Let’s face it, those of us who drive to hunt need a vehicle we can fit all our crap in and also get a deer out of the woods with.

With that in mind, what’s your hunting rig?

-Pics are cool

We’re looking for pics of the car/truck/suv y’all take hunting.

Also, I really do miss my 01 (pre Chrysler) Jeep Cherokee. If I could ever find a Metric Jeep Comanche I’d part with gonads for it

You mention getting deer out of the woods. Are you talking about an on road vehicle or ATV/UTV/dirt bike? I've used ATV's to get deer out of the woods maybe half a dozen times. Most of the time they weren't an option though, for a variety of reasons. My "vehicle" is usually my legs. You don't want a picture of those. ;)

I mean, after you get it out out, you have to bring it home. What vehicle do you put it in?
 
08 jeep Rubicon i bought new. Great for hunting. Absolutely worthless for anything else. Most unreliable P.O.S I've ever owned. Lol. But when you are hunting, having to walk out of the woods is an O.K. thing. Killed a lot of deer while walking out to get a truck or tractor to drag the Jeep out. Lol


Normally the bed of my truck, tho I've brought deer home ways im not proud of.

Worst I've done is stuffing an 8 pointer down in the spare tire hole in an 02 Trans am. Wasnt bad getting him in there and the hatch closed while he was pliable. But he was pretty hard to get back out after rigor mortis.
 
I have a 2009 Jeep wrangler 4 door I bought new. Of course, I upgraded bumpers, wheels/tires/suspension, intake, etc. If you didn't know, Jeep stands for Just Empty Every Pocket. I removed all of the carpet and had the floors rhino-lined. This way, when I transport hogs or deer inside which are leaking everywhere, I can clean it up the next day with a bucket of hot soapy water and a brush, then pull the drain plugs and hose it out. As far as getting the critter out of the thick woods, I have dragged them out with my 4 wheeler with a rope. When I hunt hogs with my friend, we take along a collapsible Israeli combat litter, since they like to run into the swamp to die. Years ago, I had a F150 and a 88 sedan deville Cadillac. I was living in NC but hunting in TN, about 8 hours away. Since the worst thing I had to drive on was a gravel road, I drove the Caddy, for comfort. Whenever I killed a deer, I took it out of the woods in the trunk. I kept some disposable painter's drop cloths in the trunk for this purpose. People made fun of me, but I looked very classy.
 
My brother in law does drive a baja. He has two. They are a pretty versatile vehicle. I wouldn't mind having one. They go better than my Mustangs but barely.. just too stiff and open front, rear, and center differentails. Built for snow in flat land not so much for humps and mountains. He had a Forrester too.. that's the only vehicle ive ever had to pull because it was stuck in the snow.... going DOWNHILL.

Where I live in the blue ridge mountains we have ice, snow, and mountains. Everyone has 4x4. Most have a Ton dualie diesel for some reason. Most have never had a hitch put in the receiver much less a fifth wheel or ball in the bed. So I'm guessing they are all prepared for a big hunt. Lots of deer.

I bet something like that would be popular again in the days of jumbo sized compact trucks.

Honda has the Ridgeline. They are ridiculously high priced though. (Pretty sure its against federal law to mount a gun rack In a Subaru or Honda though. May be a "gun free zone" sticker in the glove box actually. I cant remember) Ford is releasing a maverick (if the name sticks.) I certainly agree though. The Ranger/Colorado are just too big. And the popularity of the old Ranger/S10 seemed to be pretty darn good. I don't really get it.

Unfortunately the el Camino/ Ranchero/Brat had such a negative perception as a redneck ride that I think the class of cars still suffers from it. Unfortunate though. They are handy

The company I work for has an in-house mechanic's shop, with shop labor and parts at actual cost so it makes sense to keep a bomb running rather than buy something newer. It's shabby enough, that my only concern before locking in the hubs and "sending it" on a sketchy road, is the probability of making it to the other side without breaking anything that will strand me. I kind of treat it like a 4 wheeler in this respect. Amazing how much mud/snow/sand/rocks sufficient entry velocity and momentum will overcome when you're not scared of scratching the paint or bending a tie rod or two.

Lots of room for stuff that needs to stay dry in the cab, and the bed holds all manner of firewood, bloody game, chains, straps, machines, tools. I even have stake downs in place to strap down an old cable winch if needed.

I’ve thought about getting a job as a mechanic for this very reason.

That used to be our “hunting rig” in the background - the Toyota with the wheels of the upside-down deer cart sticking up above the sides of the bed. We have a Dodge now. The Chevy with our grandson and his deer in it belongs to his mom (our daughter) - the pretty girl looking back over her shoulder.
 
93 Toyota pickup.

Got in a fight with a fresh of the lot Silverado a few months ago, and I still have some small repairs and adjustments before it's 100% again.
It's also got toyota rot pretty good, so I need to start looking for a 2wd donor truck.
