I made it to the range pretty early this morning, before it became unbearably hot and humid.
Carried the 10/22, Ruger MK II, and my old Marlin Mod 80 DL, with the new Leupold rimfire scope.

I didn't shake as bad as I have been and with the Marlin managed one group of 7 shots that measured approximately 3/8", and the other one that was a string.

I just purchased some cheap bags to shoot from, and I quickly found out that shooting from them takes concentration and practice. I shot the string on the right side first, followed by the other one.
Question for you guys that really know how to shoot from bags: I had the bags adjusted so that the scope was showing 1-2" high, then as I let out my last breath before shooting, I would squeeze the rear bag to lower the scope to the bullseye before firing. On the string, I think I squeezed the bag again when the rifle fired. Am I correct with my thinking?

That's good shooting!

When I was a younger teen, I had an old Savage semi-auto that wore a scope, towards the end of my ownership. One day, I decided to shoot it to see how accurate it might be. I put up a target at maybe 50 yards and shot what I thought was going to be a group and it turned out to be more like a shotgun pattern!! It was gone that day and I came home with a new Marlin 39A Mountie.

I mounted a 5D receiver sight on the Mountie and was pleased that it would group about 1" at 50 yards with that peep!!! It killed lots of cans, rats, red squirrels, and kept my girl friend's family safe from a drunk who got the wrong house and insisted that he was going to get in that one. The sight of her with a Ruger Bearcat and her younger brother with the Marlin Mountie and he beat feet!!!

You should set the rifle up on the front sandbag so that it doesn't require any further manipulation. It may require either adjusting a front rest, or shimming a front bag. The rear "rabbit ear" bag is set up so that relatively light squeezing with the non-trigger hand aligns the horizontal crosshair vertically to the center of the target.

BTW: I have a very heavy front benchrest with fine adjustments, but it weighs a ton. I also have two inexpensive Hoppe's aluminum front rests that I've improved a bit and I prefer to use one when sighting-in because they're so handy. I also keep one, along with a rear bag in a 5-gallon plastic bucket under my bench at the personal range down back. It stays out of the weather and I've had no problems.

Good deal on the range trip yesterday. I went also but I was shaking and the wind got up and I gave up. I was shooting at 50 yards and the groups weren't too bad but nothing to brag about. I still enjoyed myself.

Took my '70 Fingergroove to the range today.............did not do well.
First shot flier now and then. Initial group looked VERY good, excluding flier.
But as the bbl warmed it went to heck.
Tried 3 diff ammos.

I could send the bbl off for rework by CPC (or get GM sporter bbl). Bolt needs FP pinned and headspace.
Am content to leave it at "regular" plinker 10/22 accuracy level and make it trading stock.

Beater, but darn cool. Love the look and feel of em. Which means I'd like the orig bbl to stay on.

But my patience has been exhausted. Have a CZ 455 that does better.
Gunshow this weekend, maybe trade the 10/22 in on a Browning Buckmark 5.5" contour.

Just curious, do you have the barrel band sill mounted? Just to see what transpires, take that thing off and do some more shooting. Those barrel bands can play havoc with accuracy, especially when, as you've found, the barrel heats up.
 
Must say, gunshow this weekend, scope is back in box waiting for something else to come along.....and it just kills me.

To sell another fingergroove. Love the looks and feel, but its just another old 1022. If it was mint Id proly throw the $ into it to make it special.

But another 200 in it is just a waste of money. It might shoot way better, but would stillbstill a beater fingergroove.

I have my CZ455, which doesnt thrill. Liked the hogback beech stock ( you saw it on another forum SGW ). I got 2 dings in the wood from a bolt handle on another rifle in the safe.....so that set off my OCD.
Swapped to synth.

Am slowly changing everything to synth

You do some fantastic wood work and I do appreciate that stuff. But my luck says plastic is the way i need to go LOL
