Finished latest 80%, finally.

-AMT 80% Billet Lower
-Brass/Aluminum Forging Enterprises M4 Upper
-Ballistic Advantage Premium Black 16” Barrel
-Non labeled Azimuth Enhanced Nitride BCG with anti-tilt.
-Lightweight Adjustable, Clamp on Gas Block-Nitrided (Several suppliers, although I have not yet located the machine shop making them)
-Surefire 3P Eliminator Flashhider
-ADE Pro 7075-T6 12” M-Lok Hybrid handguard.
-LPK is my own pieced together kit. Individual parts from Ground Zero Precision & TPS Arm. Almost every part is Nitrided.
-ALG QMS trigger
Magpul K2 grip
-Ergo F93 stock
-Armaspec Sound Mitigation H2 Buffer assy.

I’ve used many of these same parts on several builds & also recommended to several friends on their builds since 2014.

Good stuff Grayrock! Which 80% did you go with? What technique did you use for machining. I use a Mill. You have a handguard picked out yet? I did SOOO much research (well, I’ve been researching AR tech for 15 years!), but this one I chose because it’s made from 7075-T6 over the conventional 6061 Aluminum of most. Although I won’t go through the company again! They are sold on Gunbroker though. Mlok & Key Mod.

Did you know the F93 was the Predecessor to UBR? Magpul & Ergo have some history. Most don’t know this. Yes, the UBR is a good bit lighter. Although weight isn’t a factor for me anyway.(I’m disabled & have only one arm/hand to use, soooo, “Running & Gunning” isn’t part of my repertoire any longer. Smellin’ what I’m steppin’ in brother? And I genuinely just find the F93 to be more attractive, and imo, tougher.

ALG qms is an ok trigger. The $80 on MBT single or double stage trigger will be worth it, and you will have a spare trigger to build your next rifle around.

I appreciate it... also to Rabid Wombat. Yes, I’m familiar with both of those options...the Larue & also the ACT trigger. After building & researching them over 15 years, really nothing in the AR world has escaped my eye.

No, I use the ALG QMS trigger specifically because it’s a Milspec, but better trigger. And specifically for it’s price point. I won’t even spend $60..let alone $80 on an aftermarket trigger! I’ve been doing all my own trigger work for 20 years. I’ve modded every stock trigger in every firearm I’ve owned, since 1999. And no, I’m not a “Dremel specialist” with them...LOL! I make my own jigs & use Japanese water stones to achieve perfectly flat & polished surfaces. Knowing trigger modification is understanding them as two rotational planes with perfect parallel mating surfaces. Figure that out, apply it for a decade & you to will be an
expert “trigger seter-upper”, LOL!:rofl:

I built a couple of rifles using Magpuls m93b which I loved until it was replaced by the ubr. I wasn’t aware another company made them first.
Only thing I didn’t like about it was the row of holes in the top would catch my beard

Awesome! What length & style are you looking for? Under $45 it’s not going to be US made....but I do know of a few very inexpensive, but “good” quality options. Let me know your style & length preference and I’ll look through my sources.

No, no... Ergo didn’t make them “first“ per say. I should have been more clear. It was a collaboration between Ergo & Magpul. Ergo called it the F93 while Magpul went with M93b. To say which was first is like asking “what came first, chicken or the egg”..LOL. But Magpul very soon after, decided to create the UBR Gen1. They only sold the M93b for a short time, and released all the tooling & rights to Ergo.

But the true story is, Magpul was an up & comer at the time, and not the multi-million company of today. Ergo, although relatively new, was a huge organization with money. Magpul needed the money & Ergo wanted a fresh “NEW” boost in the “Tactical” world. Ergo thought they would be able to use Magpul as a subsidiary. Fearing THIS, Magpul quickly made their OWN style stock, the UBR, released all rights and tooling and stopped selling the M93b. Thus, severing all ties to Ergo. (Of course Magpul paid back the “upfront loot” many times over to Ergo).

I knew that Magpul had done the majority of the designing on the M93 ad later sold their rights to in to Ergo.
The biggest problem with the M93 stock is that it heavy, ad then it’s bulky too. It is a good looking stock, but you don’t see many people using them anymore. They are becoming the quad rail of stocks.
When I went to the UBR, I sold the M93 to a friend for $50.
 
Yup...like I said, Magpul needed an “investing partner”, and Ergo was hoping for a more popular “Tacti-cool” partner.

Well, I never tested weight on the M93 Magpul version, but my F93 is 1.3lbs.. actually decent but lighter than the UBR at 1.46lbs. (1.63lbs with receiver extension).
I’m not concerned with others not using it, or anything else I use for that matter. $50? wow...wish I had come across something like that. The very cheapest I have purchased one for is about $130. This one was $150 back when I ordered it. I chose it for very specific reasons. Ruggedness was at the top.

So, yeah...about it being so heavy but switching to the considerably HEAVIER UBR?? I may not know it all but I did know that!

NICE! Look forward to seeing how it goes on the range trip! The first time I built an AR from 80% I was shocked at how easy it was, shocked at how much damn fun it was, and shocked at how much fun it was when it all worked :D
I remember taking it to the range and loading only 2 rounds at a time, just sure something would go wrong LOL. It of course did not. Now only downside is all of a sudden I wanted to spend a lot of money on more parts :rofl:

Somewhere between 12 to 15 inches. Slim line. Possibly mlok.

I know what you mean. To be clear, this wasn’t my FIRST 80%. No, I’m quite familiar with both 80% AR Lowers & pistol frames. I followed the 80% from when it was first introduced. The first time I heard the term 80% lower was in 2010,2011...but they weren’t officially available until 2012.(I’m sure someone here is going to conveniently “remember” doing an 80% in 2001 or something..seems that’s always the case here.) I didn’t jump early on because in the beginning, they were all 6061 Aluminum. Couple years later manufacturers started selling 7075 80%’s. But still I waited, to make sure all the bugs were worked out. Two years ago was when I started. It’s all I use now. I build ALL of my own firearms. My 1911’s, my bench gun...even my 9mm carry pistol. Super fun!

I had heard of them for a long time. Never had any interest in them. Was not until they started making noise about making them illegal, as if the criminals all cared enough to build a gun, yea right. So anyway figured what the hell will give it a shot. I had never built an AR. Only thing I ever did to mine was take them down to clean. So bought a book and DVD with the stuff to make the first one. Did not need to book or DVD as it was far easier than I imagined. Watched some YouTube on a lap top while putting it together and damned if it all didn't work. It was a real blast when I took the first one to the range and it just worked. Now all of a sudden I could see why so many were saying these were fun to do!:D

The stock I have is the UBR Gen2. It’s 20% lighter then the Gen1. I find that it has a better balance and the rifle shoulders better.
But then it’s really comes down to preference. What works for some doesn’t work for others.
I still like the look of the F93 stock, just didn’t work for me. The friend I sold it to was on a budget so, selling him the stock for $50 helped him out. I had also added the metal toe to the stock.

How do you like the UBR 2? I'm about to order one, but have had zero chance to try one.
