Scored some free 9mm ammo over the weekend,,,
At least it was free to me at this time.

Saturdays are my days to not do anything productive,,,
Usually I watch a few movies and putter around my house.

With the current ammo shortage going on I decided to let my OCD out to play,,,
I spent a happy couple of hours counting my existing ammo stock,,,
I knew I was in good shape but didn't know exact numbers

Just a few months ago I received a decent cash windfall,,,
I spent almost every penny on ammunition.

I bought 1K of 9mm, 500 of .380 ACP, 500 of .32 ACP, 250 of .25 ACP and 100 of 8mm Mauser,,,
I wasn't anywhere near being out of stock with those cartridges,,,
It was just me getting a surprise $500+ and using it wisely.

Anyways, there I was, dragging all of my plastic storage bins out,,,
When I notice one smaller bin pushed way back under a chair,,,
I didn't immediately recognize it but drug it out as well.

Imagine my surprise when i opened the heavy bin,,,
And found 1,200 rounds of Federal aluminum cased 9mm FMJ. biggrin.gif

I had to put my mind into the Way-back Machine to remember purchasing it,,,
But I eventually recalled buying it from Wal Mart during the start of the Obama shortage.

My closest guess is that the ammo has been sitting forgotten under that big chair since early 2009.

I had gone in there early one Saturday just as they were putting a case of it out,,,
It was priced at $9.95 per box so I went ahead and bought 25 boxes,,,
I also remember shooting one box at the range the next day.

I knew that I had just under 2K rounds of 9mm stocked up,,,
Now I have an additional 1,200 rounds of range fodder.

Since I shoot mostly .22 LR when I go shooting,,,
I figure I can get 24 range trips with it.

That's about my average ammo usage,,,
200 to 250 rounds of .22 LR,,,
25 to 50 rounds of 9mm.

At the very least this is one more season of 9mm plinking.

I felt like a kid who finds that one hidden under the tree gift,,,
a couple of days after Christmas morning.

So are you going to share the wealth or not OP?:)

So are you going to share the wealth or not OP?

Nope, I be a greedy man. ;)

Actually I'm in a position that I "could" help someone who's completely out of 9mm,,,
I do have a work buddy who got caught unawares in this shortage,,,
He told me he only has two mags of ammo in his house.

I won't support a range trip for him,,,
But I might sell him 50 rounds so he can load his wife's pistol.

It's aluminum cased. Those can't "re-produce"...

But, they do fire in all three of my 9mm pistols,,,
And at this point in time that's all that matters to me.

Still waiting on some 9mm. that I was supposed to get a couple of months ago but still haven't received yet. Not to worry though as I was already pretty well stocked with about 5400 rounds on hand. Since the ranges around here only recently reopened and since none of my family have come into town to visit this year, I haven't had a chance to go shooting all that much. So I guess I will just keep on saving up my ammo for the time being and wait for better times.

I usually go in the opposite direction...gave away my last 200 rounds of 9mm I forgot I had. Got out of the 9mm business a while back and knew a couple people in need. Now I own a 9mm and gotta load for it instead of using up ammo that I already paid for.
But without a doubt, if I didn't just get a 9mm, I'd find another couple hundred rounds I forgot about.

Wow. I never imagined that "Forged" 9mm by Winchester might one day become popular.
By far the only lousy, malfunctioning ammo I've used in my CZ PCR and Sig P6. And I've used various Russian chamberings and brands which--Other than weak .40 (S&W) Tula in a Sig P229--all do quite well.

"Forged" 9mm is just plain weird and unpredictable, very frequently.

Today I was going through some S&B primers I bought from Cabela'sa few years back. Low and behold, I had the foresight to buy 2k of small rifle. I don't reload any small rifle yet.

Or I can sell them for $1 a primer. That would be evil. (I'm not gonna sell them.)

I think I only have maybe 1400 rounds of 9mm on hand. But I scored 2000 bullets when COVID first made everyone shop like idiots. I'd still love to find some forgotten treasure though.

Recently I found a spam can of 8mm Yugo ammo that I'd forgotten about, the next Outdoors Trader trade day I will put it up for sale along with 4 cans of 7.62x54r. Some days it pays to clean up the shop.

A $500 windfall, eh? Does that really happen? Maybe there is hope for me then. I keep telling my wife this; if we were to receive a $200,000 windfall, I'd build new house:)

That $500.00 windfall was truly "out of the blue",,,
It was money from my deceased father's last bank account.

I thought it had all been divvied up by my brother years ago,,,
But it seemed there was one chunk of money he had held back for some reason.

Anyways, that reason became moot,,,
So three siblings each got a surprise of just over $500.00.

I'm very glad that I decided to spend it all on stocking up,,,
There wasn't even a hint of this current shortage at that time.

It does happen, about 18 months ago I got a surprise call that my late aunt left me a little over $880,000. I literally fell out of my chair at work, lol. So we are enjoying our new house and several toys to shoot out my back door, or load in the shop. So, keep your head up, it really can happen when least expected (she passed several years earlier, he somehow forgot to call me)
