Newest Browning Hi Power Don Williams Custom C Series

So I picked this gun up. The build was completed early this year. It was not my build but it pretty much pushes all the right buttons. Heine rear sight, Gold bead front sight, Garthwaite trigger, C&S ring hammer and sear, trigger job, smooth out package, beveled magwell, re-crowned factory barrel, stipple front and back grip straps, factory single sided thumb safety, serrated top of the slide, and finally Mr Williams trigger overtravel and take-up reduction mod. The entire gun was reblued in a matte blue. My pics don't do it justice. Don simply does fantastic work. It came with a set of Navidrex slim micarta grips but swapped them out for a set of Spegels which were on a lesser gun.

I shot these things today. They are a super slick pair. The triggers are very similar. The Williams gun is not a pretty as the Yost but is on par as a shooter.

Its the angle of the pic.The Spegels leave a sliver of frame on the outside edge at the back of the grip.

Yeah I’m talking about the shadow like the grips aren’t flush to the frame laterally. Not that there’s exposed frame behind the grips. Probably just the pic.

Those are both lovely pistols. I usually get in trouble for saying something like "What a pair!" but it applies here.

OBTW did you NRA members notice that the latest American Rifleman magazine has an exploded parts view of the HP, but it is the original design with the internal extractor. No mention that there are later ones with external extractors, like the above pair.

I also noted that the illustration is completely devoid of the magazine disconnect built into the trigger. Where there any versions of the HP which didn't have those?

The only ones which came out of Herstal without the mag disconnect were early prototypes and some guns produced under Nazi occupation. The Germans dropped the part for speed if production and for cost savings.

"What a Pair" is entirely appropriate, Bart... and these two are as pretty a "Pair", as I've seen in a long time. BHP's redone by a master craftsman are the grails of my pistol dreams. Well done, WVsig...wish I had the shekels to indulge my own dreams. All the best, Rod

WV, I have a pair of really solid good BHPs, one that's ceracoated and one that's deep blued. My BHP desires are met, until I see your wonderful collection. Very nice going.

I had a wartime nazi marked FN Hi-Power. About the only similarity between your beautiful pistols and that one was they were all made of steel.

They are out there for not crazy money if you are patient and know what to look for. A buddy of mine picked this up on my recommendation. Paid $820 + shipping and transfer. If you look close you see it has a C&S hammer, night sights and a Barsto Match Barrel. Not cheap but not crazy expensive and a lot better than a clone or a surplus beater.

Yea when you consider the barrel is $240, hammer and sear are $129 and the sight are $100 before cost to install them.

What Heinie sights are those, 1911? His Hi power sights all have a weird looking drop leg on the rear.

Don uses the Novak cut Heinie sights. Yost uses his own.

In terms of form (aesthetics ), I much prefer the looks of a good checkering job. In terms of function, there are many reasons to choose either, for mostly personal reasons.
