OK, how about the LARGEST handgun you ever owned

I've never really compared them but most likely one of my revolvers, either one of the Colt SAA clones, Colt New Service or the Dan Wesson 15-2 depending on which barrel is installed.

In the late 80's I had a 8 3/8" S&W 29 nickel plated. Bought and sold for $300, I believe. Wish I had it now, for the value- not for usefulness.

This is Mongo, my largest handgun. He weighs four and one half pounds. He is chambered in .45 P.I.T.A. A self explanatory acronym. A 45-70 case cut down to 1 1/2". I made Mongo a few years back out of scraps of steel and a barrel that Les gave me.

Obviously a copy of a Rolling block, with a few tweaks, all coil springs being one. I chambered Mongo with a drill bit :what: and screwed up my first attempt. Mongo was supposed to be a .45 Colt. A one size larger bit and a lot more care resulted in a serviceable chamber that the shortened 45-70 case fit in nicely.

My favorite load is a 385 gr 45-70 bullet ahead of all the 4227 that I can stuff in the case, about 18 grains Recoil is mild and I have no idea what the velocity is. Probably not more than 600-700 FPS, but judging by how hard it whacks my steel gong I'm guessing it packs a pretty good wallop.
Mister, you're very talented. I wish I had the skills and equipment to pump out my own pistol from scratch.

I dont own a large bore handgun but the biggest one I ever shot was a BFR .450 Marlin. Very cool experience. It was a hoot whackin 10" steel at 50 yards off hand.

Probably a 30-30 TC Contender with a 14" barrel.
Followed by a Ruger Super Redhawk in 44 mag with a 9 1/2" barrel.
I also had a 629 8 3/8"
All three were scoped for hunting.

Tossup between my M57 and M29, both 6" barrels. Maybe the M57 is heavier because the holes in the barrel and cylinder ain't as big, means more steel.

Top Three...

.45-70 BFR with rare factory 5.5" barrel- sold down river because it was still too ponderous.

Troy 7.5" AR pistol- Pre-2016 election resent to myself (still have it).

Custom .475 Linebaugh Super Blackhawk by the BFR guy before he started doing BFRs (still have it).

Jim Tertin??

Biggest I have ever had.

Had it for years. I still haven't shot the thing yet.

I never had magnumitis, so the really powerful guns beyond .357 have never interested me (nor could I afford to shoot them anyway). I guess the biggest gun other than the Dragoon is my 624 .44 Special. 6 1/2".

My CAI C93 pistol in .223 was a beastly big and heavy (just over 6 lbs. empty) handgun... Don't have it any longer, and honestly don't miss it that much.

Over 40 years ago, I had one of Ruger's semiauto .22LR pistols with a 10" barrel. The biggest one I have now is a Single Six Combo (LR & Mag.) with the 6" (?) barrel.
The biggest larger caliber is a GP-100 in .357 with a 4" barrel. I tried the 6" but it was "nose heavy" and kept trying to make the barrel tip drop all the time. The 4" balances much better in my hands.
I just bought a Mk. IV with the 10” barrel... I was thinking big bore revolvers and completely forgot about that rimfire and it’s 14.5” OAL.

Stay safe.

I would say the biggest handgun I owned was a Ruger Charger Takedown. It was also one of my “Why the heck did I buy this thing?” guns. I sold it.

The biggest handgun I own now is my Ruger Vaquero .45 Colt with a 7 1/2” barrel.

Here it is with my New Vaquero.

View attachment 941162 this tiny guy sports a 10" barrel, that's absurd. Absurdly awesome. Being a single action it is slender but it's the biggest I've got.

Wow, Pachmayer grips with a pistol attached. It should be easy to hold on to though. :D Kidding aside I have a set of those on a SSA clone and it sure makes it easier on the middle finger when shooting it.

My biggest gun used to be a Walker Colt but an individual offered me a very nice sum of money for it and now it's his. I still have a third model Colt dragoon that is the heaviest of my bunch or feels that way to me, beating out my Super Blackhawks
