Riots, mobs and survival

"Some of us are not good at surrendering."

I'll repeat myself. There is no shame in avoiding unnecessary fights. Edgar Allan Poe: "That man is not truly brave who is afraid either to seem or to be, when it suits him, a coward." -- Marginalia. I read that in high school in the 1960s.

Sometimes an enemy will entice you into a battlefield of his choosing. Not taking the bait is not surrender. It is caution.

Todays business owners have a tough hoe to row.I have a friend that lost everything. And not much one can do. In Minn. alone had 1500 destroyed. After being in The Electroinic Alarm Assoc. I was a member of different associations that provided of protection. Barrier or Hurricane windows for example. And they are Expensive. Not sure if any good would help if they just torch the place when is becoming standard. Cost to repair and restock etc. is almost unacceptable or the funds just not attainable.
I wonder what Insurance companies will do in the future as far as raising premiums for Small Business Owners. Or even if they will insure them?

Has the armed Security Guard business increased? It would seem that will be the way of the future for many business's. Perhaps small business owner's pooling resources for Protection. But I would wonder if liability insurance would prevent it? And of course it would be for some area's a very High Risk job.

Just like the movie Jaws. A shark eating up the Tourist and the Mayor telling them to go into the water. Got to keep up that Image.

I can't speak for anybody else but I'd quit my job before I'd accept an assignment in the middle of a riot.

Armed security around here makes between 16 and 23 dollars an hour and that's not enough for that kind of risk

It would seem that all cities would require Strategic Planning to squash these events before they start. Almost like planning for Warfare. Fast action, dividing the city into sectors. Investment in new weapons, armored vehicles, Paddy wagons, and holding areas. But then again, shot down by the same people responsible for the attacks with the De-funding of Police. They say never under estimate your enemy. Seems many cities have.

The bread and butter for the business I received my LTC training and certification through was training and certifications for private security guards. I know COVID-19 put some extreme hurt on that segment of their firm and I suppose Trunk Monkey's observations on pay vs risk equally apply here in Military City USA. When some restaurants and bars are folding from reduced patronage already whether takeout, dine-in, etc before considering any costs to provide additional layers of protection from additional risks of vandalism and potentially worse I don't doubt the private security firms may be hard up for applicants and contracts. A few months ago a BBQ joint was hit not for cash but for every scrap of meat in inventory when the supply chain was having extra difficulty with that commodity all recorded on security cameras and was a far more punishing blow than if one day's receipts had been made off with.

The problem is that the places with the "problems" have city leaders who side with the rioters. Plans count for little if you have no intention of implementing them.

Avoiding the situation in the first place is rule #1. But if for whatever reason you were to find yourself in the middle of one, unable to turn around or turn back, exactly what is keeping you from playing along for the moment? Throw your fist in the air, honk in approval, call cops bad names. That's pretty much all it takes to get through safely. Your convenience may be infringed upon, but likely not your life. Most of the people that have problems go out of their way to wear their home team colors on their sleeve. Don't wear a MAGA hat or be an auto parts store. Problem solved.
Every time I wear my "Trump 2020" hat I have people come up to me and shake my hand. In a grocery store, one of the butchers walked out from behind the meat case to thank me for supporting Trump. I also have people smile and give me a nod as they walk passed me.

I live in the sticks but travel the I95 corridor to Richmond every day for work. Aside from various exits along the way there is a jersey wall separating the north and southbound lanes for 90% of my drive, so no turning around. I'm not abandoning my vehicle in the middle of the interstate.

Most likely IF I were to run into some kind of riot on the interstate its going to be up around Richmond.

Being that there are frequent accidents that back up traffic for miles its unlikely that I would know what was going on until I was in the thick of it.

I have a plan and it doesn't involve cowtowing and avoiding the area will not be an option.

Everyone who has the unfortunate situation of having to travel to a major city should have a "out of options" plan as well.

I very well may take some vaca time around the 3rd. Thats about the best I can do as far as avoidance, a man's gotta work.

I use the I95/64 toward Richmond and actually carry my sidearm and Cruiser shotgun. Something I have never done before. (Actually have started using alternate routes) Virginia has a Terrorist friendly Gov. that supports them and who recently changed the attacking of a Policeman, Firefighter, EMT's from a felony to a Misdemeanor. That alone should tell you something.
You have a lot of things working against you if you get trapped. First responders are putting themselves in harms way more and more each day beyond the norm. The right to bear ARMs presently in America is greater today than anytime in US History since the 17th century. Many folks would not travel at all without protection. Hence the magnanimous amount of gun sales which seem to be growing each month. And that is just one example. Of course they want to take away the right of Honest Citizens to protect themselves. Take away the cops, take away arms. All part of the plan.

I don't disagree with anything you said. Sad times we're living in.

Be safe brother.
