and if there is, how long of a wait he thinks it'll be. The club is run by volunteers so I don't know that they have staff in the office regularly and you may need to leave a message. I'll let you know when they respond. I pasted the link to their contact page below.

I'll PM you as well. I just received the following e-mail from them. I also attached the link to their membership page.

"Your friend needs to submit an online applicatin ASAP. We are bringing in new members right now. 38 joined last Saturday and we have 50 signed up to come in July 25 with two more sessions in August. There are about 60 slots still available in August."

Northern Illinois Rifle and Pistol Club would be a lot closer for you. I think they are in the Pecatonica - Rockford area. I've never been there and don't know if they provide what you require but here is a link to their web site. http://nirpc.com/

There is a handicapped access range in Peoria on North University Avenue. It's called the Tac Shack. Phone number is: (309) 683-0111. I know that it would be a bit of a drive but they even have classes for disabled people every now and again. Their address is 8919 N. University, Peoria. They also have a shop in Monmouth, Illinois too.

IHmagnum - thanks
I sent them a message. I hope they respond.

Rifleman 173 - thank you, but Peoria is 2 1/2 hours away.
That's a bit far for me.

This kinda stinks.
When I lived up in WI, I'd go behind my friends barn & blast away.
It'd take me 15 min to get there

I already heard from Northern Illinois Rifle and Pistol Club.
The President called me not 5 minutes after I emailed.
I'm going Wed to scope it out.
Sounds promising so far.

And a man moves for 1 of 2 reasons; a woman or a job.
I'm not workin' anymore. ;)

You'll probably find an inverse relationship with wheelchair compatable and lack of rules.

I went to checkout the
http://nirpc.com Northern Illinois Rifle and Pistol Club.
Ah, the place is gorgeous.
I thin' I found me a new home.
30 min drive, locked gated range.
Parking is 10 feet from the benches.
Has a roof over the shooting areas.

A little on the expensive side at $210 membership fee.
But it checks off all of the other boxes.

Thank you very much to all who posted.
I very much appreciate it.

I dont know how far you are from Beloit, WI but the Beloit rifle club could fit your needs. Both indoor and outdoor, you can literally drive your vehicle right up to the shooting lanes. There is a separate rifle range, 22LR, black powder, hand gun, and cowboy action ranges.

I can go in the morning at 7am and there is NO ONE at the range, same when I get off work at 2:30, NO ONE is at the range.

For now I'm gonna stick to the N. IL Rifle & Pistol Club.
We'll see how it goes.

Again, thanks for all the posts. :)

If you are in Freeport then you might look into Here; https://www.rcrpc.com/category/milton-range/ They also have a facility in Janesville.
This may be a little trip for you but I am working here; https://www.mcmillersportscenter.com/ and they will make accommodations for wheelchairs or motorized carts. Here we have a daily pass that gets you access to all 4 rifle/pistol ranges, the 22 plinking range and the trap range for just $30.00.. There are paved drives, concrete sidewalks and concrete floors on the rifle ranges.

I have talked with shooters that are coming here all the way from Love's Park and Aurora. Last week we even had 4 guys come in from downtown Chicago.
