Should I get a .327 LCRx? *read first post*

Couple weeks ago at the LGS I saw they had a .327 LCRx in the case and it was new with a $450 price tag. That shocked me because the prices on them have usually been about $500+ all year, so to see a gun at a price below where normal market value is something I've never seen before at an LGS.

I have long said that the next .32 revolver I would buy is an .327 LCR or LCRx, so now I'm wondering if I should go ahead and get the LCRx or wait for the LCR's to show up? I'm not too concerned about snagging and right now wouldn't be putting it into duty as a carry gun, I like to "feel out" handguns for a few months and a few hundred rounds first before I start buying holsters, grips, and speedloaders for them and carry them.

BTW, I load for all the .32's, .327 included so ammo is not an issue.

Anyway, the crux is that I have a Marlin XT-22 (stainless and tube fed) that I no longer want. It will be coming with a Simmons .22 Mag (yeah, it's a cheap scope, but it's worked great) mounted and zeroed and a 17 rd Spee-D-Loader. That's about $80 worth of accessories on top of the rifle and I was going to work out a deal where I trade the rifle and get a certain amount off the LCRx. I'd like to get $200 for the rifle as I would gladly pay $250 (and tax) for the LCRx.

Should I go for this? The stainless XT-22's aren't common and are usually $250 brand new, so what amount do you think I can get for the Marlin?

Pretty much as @toivo said. Your expectations are too high for what the shop will give you for the XT-22.

Try to private sale it if you can and offset the cost that way.

As to the LCR, I’m not a fan of 327 but I do like LCRs and I agree that is a good price for that one. I have personally seen a 327 LCR “on sale” for $550.
 
Agree with others that you are expecting too much for trade-in. General rule of thumb is 60%, so I would say $150 at the very best. With the current ammo situation making .22 items in general a tougher sell right now... maybe more like $100.


If it's something you want and the price is reasonable, I would advise to make it happen. I don't see things getting any cheaper or more available anytime soon. That goes for anyone and anything on a "wish list", by the way.

I also agree with everyone else who say you're not going to get all that much for your Marlin, especially if you're thinking about trading it in. Best bet is to try and sell it on consignment or as a private sale. As for the Ruger I would see if the gun shop has layaway so you can get it at that price.

If you want the Ruger, buy it.

Also keep your .22. You, or someone close to you, might need it tomorrow.
 
$150 is too low for the Marlin because I know they'll sell it for $300. When I pick up the other gun later today I'll ask about their consignment fee and such. $200-250 is all I'm asking to let go of a .22 that's got $350 worth of value in the gun, scope, rings, bases, and speed loader.
 
I really like my LCR’s (357&327) The hammer on the LCRX would not be a deal breaker to me
And at $450 .. thats a verygood price ... as for the 22lr .. sell it on Armslist... or keep it...
 
The accessories don't mean much as far as trade-in or sale. Similar to vehicles...

At least not nearly as much as they mean to you as the original purchaser.

Exactly. The scope isn't worth a nickel to them, therefor the rings are worthless too. They also don't care about the speed loader. They are looking at just the value of the rifle.

I'm guessing you've never traded in a gun before. 50% is about what you're going to get. In your case it's rifle value only. Bolt action 22 rifles aren't quick sellers. Especially at $250-$300. You say the rifle is $250 brand new. That places used price at maybe $200. A Simmons scope is $50 or less.

For a trade-in I'd expect them to offer no more than $125.

If that's the case I'll just take the scope and rings off and keep them. I'll take $150 for the base rifle if it lowers the price of the LCRx to $300-ish.
 
If a hammer snagging on a draw from a concealed carry location is of little concern to you then, imo, the LCRX is the better choice of the two. The exposed hammer has no downside and being able to cock it for sa use is a decided plus-again, only if you're not concerned about a snagging issue.

Only other downside to other LCRX vs the LCR , is the inability of not being able to use the smaller compact boot grip ... ..

Thats the main reason I went with the LCR over the LCRX ... .. the low profile of the LCRX is good to go
 
What a cluster this was today.

I went in, the .327 LCRx was still there, I gave it another feel, asked if it was new or used, was told it was new, made the offer, they accepted $150 off the LCR. First issue I had was they wouldn't sell it at $350, they were going to sell it at $450, which meant $10 more in sales tax, which to me is baloney.

Then, before I signed the papers I asked for the box and was told there isn't one, so that sent up a flag because I've never bought a new gun that didn't come with a box. Doing a deeper look the crown looked somewhat rough and the bore looked like there was something in the grooves (lead, preservative, IDK) but it wasn't shiny or a mirror finish. The cylinder didn't have a turn ring on it, but it takes quite a few turns before one develops.

They told me that it was a gun from another FFL in the area who couldn't move it so they did some deal, but like, even if that was the case, why the hell is the other FFL dropping off these new guns without the boxes, manuals, and whatever else they come with?

While it's possible that it was in fact brand new and never previously owned, I decided that I was no longer interested in the gun and put the rifle up for consignment.

This is why I stick to buying my guns online and doing transfers.

The story didn't make sense to me. I can understand another FFL doing a deal with them to move inventory that hasn't sold, but the other FFL they mention is a high end shop (any non-chain FFL that sells Holland & Holland shotguns I consider high end) and I cannot imagine that other shop stocking an LCR style revolver, let alone making some deal where they drop this "new" gun off without the box, the owners manual, and the accessories.
 
I personally would prefer lcrx for the grip alone. That said, it’s not a gun to get overly excited about. It’s a light weight 327 that your probably going to shoot 32 mags through and they are pretty easy to come by. If you want the gun then great, go get it. If your on the fence then put your 22 up for sale and then when it sells you can saunter right over to the shop and see if they still have the ruger.
