Neither my wife nor I need convincing to "go armed" - we almost always do, or we don't go.
However, I only wish my wife's and my CCW License were good in California because my wife was born and raised in San Diego, and she still has a few friends and relatives there. It's a problem - my wife's California "friends and relatives" are getting old (just like us, I suppose) and we're considering the fact that we might not see many of them again. Because, even though we both have Idaho Enhanced CCW Licenses, we can't legally "go armed" to California, so we're not going to go. Thanks California.

I travel quite a bit from Pa. to the Carolina's. I always carry my Glock 23 on my hip with 2 mags and a Ruger LCR 380 in my pocket!

Oh, no worries... I have some speed loaders and a New York reload.
And I’ve seen plenty of evidence how mobs scatter when someone pops off a few rounds.

Currently, I`d have my PC9 in the back floorboard in a backpack and the SR9c in the console.
Both using the same mags is, well, convenient.
These things change over time but if I were to leave home tomorrow, that`s what I`d take.

Pretty much 99% of my travel outside of MT is to ID. I don't carry anything different than I did in 2019 or 2018. Usually it's my P2000 although if I'm hiking or camping during the trip I take my VP9 since that's the one I have the kydex chest rig for. For trips to ID, I often take my Mossberg 500, CZ Scorpion and /or CZ Bren 805...not due to any risks but because I'll often hit the local range there with my buddy that lives near Wallace.

And a lot of ammunition. But I was doing some shooting on the East Coast. Nevertheless, I felt well-armed on the journey. Having said that, at no time did I see any of the shenanigans and anarchy that's going on. Having skirted Chicago, I was in America pretty much the whole journey...

G20. + a few spare mags (that I wouldn't normally carry), I carry that gun whenever a sweatshirt or jacket is appropriate. + a g42 if I'm headed to a warm climate.
For years all I carried was a g30 (home or away) and really don't think I would need more from a pistol , but for the bulk I'll just carry a full sized gun most of the time. A tiny gun is nice for being armed when it would otherwise be impossible.

Carry out of state as I always have. If just on a trip or headed to UT or WY for a lunch/ dinner engagement, just my 9mm H&K; if headed to any state to camp my Beretta .40 due to larger bullet (200 gr), greater mag capacity and more mags; more so for those four legged critters....

I have two ccp's. A resident Illinois, and a non resident Utah. Neither are valid in Florida (grrr).
What I do is carry in my legal states, then unload and zip it in a case and toss it in my duffel in the states that dont recognize my permits.
I often have a clay target gun with me as well.

Taking a stand, against an angry mob, is not a lone-defender task, and not best done with a handgun. Drive away, or, exfil on foot, using sensible tactics. Blend, rather than fight, if at all possible. We do all have a black hoody, and a black balaclava, do we not?
I have tended to like .357 Mag revolvers, for travel, because of the relatively flat trajectory, and because I shoot specific medium-frame and medium/large-frame revolvers better than other handguns. In open areas, these factors could give me an edge. Really, the main difference between a “town” revolver, and a road-trip/rural-area revolver, is the sights and barrel length.
The pandemic has limited my ability to train, so I have largely reverted to revolvers, for all occasions, anyway. My skill level with long-stroke DA is less perishable than my skill with a 1911, and my skill with the complex, mushy Glock trigger is most-perishable.
My only out-of-state road trip, in 2020, was a quick run to Mississippi, from my home in SE Texas. IIRC, I carried a 4” Speed Six, and brought a 3” GP100, which has a tritium front sight.
Texas is so large, most of my road trips remain within the state lines, but some number of my pre-2020 trips have gone into the NE states, so I have tended to carry revolvers, usually .357 Magnum Rugers. Even if I do not plan to drive through a place like NY or NJ, an unplanned/unforeseen detour can happen. If I were to specifically plan to go into NJ, I would take into account the prohibition on hollow-point ammo.

I think this "angry mob" thing is getting all blown out of proportion as much so as the panDEMik. Angry Wuhan infected mobs are not out roaming the country side attacking random people. It is pretty much easy to determine areas that are undergoing (in some cases justifiable) civil temper tantrums. Just do not go there. Most of the states where these hissy fits are occurring in are also very liberal and the only outcome I can think of that firing into an "angry mob" would result in is significant time in jail and more dead people that do not need to be dead and a bunch of ruined lives including yours. Escape is almost always possible and is far preferable to standing ground in this situation. Now if the "angry mob" appears out of nowhere and chases you into a blind alley frothing at the mouth and chanting "we want to eat your brains" them let them have it. I usually carry a Glock 19 or a Springfield XDM. I like the XDM because it has a grip safety and a convertible grip length for easier concealment. Both are capable of preventing my brains from being eaten.
I realize you're probably being tongue in cheek, but I took my first vacation of the year recently. Flights and rental car were very inexpensive (they gave me a convertible for the price of the full-size sedan or SUV I would normally go for). Accommodations were inexpensive, and the places we visited weren't crowded.
For those who don't have a compromised immune system, who are healthy, exercise, take their vitamins, and are willing to take some easy precautions with masks and handwashing, it's a great time to book a trip.

The only time in the last 10 years I have left the most firearms friendly state in the Union, (Arizona), I carried my CZ P-09 with two spare mags. That was 58 rounds of Critical Duty ammo, so I figured I was good. Nothing happened and the gun came back with me unfired.

Your basic point was proven with that AntiFamily solidado who reportedly used his AKM clone to shoot at a passer by in his car, who apparently responded with a sidearm, killing the AKM wielding thug. I believe this was two days ago?
As someone who works in the travel industry, thank you. It’s been a rough year. Your post makes sense for people who are smart and can travel. Checking a handgun is very easy on the airlines.

If this is the Austin incident, that is not what happened. A Uber driver (or some such company), who is a soldier, made a wrong turn into a demonstration. His car was surrounded and a demonstrator pointed an AK at him. There is some debate if he pointed the gun or it was slung. However, pictures indicate it was pointed. The drive shot him and drove off - he then called the police, responsibly. As he drove off, someone (who also is under investigation), shot at his car.

I usually carry a smaller semi auto on my belt discreetly and a snubbed revolver in my pocket. Think CZ Rami, Glock 26, HK P2000sk. The pocket carry is always my much toted S&W 638 revolver.
One reload for each, and I just try to be cautious at gas stations, rest areas, restaurants, etc. A couple of years ago I was filling up the tank on the SW side of Oklahoma City in the wee hours when a woman went running by shouting that she had just been robbed at gunpoint by a "truck driver." ??
It seemed unlikely to me that an over the road driver was a part time stick up man, but I guess anything is possible. I thought it may have been distraction for shenanigans by an accomplice, or maybe she was just a disgruntled lot lizard or crazy person. No matter I kept kept on high alert with a hand in my pocket until I had topped of the tank and vacated the premises.

First was a customer in Denver wanted some repair work done. Punch the address into the GPS and away I go. Took me right downtown by the capital. ***. If it's a riot or a toll road Google Maps takes you right to it. Protesters everywhere but nothing happened to me or the truck.
Second time was in Aurora picking up my kids from Grandmas house. Maybe 100 cars slow rolling road block clogging up the road. People hanging out of car windows with signs screaming at the sky. I'm sitting at a red light watching this creep towards me. Light turned green and I turned left in front of the two lead cars. Got on the highway back to Golden Co.
Same place about a week later was the shooting on I 225 involving a blue Jeep driving past the protesters. Protester shoots two other protesters as he tries to shoot the jeep. You probably seen it on the news.
Glock 22 with 2 extra mags. Better than nothing but want something mounted in the bed that's belt fed.
