New revolver for hunting to replace redhawk?

Due to a very strange turn of events, my daughter is now the proud (partial) owner of my beloved ruger redhawk. It was gonna be hers someday anyway, but she wanted it more than her AR15, so here we are. I still get to use it until she's old enough to actually possess it, but this leaves me a dilemma, what to replace it with?

I have been eyeballing a BFR, a bisley SBH, and a SRH. Want another pistol to hunt with, and I still have my beater SBH 5" 44mag, so it's not like I don't have a 44 anymore either. What I am trying to decide is weather to get another 44, or to step up to a 454, 480, or a 500JRH.

Now I always have my eye out for affordable 44 revolvers, so that will never change, but for elk and bears and the occasional deer, what caliber would you go for? And I will be reloading for whatever I get, so ammo isn't really an issue...
 
Were I starting out for a hunting handgun in today's market I would most likely be taking home a stainless Bisley Blackhawk in 480 Ruger.

My primary hunting revolver for many years was a similar gun in .45 Colt, and that would still be in the running. I also have used a .500 S&W, but that is more horsepower than needed. I load it down quite a bit, but then don't need such a huge gun. If Ruger would come out with a $1000 gun chambered for a .50 Special I would take one home immediately. The .480 is the closest thing to it.
 
I have a .454 SRH and it’s not a lot of fun to shoot with full-house loads.

Today I started the 10-day wait on my new Bisley Single Six .32 H&R. If it feels as good under recoil as it does in the hand this morning the Bisley is definitely the way I’ll be going from now on.

Give a Ruger .44 or .480 Bisley a try (or if you can find one, a .41). I think you’ll be hooked, too. :thumbup:

I had a Taurus raging Bull in 454 casull, so I know I like those, but without a scope on it the 480 or 500JRH might be more my style. If I find a SRH in 454 for a good price though it'll probably come home. I just can't make up my mind, and I doubt I'll go for 2 or all 3, even though that's probably the right answer.
 
I'd get another 44 mag.

You said SBH, SRH and BFR. The BFR is easily the best of the group. In whichever cartridge you choose, Magnum Research makes an excellent revolver.
 
I'd probably go with a SBH bisley or BFR in .480 Ruger/475linebaugh respectively. I've shot a couple Xframes, a ragingbull, and a few SRHs and liked them well enough. But I much prefer the feel of the single actions when getting into handcannon territory.
My next revolver will probably be a Ruger bisley.
 
I would stick with a 44 magnum or a 41 magnum it's a caliber you can grow old with load it full house if you like recoil or down load it for fun I have a 454 but just dont shoot it as much my 41 magnum see's more range time now days helps more if you cast your own bullets too
 
Lots to be said for the Super Redhawk if you don't mind the looks and the size/weight - accurate, lots of grips avail, great scope mounting system, and handles recoil very well. I have a 7 1/2" with a 2x-6x Bushnell. Here are some targets -- all rested at 50 yds.

That's a mighty fine group of SRHs you have there Craig C. Are those all 7.5" guns? It appears they are. Is the grey one on the bottom a 480? Seems I heard that coating was 480 only...

All 7.5's. The bottom (or far left) is indeed a .480. Middle one is a .454. All the earlier .454's and .480's had the target gray finish.

I don't think I want an x-frame, I have rifles smaller than those things. Or the long frame BFR either. If I need a gun that powerful I'll step up to a rifle. My personal preference for handgun hunting is to be more nimble than packing a rifle. Kinda why I don't have a contender with a bunch of long barrels.
 
Just playing with screen shot - this is a 4 1/4" M69 with 4x Leupold - pretty handy little package and very shootable.
